Hello all,
Welcome to an Over the Border special. This time we have our final videos covering this year's Hunter Valley Steamfest, this being the transfers of the steam trains to Maitland. Both of the steam trains this year are owned by Transport Heritage NSW, who ran the Steamfest Flyer to get the trains from their base in Thirlmere to Maitland via Concord West. At the head of the trains, we had the "Nanny" 3526 on one service and Garratt locomotive 6029 on the other.
On Friday, two trains were run from Thirlmere. First was a diesel transfer and second was both steam consists. At Flemington, the steam consist was split and 6029 travelled down the line to prepare for a parallel run. 3526 then followed and picked up all the passengers from Concord West before meeting with 6029 on the quad-track between Denistone and Pennant Hills. After the parallel run, 3526 travelled down to Hawkesbury River for a quick break, where it was overtaken by 6029. Keeping this formation, the pair would follow the rest of the way to Maitland.
On the return, the transfer was led by 6029 along with the assisting diesels, running ahead of the Steamfest Flyer. After an hour, we began our chase, following 3526 to Cowan where we ended off our video.

Transport Heritage NSW is the mainline accredited operator of heritage trains owned and operated under the NSW Government. Various tours are operated throughout the year of either day trips or short shuttles. This tour was run for the annual Hunter Valley Steamfest, centered at Maitland.
