All the backup singers were famous people in their own way. Jean-Paul Wall, Vicki Benckert, Ankie Bagger, Jerry Williams and Tommy Ekman. Biggest was Jerry Williams, he was of the old school rockers, active since 1963 and legendary in Sweden.
As an Irish fan of Eurovision, This is one of my Fav Songs of all the Eurovision song contests ever. Also brilliant backing singers sometimes they can be too strong but the backing singers here were Brilliant and a big shout out to the male singer in the Middle he gave it socks.
The one in the middle is Jerry Williams - he always looked like that and he has quite a few good songs. Search for "Jerry Williams - Did I tell you" or "Dream on" and you'll understand.

I get goosebumps every time I hear this. His voice brilliant, the choir is engaged in the performance and ad-libbing descant vocals. The orchestra is superb. It is pure Eurovision magic- the way it once was.

Tommy Nilsson has one of the best voices I have ever heard but I can't believe he isn't well known outside of Sweden And I remember being told that he came 4th ...
Tommy started as a rock singer and was then discovered by a French producer and had some success in France as a solo singer. His second solo album was recorded in LA with some top musicians. The band Toto wanted him as their lead singer but unfortunately it never happened. So he could have been internationally famous, he sure had the voice for it. And his voice is still amazing today 😍

I think some of them weren't really used to "only" being backing singers, especially Tommy Ekman from the synth/disco pop trio Style (the blond guy furthest to the left) and soul rocker Jerry Williams (the relatively old man in the middle) were some of the biggest pop/rock acts in Sweden throughout the 80s, in Jerry Williams' case all the way since the early 60s. Vicki Benckert, furthest to the right, was probably the most experienced as backing vocalist, for example she was part of Roxette's touring band and also sang additional vocals on some of their studio albums.
I'm absolutely sure they had all rehearsed. They are not an ESC choir but hand-picked artists brought to the finale from the competing country. They are experienced artists that had worked with Tommy Nilsson before when he did backing vocals for them. For this occasion they wanted to repay him by backing him up.
