Good talk on the rules. Thanks to the lab for all the work.

Is the audio only on the left channel for everyone else?

But a cellphone next to your bed and a tower outside your window is just fine

try looking up the RF power output on that cell phone. even at 1 watt, which is about 3 times over that of cell phones, you only need about 5 inches. Hence why the industry says to not put phone closer then 6 inches. However, most NEVER read the warning or manual to their beloved internet connection device!

Three experts and they can only get sound out of one of my speakers :-(

So what about CB radio user?

4 watts. You're safe. By a large margin.

@@electrolytics only if they comply with rules. I dont know many CB'ers now days, but the ones I do, dont run 4 watts. In fact they dont even run 400 watts! I see a guy out of Grants pass Oregon that runs well over 10Kw into a beam aimed at the gulf of Mexico. I did some antenna work for him a few yrs ago, and measured a 1.27VSWR. Thats roughly 95% getting to antenna, or 9,500watts! I know he doesnt care about RF exposure to self or anyone else. I agree though, if you play by the rules, you are safe and never going to have a problem unless you just feel like grabbing that antenna while transmitting. at that point, may I suggest licking it?

@@ChrisRobinsonKF6NFW Yeah but his beam has to be pretty far up off the ground, I'm assuming? Not that others take the same precautions.
28 MHz is on the relatively safe area of the spectrum too isn't it? Compared to say VHF?

    • @ChrisRobinsonKF6NFW

His beam is about 40 ft up. Nothing special. In regards to VHF, that is debatable. However. I do operate 160 watts at 2 meters. measured 143watts at antenna. I am either using a vertical, or the yagis. the vertical is roughly 8dBi, the yagis, are roughly 17.5dBi. I enjoy SSB, and digital modes on VHF. Please do not climb the tower and place self in front. I will laugh and then prove the stupidity of such an act!
On serious note. VHF isnt anymore dangerous then HF, when we pay attention to MPE. However on the surface, yes I think I agree with your notion that 1 watt at 11mtrs vs. 1 watt at VHF 2mtr, is less harmful, when all other factors are same.

and then the "thing" right now seems to be magnetic loop antennas. What a great thing for us hems to experiment with... a compact high efficiency antenna....what a great way to test out the limits of the new rf exposure limits. Another big shame

FCC FEES RULES will kill the hobby and ARRL will happily go along : ( Sorry I just joined ARRL, at least I got a "free" Antenna Book. Never again. . .

If it takes ANYONE over an hour to explain "rf radiation rules" that's about 50 minutes too damn long. By the way you people have priced me out of your (ARRL) market. I am done sending money to you for your little "club" just so I can read the ads in your "magazine."
