The White képi (hat) from the beginning of the french foreign legion. For the fight in Algeria they use kaki cover in their hat for protect them of the sun and with the time the kaki color change on white and with time they keep the white hat for the tradition
The statement at the beginning about french men not allowed in the legion is ridiculous. Of course they are allowed. When a french man join the legion they just write in his file that he is coming from Canada, Switzerland or Belgium, where people speak french, and that's it. Like the rest of the legionnaires the french recruits will be able eventually at the end of their first contract to have a new name, new legit ID card printed by the french state
@@jointbasepodcast More exactly: it is a mistake from the documentary: When joining the Legion, they take your papers, passports etc. and give you a military ID with a french name and a francophone nationality like canada, swiss, belgium etc. After a few years you can either keep that name or take back your old one. So in the FFL there is technically no french.
what kind of journalist can give so wrong information, after only 2 minutes of video ?! Not partial at all : he wants everybody to believe they're just mercenaries. Bullshit ! They're just the most feared unit, and that's justified, but they're regular militaries. Their strength actually comes from their diversity, and their sense of duty. They don't join for money or glory : the salary is quite low, and they stay unknown.
Not more specialized : they have armoured regiments, paratroopers regiment (the best regiment in the french army) ; they participate to special forces ; somehow 58 soldiers have been killed in Barkhane operations ; 10 % are legionaire ; there are others special regiment : marines, marines commandos, paratroopers, mountain commandos and special forces of secret services (13 th dragoons, 1rst choc)
That's awesome. I wasn't aware. Thank you for your feedback and for watching! This was one of my first videos but I plan to go back and make more FFL videos.
The white hat it's called Kepi Blanc and it's the hat of the parade suit and it's given to recruits after the long march at the end of the basic training. By the way I am considering the legion as an option even though I am spanish.

Yes. A French person can join the Foreign Legion. His candidacy is all the more important because it is precisely this Frenchman who will bring his knowledge of the country and the language to the foreign recruits in addition to the courses taught.

That's awesome! I figured it was about tradition. It looks pretty sharp!
They're entitled to the white képi only after passing training and certified

Yeah, you can't count out the paratroopers.
Around 10% of the legion is composed of French born citizen

I was always curious about the Frenchm Foreign Legion
Me too!
I think there is a difference and it's the selection. Only 15% of the recruits are selected at least after 6 months
The Foreign Legion is not part of the regular French army. It has a special status, because it is composed of foreigners.
great video
Thanks, I apperciate it @16psyco

Yeah, I have heard that before. That's what makes legionnaires so special in book!
It doesn't have to be any iscuse to join the legion many have problems or come from poor backgrounds and some do it for a challenge
Yeah, I have done some research after this video. I agree, it seems like a very small percentage join for an escape. @Kari Ylivirta
