I'm a single mom who does NOT work on cars, I've just barely been learning to put some small pieces of furniture together. my Ford Explorer Sport has just recently began making that noise and I can't afford to take it to a shop. with this video "in my tool belt" I'm going to take a shot at fixing this issue myself. Chris, THANK YOU! I'm praying that with this video and others you have I can save a lot of money by becoming a do it myself kind of mom.

I do have one question, how can I find out where mine is at? I have a 2001 Ford Explorer Sport. It just began making this noise a couple of weeks ago which is funny because my daughter and I just moved to a home almost a year ago that has an ungodly amount of leaves in the driveway. Lol so I'm pretty sure it just needs cleaned out. I pray that's all it needs

I just watched your video. My blower was making a nose after I changed the filter. I was able to stick my hand in the fan and I pulled out 2 small leaves. After I did that I turned air on an noise was gone!! Thanks you save me money!! Can't believe that 2 small leaves could make so much noise!!

Awesome! I took my car to the dealership (while under warranty) to fix my blower motor that sounded like a baseball card in bicycle spokes and they couldn't find an issue. After the dealership trip, there was a new squeaking noise coming from under the glove box. I found the blower motor secured with only 2 of the 3 screws! I just watched this and found out it was due to fan wobble. Missing screw replaced, fan tightened, all good! Thanks, Chris! You rock! Definitely subscribed!

Chrisfix is a wizard. He makes it look so easy. I pretty much had to do a magic trick to get my blower motor out and in without removing the reservoir.
I'm kinda surprised I was able to.

I had the same issue with mine! The last reservoir bolt was inaccessible underneath the lower air filter box. Ended up breaking my fan when pulling it out, thankfully crazy glue and zip ties work as a temporary fix!

I will add that I'm a mechanics daughter, most of the time my dad doesn't have the time to answer all of my questions and I go to RUclips for a lot of things to fix my own to help save on money. One of the best videos I've come by, I'm going to attempt this issue today and I already know you have made it easier. Most videos people talk and talk and talk and not get to the point, I fully listened to yours first without doing it step by step as I go. Great job, truly!!

Thanks so much for this video. My motor was making noises 2 days ago, but today it ran fine. Now, I know I just need to get in there and clean out some debris. What's even better, my wiper reservoir has a giant crack, so I am going to replace that and have easy access to the motor debris at the same time. You have saved me about $1, 000 over the last 2 years. Maybe more. Love your stuff. From: 2005 ford ranger edge owner.

Hi Chris. I just wanted to say thank you for the incredibly helpful DIY videos. A couple years back, I bought an '08 Pontiac G6 with some minor quirks. An AC vent was broken, the passenger-side windshield squirter wasn't working. Also anytime the AC or heater turned on, it made an obnoxious chirping sound. All these things sounded like complicated and expensive things to fix. So I recently started to watch a majority of your vids and I realized that working on cars is a lot easier than it looks. I've replaced the AC vent(it wasn't connected to anything, just pops out simple). And the windshield squirter nozzle was clogged, so I just replaced it with a new OEM nozzle and its working like a champ. Now I'm going to attempt to tackle the chirping sound that my blower motor makes very soon. Now I'm not saying that I'm a hotshot mechanic but Chrisfix, you've made working on cars simple to understand and saved me a lump sum. Thank you!

I have to leave a comment and a thumbs up since this video saved me time and few bucks. Passenger side dashboard suddenly vibrates violently with the fan on max. The next day, the foul smell comes out of the ac. After following this video, I was able to pull out the blower motor and turns out a small mouse ended up in the blower compartment causing vibration and when it decomposes caused the foul smell.

August 26, 2019. Great videos Chris keep up the good work. I had to do this to a 2013 1500 Chevy Silverado in early spring the motor stopped and I couldn't defrost the windshield anymore. So the next nice day I did the job same as you. The only thing I did different was cleaning the evaporator with water after vacuuming out the drain hole from under the truck first. This insured the drain hole was clear and all was good for the air-conditioner. Installed a new air filter and fan control module, then buttoned her up and she was good to go.

When using general-purpose cleaners on evaporator coils, one should be sure that they don't contain chemicals that can damage the copper and/or aluminum coil materials. These would include chlorine and ammonia. Plain detergent and warm water might be best. Obviously, special purpose coil cleaners are also made.

I would recommend spraying WD-40 or Lithium Grease around the bearings, motor, or joint areas before re-installing as well as re-conditioning the rubber parts with Armor All. I always use a wire brush on any rusty bolts and then spray with Lithium Grease or regular grease to keep them from rusting and being hard to remove.

Ah, thanks for the info. I was hoping it was just this and not having to take the whole dash apart. The blower on mine's been sounding like a hibernating bear snoring and flatulating. Barely _any_ air was being pushed through the vents. >.<
Car in question was a complete rebuild, bought from someone who let it sit and apparently some mice made it their home. I know this because I found 2 dead on the passenger footwell after a while and first time I turned the heater on I heard a click/thunk and **poof** some gray mouse fluff. O_o

I like the detail you show in your video. It’s definitely helpful for information for me. I’m not able to do the work on my car. I just wish the auto mechanic who is doing the work would be so kind to clean and remove the leaves and debris as you did but no such luck. It stinks when you’re a female unable to do the work yourself such as me and have to rely on someone else who doesn’t really care about your car to do everything properly and keep it clean. You’re lucky. Then again, females who have mechanics for a boyfriend or hubby are so lucky too. Happy holidays.

first of all, thanks! I taught this would be much more complicate than what is really! I live in Argentina, with the converssion, i had to pay almost 100 dollars only for pull out some leaves, and to put some wd-40 on the blower motor to clean the dirt, so yeah it was very simple and I almost bought another blower cause I taught it's was broken. Keep it like that!

I was anticipating having to do this as there was a horrible screeching from the blower and it would occasionally cut out completely. My thoughts were that a bearing failed and the motor would need to be replaced, although an aftermarket one would only be ~$40). It turned out to be an even easier and practically free fix. In my car (2010 Mazda CX-9) the AC reservoir is situated next to the blower motor and the AC drain plug was clogged so the water had overflowed and flooded the blower motor. A little blast of compressed air cleared out the clog and miraculously the motor was completely fine. The car peed like a racehorse for a good 3-4 minutes after I busted the clog out 😂
