Why the Korean military can't train malfunction drills properly

- Most service members in the ROK military serve in units that require you to turn in every single casing produced during a live-fire training exercise. The cadre subsequently checks to see if the number of brass matches the number of ammunition fired.
Consequently, most units use what's called a 'brass catcher', something that's seldom used in other parts of the world. The 'brass catcher' is attached to the ejection port so that it can conveniently collect the produced casings when the weapon is fired. But here's the catch: the two most common assault rifles in the Korean military are the K1A and the K2 - both of which have charging handles by the ejection port; similar to an AK.
This creates an obvious problem. If the 'brass catcher' is attached to your weapon, you're not going to be able to run malfunction drills (at least not properly anyway).
This video is aimed to serve as a refresher for those currently active in the military. God speed with your 'brass catchers'...

@@maxkim7937 "Shoot your problems away" can be taken in a number of ways, but that's very descriptive. Shooting is a great way for me to relieve stress. My minds focus changes away from whatever problems it's chewing on. For distance shooting especially (just you and the gun), you are aware of everything from your breathing and heart beat to the changes of the wind. Your first experience will not be quite so meditative, but I highly recommend you try if you get the chance. And of course sometimes it's fun to just "make big boom".

Bloody hell, I remember having to account for issued ammunition while deployed in NI, I thought the British Army was bad for this. Accounting for every spent casing at the range? The Q bloke must curse his life...

@@clothar23 not quite. In Northern Ireland we were issued a specific ammount of ammunition, each round of which had to be accounted for according to serial number. This was to be able to generate as clear a picture as possible in the event of contact for the inevitable police enquiry that would follow. Bear in mind, a shooting engagement in NI would rarely involve a prolonged firefight. People who don't understand the conflict but romanticise the Provos sing that limerick about the Armalite, which invokes the idea of running street battles. The reality is that that was the '60s and '70s, before they had much of a game plan. They soon realised that engaging infantry in pitched battles on the streets of Derry or Belfast was an expensive way to lose both the political as well as tactical war, so they played to their strengths. If they weren't using an IED, they would plan an attack around firing as few as a single round. Their absolute favorite firearm was not the Armalite but the Barrett, a weapon that if used correctly offered little to no possible response unless either the team or the overwatch had eyes-on... which almost never happened. They would plan the ambush and work the recce around firing one round, and then execute a well-planned extraction. So we were not waiting for a protracted firefight, because the enemy wouldn't oblige. The last multi weapon contact in NI was in 1991, it was initiated while the multiple was waiting for helicopter extraction, and it was conducted at maximum effective range. The distances were such that the exact firing point was not identified during the contact, although according to int, the aggressive responding fire from the engaged multiple was an unexpected shock for the attacking ASU; they possibly did not realise that they had not been fully compromised, and the boys might have gotten some shots pretty close. Whole point of attacking at maximum range is to minimise effective response. Legend has it that the Provos were somewhat reluctant in their dealings with that regiment thereafter, although there's no way for me to confirm that. In any case, a combined-weapon contact was an extremely rare event. What we expected, if we were engaged within small arms ranges, was a contact lasting a matter of seconds. We might, if lucky, get a target that popped out and then completely disappeared; they would not give us a second chance; bear in mind, also, that a gunman now fleeing the scene (having only just fired his weapon) was technically no longer considered a threat, and (technically) was no longer considered a viable target. This was of course very iffy. I understand there have been instances where guys have argued that they were unsure the gunman had truly disengaged, or whether he was simply changing positions. The point is, any contact would have been subjected to intense external scrutiny and every effort was made to reduce the chances of questionmarks that could be exploited by an enemy who were the absolute grandmasters in fighting a political war.
Swiss army here, i fondly remember the many mad minutes we got to do if our instructors were too lazy to return ammo after shooting drills. The three round burst on the Stgw90 is a joy.

@@Jarvan_IV 네 영상에서 항상 총구전방 잘하고 계시죠. 저 현역때 제 총이 3점사하면 무조건 탄이 걸리는 총이었는데, 기능고장 땜에 탄피받이 지퍼 여는 경우가 많았는데 총구전방 해도 지면과 수직 상태 유지 안하면 옆에서 통제하는 간부가 하도 총구전방하면서 빵탄 신나게 두들겨 대던 기억이 생각나서요 헣ㅎㅎ

even tho Im not in the Korean military this is still a good drill to practice for any shooter
I went shooting a few years ago with my buddy and 2 of his friends who were ROK reservists that were here for school. They loved doing the drills we showed them and being able to shoot freely and mix things up. They love watching these kind of videos and one said its hard to practice stuff like this when they go back home due to Korea having 0 gun culture and forbidding ownership which really sucks.

@@raebeka763 저는 경험상 대부분 탄창 노후. 스프링 탄성 부족으로 탄걸림 계속 생겼습니다. 부대마다 다르지만 탄피회수망이 제일 문제긴 하죠. 플라스틱으로 군용되어 있는 회수망이 진짜 쓰레기, 제작반에서 철로 만든기 오히려 잘됨. 회수망없이 대회준비할때도 걸리긴하데요. 탄창 걸릴때마다 애꿎은 탄약반한테 지랄했는데 미안하네요. 예산은 안주고 후방부대는 은색으로 빛나는 총이나 쓰고 있고 미친.
앞에 마개씌우고 공포탄 사격 100발 땡기는데 탄피받이에 가스차니까 노리쇠 후퇴전진이 안되더군요 ㅋㅋ
일반인에게보다도 국군장병을 위한 컨텐츠를 위한 제작이라...이게 얼마나 유익한 걸까요..후에 3년,4년이 지나서도 입대를 하시는 분들께도 도움이 될 영상이라고 자부합니다.

