    I had a wooden one that had Egyptian symbols on it when I was a kid. Then later when I went to college I searched and found the old one but couldn't find the planchette so my Dad and I made one. We put little legs on it and added thick felt to enable it to easily slide and stained it just like you did. I haven't seen those things in close to 30 years, but I think I'll go out into the old barn and see if I can locate them.

      Growing up we did it with slips of paper with letters and a wine glass. I would love to see your Egyptian themed one, I bet it looks awesome. Thanks for watching Whispers :)

    LOL - I can smell the xylene through the computer screen - or maybe I am flashing back to my organic chem days. Great video, I can see where this technique will be very useful.

      More than an Ouija board, it's the technique in this video that I think is priceless, I am already coming up with a ton of ideas that before this were very hard or impossible to do. I'm looking forward to building more things using it. Thanks for watching Cindy :). P.S. I had no idea what Xylene even was before doing this video, I usually don't work with too many solvents, but it seems you are! lol

    A Ouija board!!😲🙌🏽 My sister had one of these, and mostly I remember trying to secretly modify it🤫to convince her it was working.🤭 Anyway, I love this prop, and the coaster idea is brilliant. Hey!! You should make those to sell!

      Deal! I’ll put up a set of 4 coasters on the site, shipping shouldn’t be too bad, I’ll find out! As for the board, I everyone at some point watched someone play with it, or did so themselves. There is a lot of superstition tied up in the board and I was on the fence about making it as a prop! Lol. Thanks for watching Fraidy!

    If you're making the coasters, think about adding an underlayer of thin cork board. Cut it just slightly under the overall dimensions of the planchette and glue into place with a waterproof glue on the wood side so as not to get wood on the cork in the hole of the planchette. It will help ensure that even if you have a bit of liquid slip through the middle hole, it will stay off your furniture. And, it really shouldn't distract from the uniqueness of the coasters.

      Hey Eric, thank you for the suggestion. I had actually been deliberating this exact thing with the cork (Your suggestion pushed me to actually do it as your reasons were spot on.) The hole that goes right through the planchette was causing some issues. So I decided to drill the hole about 3/4 through it and insert a 3d printed lens to make it look the part while not letting fluids go through to the surface. I'm hoping to have the first set ready tomorrow and will throw an image up on Instagram :) Thanks for the suggestions and for watching :)

    does laser or ink jet make a difference for the results?

    • @SamhainPropworks
      @SamhainPropworks  10 месяцев назад

      100%, toner is actually melted plastic, so the xylene reacts and allows the plastic to be transferred to the wood, it’s also why it stains so well, as the graphic is actually plastic particles. 😀
