Great conversations in the year-in-review. @the9.9newsstand thank you for sharing my ebay purchased of a triple signed ASM 311 and submission to CGC/JSA grading and authentication for awareness. We have to be careful when buying raw books that have been autographed with no cert of auth. Even though I am not happy with it not being authentic, but happy JSA caught it and I was able to recover my funds that I had invested in the book. Looking forward to another discussion at the end of the year, curious to see if we will have a new grading company entering the market soon to take on CGC.

Thank you my friend!! Was definitely a positive outcome to an unfortunate circumstance with that signed book… But thanks to you, the community now has a warning and an example!
Definitely definitely looking forward to the next discussion :)
Thank you again for taking the time my man!

If you offered a CBCS option I would 100% take that option....better slabs, I like the new label....I primarily grade for my own PC so selling is not a factor...but even if it was, it's the community that forces the value variance, not the product itself. The problem is the community does not want to change due to being so heavily overleveraged on CGC. The community can collectively change the norm and hold CGC accountable and make a shift to another grader...but they don't and won't. We only have ourselves to blame and CGC will continue to take advantage of this mindset. Proceed to throw your stones at me! - LOL!

Well...I don't know...I used to send books to CBCS. I encountered problems and decided to stop sending. Time is very valuable and they wasted lots of my time with no compensation. I said good-bye once and for all. But I did give them a chance.

@@comicdoctor You've publicly talked about your many problems with CGC since. Maybe time to give CBCS another chance?

If I was buying a 9.9 anything, I would trust a 9.9 CGCS to be the more honest grade over a CGC 9.9 2024. If I was buying for my PC, I know where I would spend my money.

@slickjolly but CGC generally makes good....and they actually respond to my inquiries. Being left in the lurch with phone call/ emails being unanswered is unacceptable.

You don’t need AI grading - you need to pay people a decent wage, train them properly & begin actually grading w/o knowing who’s books you’re grading. It all begins with throwing corp shill Nelson off the cliff.

Some of my collection goes up for sale, and at the time of this reply CGC is the one to go with. However, some of mine is for my PC as well, and I think that maybe the better slab would be the wiser choice. Back in the day, I didn't buy newsstand copies with any regularity because they weren't as valuable. Same with second printings as the original printing always held more value. Now, the search for rare and ultra rare comics is the thing. People want the newsstand (I still prefer the little drawing to the UPC code, I mean c'mon!). and the second choice cover artist. With that said, I have had a curious thought in my head for a bit. What happens when CBCS goes under and those holding a CBCS Slabbed grail have the rarest of rare? Is a Grail with a now defunct label in a superior slab now worth more than the many CGC labeled books at the same grade? It seems everyone seeking value is seeking CGC slabs, soon most of the grails will be in them, and since slabbed books are more desirable to most, the rarest of those slabbed books will be CBCS in a superior slab! This doesn't work if they have crap slabs or were untrustworthy with their grades. They have great slabs and are more trustworthy than the current market champ. For example, do you now trust a CGC 9.9 to be equal to, lesser than or greater than an CBCS 9.9 of the same book? What will the market say in five years? If I was in the market for a Giant sized X-Men 9.9 and I wanted to ensure I was getting the best BOOK (Market value aside) available to me, if there was a CBCS 9.9 out there at the same time would my eye not wander to the CGCS? Would anyone choose the CGC book if resale value was not an issue? which book has the more trustworthy grade? CGC may be shooting themselves in the foot with the 9.9 influx. Not short term mind you, but once the majority of collectors realize they have re-invented the grading system to suit their bottom line instead of offering what they were founded on, a fair and consistent grading system that gave piece of mind to the buyer. They no longer do that, so....

I’m picking up what you’re putting down and I appreciate you taking the time to write this message. One thing that I do want to say though is that there have been inconsistencies with CBCS’ grading as well. This idea that CBCS is the more strict or more accurate grader is simply not true. Both companies have inconsistencies. Both companies make mistakes.
Most recently, there was an incident where a community member submitted his CBCS 9.9 (yes 9.9) to be encapsulated in the new case only to be informed by CBCS that they can no longer honor that grade because there was a mistake made when originally grading the book. And they demoted the book.
CBCS does, with no question, have the superior encapsulation though.

It is a personal choice....you do what works for you... 😀 I would never throw shade on someone for using a grading company other than CGC - if CBCS rocks your boat, then I really am happy for you! It just didn't work for me. I really wish it did...but it didn't. I have ideas how CBCS could make some headway, but they would never listen to little ol' me!

@@The9.9Newsstand You are absolutely correct, and I believe the incident you're referring to was a Spidey 2099? However I may ad that both companies would have the inconsistency errors equally as long as we rely on pesky humans to do the grading. This is not the same as changing the mandate to release more 9.9's. which changes the playing field. When a certain grade is easier to achieve one place than the other, it really shifts the value, or should, as it does in cards with PSA and Beckett. With the go ahead to start releasing 9.9's sometime in May or June does that not indicate that the standards have shifted at CGC? If it's easier to get a 9.9 at CGC, which is clearly the case right now, as a customer I would sent my books to CGC for grading. As a buyer though, one looking for the best book, perhaps you shift to the other guy, and when one top dawg goes CBCS, slowly so follows another, then another. I'm sure you looked at that GSXM and had your doubts on it's credibility as a 9.9. It's a slippery slope they are on right now, saving face from the scandal and I am curious to see if perhaps they are overcorrecting. Time will tell.

@@comicdoctor It's just fun to watch the struggle for market share. It seems kinda like CBCS is just sitting back and watching CGC run their soapbox down a mountain. Reminds me of a time I was skiing and at the bottom of a run at full stop. It was spring and some grass and gravel was showing down near the clubhouse. Someone I did not know whizzed right past me over the grass and gravel, his skis clacking and banging in protest, and as if he knew we wanted an explanation "No problem.......Rentals!!" was yelled out... :)
