When my ex & I were in Javea , Spain 🇪🇸, we went every Saturday night to Bar Aqurel to see the last of " Humble Pie " Our friend Greg Ridley died , his wife& children may still be there, the drum solos WOW ! I like all music & bought ( € 20 ) a Russian Balalaika .I a lefthander, but easy ,only 3 strings 2 tuned the same , friend in Muro is a Clarinet man , & I hope to perform with the local band..
Why these guys got much recognition even Worldwide and on Radio is beyond me.Genius set up funky styles to be blessed and part of the greatest decade of all time never to forget miss it so much oh hail the 80s atmosphere could harp on and explain vibes and feelings like no other time or place in history
I never heard this song back in the 80s when I was just a kid, but as time wares on, damn I miss the days when *this* incredible level of talent was ordinary, and amazing songs like this could just be lost in the shuffle :-(
Aw man, this is one of my favourites! I love the lyrics but am absolutely obsessed with the sound and production of this track. Loving that late 80s production, clean, tight and funky.
30 years on I still get goose bumps. This song changed my life. This melody showed me the way, if you want to have a better day you must listen to the lyrics this gentleman has to say. Do be early don't me late!! Thank you man in a hat, Always eat what's on your plate. Thank you man in a hat. The lyrics just killed me.
I used to buy the Now! That's What I Call Music compilations, back in the 1980s, and this sounds like 1986-1987 distilled into four minutes. The big-but-not-overwhelming CRACK snare. The dum-dah-dum-a-dum FM bass. The horn arrangement. It's perfect.
The only version I can find on iTunes is the album version which is a much more stripped back version. Wish I could find this version. I’ve got the 7” single somewhere.
Same wish here, but I used Airy on my MBP to rip the mp3 from this video. It works well, but it would be nice to have it in my Spotify list also. Such a great song!!
Heard this last year in Doncaster at a bar after 31 yrs while on a ex forces reunion it instantly took me right back to 80's. It still sounds fresh even in 2018 brilliant.
Always loved this song and the jazz infused pop sound of this. Not only that JUST love how Both Harry Bowens and Hillard 'sweet pea' Atkinsons voices compliment each other on this glorious track which seems written just for them to sing
There used to be on Brit tv" An evening with Jules Holland " very good , & the girl singers fabulous! as on "The Dukes of September " the remains of Steely Dan , have most of theirs , some on vinyl some on cassette & cd s !
@@novasmum474 I sure do miss the 70s and 80s. The music today is not even the same. Sometimes I wish I could find a time machine and go back in time. Life was much easier and everyone enjoyed life! Where are you from if you don't mind me asking? I'm from Apeldoorn, Netherlands
We took our daughter to Ronnie Scotts club , she wanted to see The soup dragons 🐉 & this band was there, fantastic, the rail fare cheap & the entrance about £5 for her mum & me and £ 1 for her ! When in The bar Aquarela in Javea Spain we saw free the remains of Humble Pie , fantastic drum solos ,Greg died later .
Just reading about his death here. Damn...that's really sad. :-( This band's music was with me in my early teenage years, listening to them on my Sharp GF-4949 (great memories!). They had a HUGE influence on me as far as my understanding of pop music is concerned.
The air was filled with suspicion She poured us two martinis And tried to guess my mission I pretended to know nothing It's best to use discretion But she turned her floodlight eyes on me And demanded a confession I told her I am a spy in the house of love Gathering clues to be used in the war of the affections I am a spy in the house of love I won't be refused I'm waiting for your heart's defection I saw, yes i did, everything that pleased her I recorded every movement And plotted how to seize her I used a tiny camera I thought I'd japanese her I made a voodoo doll of her And sat around and squeezed her I told her i am a spy in the house of love Gathering clues to be used in the war of the affections Iam a spy in the house of love I won't be refused I'm waiting for your heart's defection I'll read your mail I'll tap your phone I'm on your trail You're never alone One day you'll slip up And leave a lip print on a coffee cup I'm a spy and I just can't help myself

An absolutely underrated classic of the late 80s....love it
It is only underrated by morons. The whole album is magical.
We had an all-time great band right under our noses and I never noticed. One more reason the 80s were awesome.
It's still cool in 2024
Really great track. Great band.
RIP Sweet Pea Atkinson. Was (Not Was) still ONE of the best gigs I've ever been to. They absolutely stormed it!
It was a terrible gig. Terrible band.
One of my favourite songs of the 80's - so powerfull..😍
Rest in Peace Sweet Pea. You had one hell of a voice.
I bought this album on vinyl in '90, it's still the shit 30 years later! Awesome memories, driving to this❤
What I would give for this era of music to return...right down to the great styles and big hair!

Serious good song this one!
Superb!
Still brilliant song to me
懐かしい❤
The air was filled with suspicion
She poured us two martinis
And tried to guess my mission
I pretended to know nothing
It's best to use discretion
But she turned her floodlight eyes on me
And demanded a confession
I told her I am a spy in the house of love
Gathering clues to be used in the war of the affections
I am a spy in the house of love
I won't be refused I'm waiting for your heart's defection
I saw, yes i did, everything that pleased her
I recorded every movement
And plotted how to seize her
I used a tiny camera
I thought I'd japanese her
I made a voodoo doll of her
And sat around and squeezed her
I told her i am a spy in the house of love
Gathering clues to be used in the war of the affections
Iam a spy in the house of love
I won't be refused I'm waiting for your heart's defection
I'll read your mail
I'll tap your phone
I'm on your trail
You're never alone
One day you'll slip up
And leave a lip print on a coffee cup
I'm a spy and I just can't help myself
I am a spy in the house of wax. I'm waiting for your hearts deception. Them lyrics just killed me. 30 years on I still get goose bumps.
Thank you Love this song, now I understand better reading the lyric. Merci.

classic dance music which is not made good so often in today's record market
