I'd be saving those vintage elecrical parts.... you never know when you might need them!
Looks like it would have been easier to do a full re-wire on this one? Seems like there was lots of issues to sort.
Why not fit a quinetic switch on the wallpapered wall much better finish than surface box and trunking
Good idea!
So many worms you could hear the birds circling above 🐦😂
😂
I actually started watching electrician vids on youtube to see if it was just me that kept getting jobs like that
😆
Same here 😂👍
😂
14:48 - A guy I used to work with used to do that. I always thought it looked classy.
Really nice job in sorting out the mess cleaning up would get me your business you would be surprised the little things matter. Great idea on the fishing technique for the wires old school knowledge.
Haha thanks a lot!
British Insulated Callenders, Best known as cable manufacturers when I was a lad. Those were "state of the art" JB's back then.
Wow thanks for sharing! They do seem good quality.
We all get them loft jobs Jordan where when we get up there the job escalates to a whole new level of Agro ...especially when boarded to!!!!!. I don’t know but wouldn’t it have been easier in the long run to have taken a few pictures of them JB’s and shoddily run cables and pinged them over to the customer telling them it would be beneficial to re-wire??. I never feel happy using JB’s on alterations unless it was real last resort. That loft looks a right mess!!.
Great Vid as usual mate 👍🏻👌🏻
Thanks! The customer lives in Japan and the builder is running the job. He wanted to do a full renovation but client just wants the basics...
Nice video Jordan. Have you seen the bead master stuff from Pete Carter. He does spot light covers along with single and double socket covers. The plasters just plaster straight over them and then you cut the middle part out exposing the hole ready for fitting. Leaves a good clean finish. And no risk of plasters filling your boxes
Sounds good I will check it out!
jeezz! sphagetti loft! well done not going insaine doing it!
Haha thanks
Thanks Jordan
Thanks for watching!
Faffing around is the behind the scenes preparation work that nobody sees.
I went out to a lighting fault a couple of months ago on an emergency and found rodents had eaten through 2 switch drops and a live/neural loop feed between 2 lights in the loft, boarded as well
Yep!
Another great video Jordan. Glad there wasn't any more cowboy music in this vid lol. good job mate.
Haha thanks
I thought you were gonna notice there was no cpc
I like it this is my field.
Thanks
Hi I would rewire the whole house completely no earth I don’t take chances mate
Yeah I wish I could
why no earth?
Lot of the old houses with 1mm cable don’t have earth on lighting circuits they are the older csbles
Hope you didnt do that surface trunking, Spoiling ship for a ha’porth of tar?
I did 😩
That junction says B.I. Callendar’s. Later renamed BICC (British Insulated Callender's Cables). According to Wikipedia the company was formed by merger in 1945, and renamed to BICC in 1975, which makes that box at least 45 years old.
Wow that’s cool thanks for the research! BICC cables are still around I think!
My mum and dad worked for Connollys in the early 70’s which was a BICC company
Awesome
Just found your channel and I'm loving the videos. When you do the intermission/montage music, would you level down the audio? I'm wearing headphones and, when I turn it up for the speaking audio, I get blasted when the music plays. Keep it up!
Ps check if you require to install fuse protection to the extract fans . I fit fuses protection to fans as standard now .
The ones I use are envirovent and they don’t need a fuse
By the time youve mucked about fixing all the crap you couldve rewired it
Definitely!
Has artex been checked for asbestos?
No but we always assume it has asbestos in it and wear a mask and keep drilling to a minimum
@@artisanelectrics I got caught out with it when I was a 1st year apprentice ragging a wall. Wasn't until I cut 6 chases I was told it was artex
@@artisanelectrics fibres can latch on to your clothes and skin. Never assume mate!!
Ouch
Junction box.... BL is BI British Insulated + Calender = early name for BICC / British Insulated Calender Cables.. Big manufacturer od cables and accessories in the 30 - 50's
Hi Jordan,
Do you need to use LFS cables for a HMO? Or the usual grey cables
Is a VIR cable the same as was known as TRS (Tough Rubber Sheathed)?
At one time in the UK was all building made from brick. Do they still use a lot of brick and if so are there brick factories in the UK.
Yes most houses here are made of brick, even new houses built now.
@@artisanelectrics Except when they use cladding that makes it look like the building has been made of brick but it's completely fake.
Tricky job!! Hopefully no rodents in the loft! I had a job last year where the customer had just moved in and she had had rodents in the loft she could here them scratching the ceilings when she went to be. When I went in the loft there was maggots and dead rodents and the smells were unpleasant I get all the top jobs 😂🤣
Your still working through Covid-19 then? Most of our firm have been furloughed and just a few working on essential works only.
This was from 3 weeks ago. I’m still working a bit but only in empty properties or emergency jobs.
Nice job
Thanks!
Yes lovely
those with headphones 3:25 - be careful!
Sorry! Didn’t realise it the music was too loud
and at 15.24 :-)
Nothing at all wrong with singles , have you ever worked in France ? Lots of them there, no flat twin & cpc allowed !!
I though they mainly use NYJJ cable there?
Artisan Electrics Generally singles in flexible conduit, no ring final circuits, no loop in for lighting, often use relays for two way switching , all double pole breakers, all radials, hence stacked CU's. Been there, dealing with EDF can be problematic, often a case of wine gifted to the local Mayor will help. 😂☘️
@@artisanelectrics Germany would be much more into NYM-J. Also used a lot in the south of Ireland, but not so much to wire an entire domestic premises.
👍😁
Richard Walsh South of Ireland ? I should know, I'm from Co.Wexford , don't know much about the German systems . Keep safe. Now wash your hands 😂
What cable do you use for your smoke alarms?
3 core and earth flat PVC
@@artisanelectrics I prefer to use FP cable as that way anyone else can see it's for the fire alarm system, easy identification with it being red and obviously a different cable than flat 3 core & earth.
Hmm that was a bit of a cluster fuck. The design of the older junctions though feels superior (excepting safety) than the stuff you now find readily available. That said in the past the mantra was if you shove a finger in a hole in a junction box you deserved to get shocked much like sticking a finger in a saw bench will loose you those fingers.
Play stupid games, wins stupid prizes.
So true
Pure dirt ,I think total rewire at this point your head will be wrecked mate messing around with junction boxes everywhere 😡
I know! Wish I could
I have come across a few cans of worms over the years ..
I bet!
Is it me or is that noggin at 17:15 not level?
Who’s Andy?
One of the subbies I use on a regular basis.
Your in a minority with cleaning up Jordan!
I love being in a minority! Makes me stand out from the rest!
Oh I feel dizzy
😂
Is it really essential to change the vr if it looks in serviceable condition. Make it off as close to the entry point in the wall/loft and put it on the test cert. was it in poor condition?
I always remove VIR if possible
In my day BICC was British Insulated Calendar Cables, may have been a trade name
Cool
could leave the VRI cable inspect it yearly make extra cash lol
😂
£25 000 rewire rip it all out and start again 👍👍👍H ouse O f M ultiple O rrors ☢️☢️☢️☢️
This guy and CJ are the most annoying electricians on RUclips just strange characters. Nagy, Bundy DSS all the way !
Haha well everyone has different taste I guess!
FFS!
Fix your sound!
Ola Hansen when music started at 3.30 nearly blew my eardrums with the headphones on 🤪
Ah sorry didn’t notice much increase in volume on my computer when editing
