love the video - I’ve been contemplating moving to blender as well for projects like these, the software has come so far these past few years. I still can’t believe that maya doesn’t ship with a real-time render engine
All the break of dawn scenes, like when they rest on the hood of the car. did you use matte painting for that? The environments seemed pretty real at rhe same time. Way to go!!
Same exact experience for me. I'm certainly not doing anything as advanced as this but I only ever did Maya before and I too was blown away by Blender when I started 3 weeks ago. I'm a total fan of most of it now.
8:08 - The icing in the cake. This totally sold it. Great video! Could you do a specific 8 min video about your "post" process in Nuke, please? It was described in seconds, but I'm sure most of the views would like that extended as well. Awesome lighting, btw.
@@JoshToonen heck ya was gonna ask this haha love the video by the way! what are the odds of you working with blender as a tool now? Also, would love to see how it is added to the footage and the matching process! Thank you, great work!
I've been putting off learning blender for a long time. As a MASSIVE TLoU fan... I think I know what project to do as I begin my blender journey. This was a great video! Keep up the good work!
Damn. Really amazing ! I'm thinking about starting with blender, but, uh, since I don't use twitter, is there some other way to get the clicker's model? Thanks again and amazing work !! (Sorry if this is outdated)
This is great, I like this type of content a lot! Your video gave me a couple of ideas I can use on my current project too. I'm looking forward to seeing more, it's always fun to see how people go about creating their films, especially when they focus on the whole process and not just one aspect of it.
So much hyped about these behind of the scenes series! The result is just impressive and It makes me want to start a CGI career with Blender right now. I want moooore! Do you plan to do a video about integrating this clicker in the movie? It would be very interesting.
Yup! Obviously I come from a 3D/VFX background and I’ve done this before in other programs. The whole point of this was to try and pick up the workflow in Blender as well
I started using Blender around the time you made this video, and I have not looked back. And just recently I started using Substance Painter because, you're right; texture painting is where Blender is really lacking. Hopefully they'll improve it, but Substance is SO GOOD.
@@JoshToonen I think the retopology would be great, but the dos and donts of modelling in blender would be a great overview, also how you've textured this character in substance painter would be really helpful!
Just seen this video. Awesome result BTW. I been using Blender for a couple of years now. They really have done an amazing job making it better all around in the last two years. I think Blender is starting to catch professional companies attention. They still need to fix a couple of key things (cloth,caustics,fluid/smoke) But the program does almost everything you would need. Some are really great ,some are just okay. But when it's free you can't beat it. I would say at this point. It's just as good as the big paid programs. And one major film was made using strictly Blender. That was the film "Next Gen".
I havent really used maya and 3dsmax before but if blender can make the software more stable and if it can handle larger scenes in the future, it seems to me that they will change the whole industry
my god, I spend whole day to find this 3d model, but I can't. So I decided to rip it from game files, it was the hardest thing i ever do in my life but I got it. If anyone want to find this model in internet you need to know...... it is impossible.
This is awesome!! Glad I found your channel, I'd love to see more VFX tutorials in the future. Looks like you do a lot of compositing in Nuke so it'd be neat to hear about your workflow more in depth.
the beauty about 3D (and especially blender) is that all of the info is on the internet and usually free. plus (I work in recruiting for a game studio so I would know) people in the industry really don't care about where you learned it. a portfolio is much much more important than any formal education. with this in mind I'd suggest you just go download blender and watch the donut series by BlenderGuru here on youtube! maybe join some 3D group on facebook for casual advice while you're at it :)
If you’re looking for colleges, you want to look at 3D animation courses, but there are lots of different jobs in VFX that have their own expertise. I’d Google around to find them, and just get started learning on RUclips with Maya or Blender tutorials! I’m completely self taught through YT

Totally, it has to be the standard! It speeds up your workflow so much.
didn't they sorta try with stingray?
What sort of behind the scenes/breakdown do you want to see next? Thanks for watching!

If you are comfortable with sharing the project file that would be great because I’m trying to practice my compositing.
Did they hire you for the new hbo film 😩 tell me they did 💖
could you make full tutorial for this one plsss
i am begging you man plssss just for this one
You could have done the compositing in Blender.
