'71 red 142 bought new with an 1800S trade-in - child on the way and all that. Had it for 12+ years; bought it for $3300 but in '73 prices went North of what I could afford at the time so I never had a Volvo since '83. A great car. I'm glad to see you taking care of that badge.
The 142 has gone from a car you use to see everyday to the car that you can count on one hand the times you might see one in a year. With that said It's been a super fun car to cruise around and take to cars and coffee.
My first car was a '72 142 GT. Dark blue. Unfortunately, it was stripped of most of it's GT parts when I bought it, so it was basically a DL, but I loved it anyway. I miss it.
Those early 70s Volvos we stolid rock solid. Had a 72-142E, a 71-164E and 74 142Gl, all fuel injected absolutely no probs. No vapour lock to worry about or setting a stu pid manual choke. Today I am going to see a teal 72-142E to take another trip down memory row. The example in the clip looks excellent a real tourer, best kept secret.
www.ipdusa.com/ is a good resource when it come to Volvo parts and expertise. Also if you are anywhere near Oregon Cameron at www.swedishrelics.com/ is the guy :)
I once rebuild a 142 to a GT look. Put leather seats in it too. All tinted windows. So dashboard was same as this one, wooden steering wheel, slightly changed rear fender 235/60 rears and 195/55 front. Spoiler in front (1971 grill), 142 GT emblem, a GT emblem on the back from god might know what car, and a B23 ET (turbo) with overdrive Black and super fast (1200kg - 2700 pounds) with I think 160+ hp A real wolf, I outrun a Audi Quattro with acceleration.... Just top speed was only 195, to much wind resistance 😊
Yeah, at some point all the side trim was removed. I actually have mine in the shop right now getting the emblems put back on. Not putting the side chrome strip back on though.
Your dash is different than mine was...the speedo in mine was like an orange line that ran left to right....also do you have points problems in that one?.... Mine will notorious for having that problem and we had to replace them like once every month....looks awesome though man...im super jealous......i had both the 2 door and 4 door.
It has the Pertronix electronic ignition conversion. No more points. The rally gauge cluster was a special order Volvo Competition Service option that you could get along with other special GT options back in the day.
@@NilesProductions oh okay very cool I didn't have the option of being able to do that when I had mine ..... way before the internet and living in a small town in Tennessee you don't really get too many of those cars down here so I had to do what I could to scrape up parts but yeah you got a great car man I love it
The finest year of the finest model, from the (then) finest manufacturer. I've (almost) stopped looking for another one. Might take up unicorn hunting. They're not as scarce. Want to sell?
@@maxwellspeedwell2585 It's crazy how few 142s are left considering that they were made in pretty high numbers back in the day. I'm guessing most were recycled at some point in the 90's - 2000s? Finding one with the added (Volvo Competition Service) GT Parts is almost unheard of these days. Good hunting my friend :)
While they never made a factory 142 GT they did sell factory GT parts through Volvo Competition Services. You could buy badges, engine upgrades, suspension upgrades, gauges, grills, wheels etc for the 140 series back in the day. The parts are exceedingly rare to find these days but if you keep a keen eye out and know what you are looking for you might run across some. These Volvos are awesome in billions of ways and I wish I had owned one .
In my youth I feel like the 140 series Volvos were everywhere. Now you can go months without seeing one.

It’s been a super fun car for sure. Only getting better as I fix little things here and there.

Great shooting with the videocamera, good music too!
Thanks for the kind words :) I need to make an updated video one of these days....
Awesome 142 Gt in Green color
Thanks! It's been a super fun car :)
The best color LOL
My second car was an ‘80 242 GT
But my favourite is this, the 142

Thanks Shane, the 242 GT is a cool car for sure. Glad you enjoyed my video and 142. It has been a fun car to own/drive
I just bought Volvo 144. Planing to restore it.Hope I can get the parts easily.

Excellent!
Many thanks!
Can’t tell from the video but was the side body trim removed. I’m debating doing this when I have the car painted.

I think it looks great with the trim off. Sportier looking. Love your car…post more videos!

I need to get mine going again

I intend on keeping this as a forever car, unless someone wants to trade an equally nice Alfa Romeo GTV for it lol
Have you thought about also getting a 4 door, to keep the 142 GT company,?
I only have a one car garage, so not an option at this point in time lol

I curse myself for letting my ‘71 142 go…for nothing! Left it to rot in the alley back in ‘94
Mines been sitting in the garage for a bit to long. Need to tune it up and get her back on the road.