What do they do it for ? Too recycle the brass ? Leave no evidence ?
@@jillvalentinefan77 Both Korea and Japan have very heavy gun control. I assume it is an effort to avoid the possibility of ammunition, or casings which can be reloaded, from being stolen and being used for nefarious purposes. If you issue 100 rounds, and receive all 100 cases back, you know without a doubt that all ammunition was fired and none was stolen. If you issue 100 and receive 99, you can't be certain if the round was fired or stolen even if you start counting holes in targets.
Well one less person to have to pay to clean it up for you, just because Americans are too lazy to do so

I was a US Army soldier stationed in South Korea when we visited what I think was Jinhae. This was in 2003. It was a meet and greet with our ROK Naval colleagues. I remember passing the ROK Naval Academy and their replica Turtle Boat (pretty cool stuff). It was about 40 degrees outside and raining. I remember looking out the bus window and saw this huge Korean guy on a boat pier. He was wearing shorts, and a black T shirt that said UDT/SEAL and a cover. It was freezing outside but he didn't flinch. There were what I presume to be other ROK trainees in BDUs and covers working on a zodiac. It was almost comedic. It was like the Korean government looked for the biggest, most muscular Korean dude they could find, put a UDT/SEAL shirt on him, then send him off to Jinhae.
Respect to my ROK military colleagues. Stay safe!

@@juzloopz24 purpose, direction, and motivation. NCO's in charge of them aren't doing what they need to. If they feel a sense of belonging they'll be the most disciplined soldiers you could ask for.
Not true at all! Katusa are hard working, even better than some or most ordinary American soldiers. That’s actually the first time some has ever said that. Could be for some, but in my experience they have always been hard working, smart and humble individuals.
@@gus3051 Everyone that says that "they're all lazy" is usually a subpar or neglectful NCO. They'll say the same thing about any soldier that comes to them that isn't automatically a super soldier. American, Korean, or anywhere else.

탄피받이 자체를 금속으로 만들어야되요.. 플라스틱이라서 맨날 깨지고
갈라지고 그것도 모르고 장병들 쏘다가 잼나고 ... 부대에서는 대충 테이핑 하고... 또 걸리고 총기 상하고.. 악순환임

댓보니까 교육방식이 점점 바뀌어가는듯해서 기쁩니다. 저는 18년 입대자였는데, 신교대에서는 발을 들면 처치해줬는데 자대에서는 발 드니까 통제하던 행보관님이 "어쩌라고~~ 전쟁때 총 걸려도 도와주길 기다릴꺼야?? 니가 해"이래서 머슥하게 제가 처치했네요. 그 뒤로는 기능고장나면 외치기만하고 처치도 제가 했습니다. 다른 부대도 이랬는지는 모르지만 다 이렇게 바뀌었으면 좋겠네요.

25년전 우리부대 탄피받이 없어서 양파망으로 잠자리채 만들어서 탄피배출구 옆에대고 부사수가 탄피받음. 그래서 사격할때 사수보다 부사수가 더 긴장함. 양파망으로 탄피도 받고 잠자리도 잡고

K3 사격하는데 탄피받이 없다고 부사수가 옆에서 더블백 들고 탄피 나오는곳에다 대고있었음ㅋㅋㅋㅋ

Experienced this while training with the ROKMC. It seems they have so many of what we call "training-isms" that it detracts from the value of the training. I hope someone who makes decisions for them can change things so the training has better value for them.
Army just calls this Slap Rack Re-asses, or just Immediate action. When you fire blanks, your weapon jams on purpose so you get familiar with it.

탄피받이 2종류 사용했는데 구형은 플라스틱으로 몰드되어 뺴내려면 꽤 힘들구요, 반면 신형은 스트랩으로 묶는 건데 단점은 총을 들고 뛰면 탄피가 중간에 빠져나갑니다. ,. 탄피받이 끼고 노리쇠 후퇴 시키려면 좀 긴 타이스트랩을 걸고 끝을 뒤로 빼면 탄피 받이가 있어도 노리쇠 잡아 당길수 있씁니다.
저희때는 제대로 된 탄피 받이도 없었던거 같아요
죄송하지만 플라스틱 몰딩으로 되어있는것이 신형이고 스트랩으로 고정하는것이 구형입니다.
@@user-kv6sf9cz7j 플라스틱은 10년전에.kctc애서 직접썼고 두개 스트랩으로 방아쇠울에도 고정하는건 2019년에 kctc에서 직접사용했는데요. 그외에 다른 모델이 있는지는 모릅니다

레일에 대해 궁금해하시는 분들을 위한 설명
해당 레일은 MITS Precision에서 만든 ADVK-2 2세대 레일입니다. 과거 동인광학 레일과 양수리 레일과 달리 가늠쇠울까지 길이가 연장된 레일입니다. 프리 플로팅 구조로 되어있어 명중률의 소폭 상승을 기대할 수 있고 측면과 아랫면은 MLOK이 적용되어 있습니다.
조금 과장되게 표현하면 MK18 MOD1에 적용되었던 다니엘 디펜스의 레일시스템을 K2에 적용하면 이런게 나올거 같다는 느낌이 들 정도로 단단한 체결구조를 보여줍니다.
ADVK-2레일은 1세대 제품을 씰스토어에서 판매했었는데 현재는 단종되었고 영상에서 나오는 2세대 제품이 테스트 중이라고 합니다. 1세대 제품의 몇가지 단점들을 개량하고 파지감을 향상시켰다고 하네요.
개인적으로 1세대 제품을 사용하고 있고 만족중인데 2세대 제품은 얼마나 더 멋지게 나올지 기대중입니다.
