Let's see how different the parade was in 1995 vs today: * The ballerina in the music box now has a different outfit and a more conservative hairstyle * In 2011 and 2012, the teddy bear was replaced by Duffy the Disney Bear (part of Disneyland's big Duffy push; he was never as popular here in the States as he is in Japan, unfortunately) * There are less toy soldiers today, and the bass drummer and cymbalist are gone (Magic Kingdom's Christmas parade still has a bass drummer) * The elves were played by real children, instead of adult cast members acting like children in the most cringe-inducing way possible * The second float had Mrs. Claus, and by the looks of it, there was also an operating G-scale train on it (a Santa Fe train, probably an homage to the original sponsor of the Disneyland Railroad; shame that Santa Fe ceased to exist the next year when they merged with Burlington Northern to form BNSF) * The Little Mermaid float is gone, effectively replaced by the Frozen float * The Nutcracker unit is also gone * The Santa's Toyland unit is further back, and is now predominantly Toy Story (the Pinocchio characters lasted until they were evicted by the Green Army Men in 2015) * At some point, Pooh, Tigger, and Eeyore were moved up along with the Winter Wonderland unit, and put on self-propelled sleds; they were shafted in 2016 * Roger Rabbit is gone, much like his presence in Disneyland beyond Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin and special guest appearances * The Winter Wonderland unit, as mentioned before, was moved up behind the Mail Room unit; Mickey and Minnie were later on the ice rink float, before it became a victim of Chapek's IP push and either replaced by or rebuilt into the Frozen float * Aladdin, Jasmine, and Genie are gone (as is what I call the "Geniemobile") * The Gingerbread men look alot cuter * The Ginerbread float now has Goofy and Pluto (Max until 2013); Clarabelle is now dancing with the gingerbread men, and Daisy is gone * Lady Tremaine and the Evil Stepsisters (I call them the "Kardashians of Disney") are now at the very front of the Candlelight Christmas Ball playing with guests, the princesses and princes (now including Tiana and Naveen) are on the float itself (Snow White and her canonically-nameless prince are still streetside), which means Lumiere is gone, and with the Little Mermaid float gone, Ariel and Eric are now where Belle and Beast used to be * The horse-drawn cart with Mickey and Minnie is gone (as are any live animals; I think it was Pressler's fault, the cheap bastard); they replaced Chip and Dale on the ice rink float, and all four are now on the mail room float * The interactive carollers are gone, Donald is on the mail room float now, the whole Victorian-themed float is gone, and so is Scrooge McDuck; Goofy, as mentioned before, was moved to the gingerbread house float, now in the guise of a chef instead of Jacob Marley * The reindeers no longer have their tongues sticking out, and they aren't holding anything anymore * Just about the only thing that hasn't really changed is the Santa Claus float * And finally, the ancillary characters (the White Rabbit, the Seven Dwarves, and Rafiki) no longer bring up the rear of the parade; instead it's just two elves
Kinda funny when you think about it, this was the last year Disneyland had a good budget ( since it was the 40th Anniversary) not to long after Pressler would begin his dirty ways.
I wish they'd bring back the "Truly Scrumptious" style music box dancer on the opening float - a much nicer and more interesting routine than having a ballerina IMO.
what year did Bill Rogers take over as the announcer for this parade? (I'm surprised it wasn't always him since it started after he'd already been doing park announcements
BNSF1995 One of the Stage Managers did confirm that Child Labor Laws are a lot more strict in California is the reason there aren’t any child performers anymore.

You can also tell that they recycled most of the former Very Merry Christmas Parade floats and characters.
The Ice Rink Float at one time had Belle and the Beast-a reference to Beauty and the Beast:The Enchanted Christmas.

@@WDI2008 You Are correct, the Mrs. Claus float was the Snow White Unit, and the Candlelight Ball was taken from the Dance of the Hours Unit.
@@scottvasquez1401 and all the Book floats are recycled from "The World According to Goofy" parade.
I wish I could've seen this parade in the 90's too!
They had "A Christmas Carol" float? They should bring that back, I really loved that with Scrooge Mcduck. That was such a classic
They have a great time at dinesyland for Christmas back then at the 90s
So many memories of this first year! Oh, how it has morphed downward since :(
Saw a glimpse of myself at 7:35 - "skinny" baker

Roger Rabbit I love that part of the parade. Bring him back
ROGER RIBBIT I LIKE THAT PART OFF THE PARADE WILL YOU BRING HIM BACK PLACE
there were kids in the parade back then? wonder how they got kids to do this without them missing school?
They had children performing in the parade back then.
Probably had to change that due to child labor laws.
