That’s a great tip about the sanding blocks. They should really work well for all the shape the bug has. When I prepped my blue 68 bug for paint my son and I sanding for months. I would let each coat of primer dry for week before sanding. Probably was overkill but I wanted to be sure. I lost count how many times I primed it for block sanding. Funny how it looked so much like yours during that process. I used Duplicolor paints on that one. They also worked well. Wish I had more time to watch all of your build episodes. Thanks for sharing!!
Yeah, there were weeks of primer and sanding before I painted. I actually waited a week before laying paint, that's why I re-wiped everything before spraying. But I'm glad you're enjoying the build videos. The nice thing about RUclips is you can watch whenever you have time! Enjoy!
Thanks! I appreciate that a bunch. I will say this: Next time, I think I'm going to follow your lead and learn how to put paint down with a real sprayer tho....
Good tip on light vs dark primer. I’m doing a ‘72 SB which is Enzian blue from the factory. While the color is technical dark, it’s very ‘bright’. I’ve discovered VW used a white primer directly under the blue to make it ‘pop’. FYI, Rustoleum also makes a ‘clean metal’ primer which is white and sandable. Your final result looks great! No doubt due to your great prep…👍👍
Thanks! Honestly, I don't know what your talking about with the 'headliner rail'. But all the things I painted along the roof line are on purpose as they will contrast the cage and the sound deadening

Looks really good. You did a great job on the prep
Thanks! Yeah, this whole ordeal was really the first time I went that in depth on prep! I'm SOOO glad it paid off.

Thabks for the props, and for thr 'clean metal' primer, I'll look I to it when I'm ready to paint the outsider
Lovely job, but why did you not remove the headliner rail above the door before painting?
