  • UMass face-off specialist Caleb Hammett, better known on social media as "Drip King," had a potential game-winning goal wiped off the board after an unexpected stick check called by Brown head coach Mike Daly. Even though Hammett's stick passed the check, this breakdown explains why his goal was discounted.

      Nonsense. Dead ball foul. Goal should have stayed on the board. The penalty was after the goal and the attempted adjustment on the head. Even that was lam because it is a kinda unwritten gentlemen’s rule. The stick is checked at the beginning of the game and if changing sticks it’s a good move having the official check it prior to taking a face off.

    IMO calling for the stick check with 8 minutes to go on the FOGO is a bush call. Having said that, the penalty is correctly assessed. You can't adjust the stick after the ref asks for the stick to check it. It is clear in the rules.

    My question is whether he yanked on the head after the refs asked for the stick due to the stick check request or not. If they asked for the stick and then he yanked on it, then it's a good call. If it was because he was messing with the head before the stick check was asked for, that is really tough. FOGOs fix the head before a faceoff all the time for obvious reasons.

    • @NoToBigBro

      The rule (4.11) itself is clear.... "n. When a player who scored a goal adjusts the crosse after an official asks to inspect it, provided play has not restarted since the goal was scored." and "o. When a player pulls the strings on the crosse after scoring a goal and before the official has requested that player’s crosse for inspection." If he adjusted the plastic and he was finished with that before it was requested for inspection, he's allowed to do that. Pulling on the strings is another thing entirely.

    • @JamesRWeise
      @JamesRWeise 2 месяца назад +1

      @@sbennett372 Caleb was making the "I stretched the sidewalls out" motion. So, I think the refs called him for pulling the strings to adjust the depth of the pocket when Caleb tried to say that he was just stretching the plastic out to get ready for the next faceoff. If that continues to be a rule that is called that way, it seems like an easy way to get a one minute non-releasable penalty and a FOGO goal wiped out. A coach just needs to see the FOGO stretch his head out and then call for a stick check. Even if it's legal it's a penalty and a wiped out goal...

      Disagree there. If he was able to go straight down, he lands outside the goal mouth. This has always been the rule. If the player who scored the goal is called for a stick check immediately following the goal and the stick is found to be illegal, the goal is taken away. It's definitely debatable whether he knew the stick was being asked for or not, but assuming he was pulling on it after the stick check was called for, this would be the correct procedure.

      n. When a player who scored a goal adjusts the crosse after an official asks to inspect it, provided play has not restarted since the goal was scored.
      o. When a player pulls the strings on the crosse after scoring a goal and before the official has requested that player’s crosse for inspection.

    • @taylorvance9893
      @taylorvance9893 2 месяца назад

      It depends on how he was fixing it. There is a timing issue. If you only adjust the plastic, then you can do that before the stick is asked for. Would seem to me that touching the head of the stick before a stick check is called should be fine, but after should be illegal. If he's adjusting the head like he does before every face off, and no check has been called for, then everything is on the up and up. Otherwise, there should be no adjusting of the stick at any time by any player, regardless of position, because a check could possibly be called.

    Couldn't help but notice the snide remarks about John Tillman calling a stick check against Princeton's FOGO. Maryland had been dominating face offs when Princeton went to a backup FOGO. It was his first time in the game so the theory of his net sagging due to abuse beforehand isn't true. The guy got the faceoff and bolted through the entire Maryland defense with his stick getting hit several times. He went straight to the goal without passing and scored. The Maryland defensemen told Tillman that as hard as his stick was hit it should have come loose. The stick was illegal off the bench and Princeton had to know it. They are not stupid!
    The other incident known as Glove gate occurred when Tillman asked the ref during the Ohio State game, why is the other team allowed to wear different color gloves and we have to have matching gloves? It's against the rules so they called a penalty. One reason is when an opposing player grabs a jersey, and the gloves are the same color as the jersey it's hard to tell if it was an actual hold. The other reason is during a faceoff if a FOGO is wearing white gloves it's hard to see a false start because the ball is the same color! The insinuation that Tillman somehow cheated or was unethical is ridiculous and born out of Jealousy. Lacrosse Net should be embarrassed in not getting Maryland's side of the story before besmirching a great coach's reputation!

Plus that’s a string king mark 2f one or two pulls b that baby goes right back to legal. You faceoff haters just stop playing and watching cause clearly you know nothing. While it also gives kids who arnt fast very skilled or whatever a chance to be good n play n go to college for just as another aspect of why should always keep faceoffs.
