  • Quiet a loud blower motor. If your interior AC/ Heat fan (blower motor) is making noise like a card in a bicycle spoke, then you probably just need to clean out the blower motor which is easy and free. Leaves and debris gets in the blower motor and make a clicking noise when the fan hits the leaves. I will also show you how to clean the Evaporator to get cooler AC and get rid of any smells you might have coming from your fan. This video will also show you how to replace a blower motor.

As for the blower motor. I filmed this video first then the blower motor resistor video. I just happened to edit the other video first because with this video I had to retake some audio and video I messed up on.

I just watched your video. My blower was making a nose after I changed the filter. I was able to stick my hand in the fan and I pulled out 2 small leaves. After I did that I turned air on an noise was gone!! Thanks you save me money!! Can't believe that 2 small leaves could make so much noise!!

I'm a single mom who does NOT work on cars, I've just barely been learning to put some small pieces of furniture together. my Ford Explorer Sport has just recently began making that noise and I can't afford to take it to a shop. with this video "in my tool belt" I'm going to take a shot at fixing this issue myself. Chris, THANK YOU! I'm praying that with this video and others you have I can save a lot of money by becoming a do it myself kind of mom.

I do have one question, how can I find out where mine is at? I have a 2001 Ford Explorer Sport. It just began making this noise a couple of weeks ago which is funny because my daughter and I just moved to a home almost a year ago that has an ungodly amount of leaves in the driveway. Lol so I'm pretty sure it just needs cleaned out. I pray that's all it needs

+Luis Payan, I cannot reply to your comment for some reason, so hopefully you see this. I would check your cruise control fuse because that is easy to do, but I would check your vacuum lines going to the cruise control. They might have fallen off or be cracked.

Hi Chris. I just wanted to say thank you for the incredibly helpful DIY videos. A couple years back, I bought an '08 Pontiac G6 with some minor quirks. An AC vent was broken, the passenger-side windshield squirter wasn't working. Also anytime the AC or heater turned on, it made an obnoxious chirping sound. All these things sounded like complicated and expensive things to fix. So I recently started to watch a majority of your vids and I realized that working on cars is a lot easier than it looks. I've replaced the AC vent(it wasn't connected to anything, just pops out simple). And the windshield squirter nozzle was clogged, so I just replaced it with a new OEM nozzle and its working like a champ. Now I'm going to attempt to tackle the chirping sound that my blower motor makes very soon. Now I'm not saying that I'm a hotshot mechanic but Chrisfix, you've made working on cars simple to understand and saved me a lump sum. Thank you!

Awesome! I took my car to the dealership (while under warranty) to fix my blower motor that sounded like a baseball card in bicycle spokes and they couldn't find an issue. After the dealership trip, there was a new squeaking noise coming from under the glove box. I found the blower motor secured with only 2 of the 3 screws! I just watched this and found out it was due to fan wobble. Missing screw replaced, fan tightened, all good! Thanks, Chris! You rock! Definitely subscribed!

Thanks so much for this video. My motor was making noises 2 days ago, but today it ran fine. Now, I know I just need to get in there and clean out some debris. What's even better, my wiper reservoir has a giant crack, so I am going to replace that and have easy access to the motor debris at the same time. You have saved me about $1, 000 over the last 2 years. Maybe more. Love your stuff. From: 2005 ford ranger edge owner.

August 26, 2019. Great videos Chris keep up the good work. I had to do this to a 2013 1500 Chevy Silverado in early spring the motor stopped and I couldn't defrost the windshield anymore. So the next nice day I did the job same as you. The only thing I did different was cleaning the evaporator with water after vacuuming out the drain hole from under the truck first. This insured the drain hole was clear and all was good for the air-conditioner. Installed a new air filter and fan control module, then buttoned her up and she was good to go.

Car in question was a complete rebuild, bought from someone who let it sit and apparently some mice made it their home. I know this because I found 2 dead on the passenger footwell after a while and first time I turned the heater on I heard a click/thunk and **poof** some gray mouse fluff. O_o

When using general-purpose cleaners on evaporator coils, one should be sure that they don't contain chemicals that can damage the copper and/or aluminum coil materials. These would include chlorine and ammonia. Plain detergent and warm water might be best. Obviously, special purpose coil cleaners are also made.

I would recommend spraying WD-40 or Lithium Grease around the bearings, motor, or joint areas before re-installing as well as re-conditioning the rubber parts with Armor All. I always use a wire brush on any rusty bolts and then spray with Lithium Grease or regular grease to keep them from rusting and being hard to remove.

I have to leave a comment and a thumbs up since this video saved me time and few bucks. Passenger side dashboard suddenly vibrates violently with the fan on max. The next day, the foul smell comes out of the ac. After following this video, I was able to pull out the blower motor and turns out a small mouse ended up in the blower compartment causing vibration and when it decomposes caused the foul smell.

Thanks for the video! My blower motor has been making an annoying sound intermittently (goes away for a while if I turn it to high speed for a second), I didn't even consider it might just be old leaves rattling around. If only Ford had used cabin air filters back in 1993... I think they started to in 96 (for the Taurus), so I'm surprised your Ranger doesn't seem to have one.
