- Honda is recalling more than 2 million vehicles in the U.S. over a fuel pump defect. The move comes as multiple automakers are recalling vehicles in the U.S. over safety concerns, including Toyota and Tesla. David Welch, Detroit bureau chief for Bloomberg News, joined CBS News to discuss the problems.

Recalls happen. It's how a brand handles the recall that matters. Remember Ford's Pinto calculation on liability vs. cost of fixing gas tank?
That 1970’s thing is irrelevant now, you’re citing a well-known trivia.
What’s funny is that I had a fuel pump recall in my Civic for the year models mentioned a few years ago. I hope this doesn’t imply the replacement is also defective.
I did the recall as well, about 2 years ago I am sure we are ok. It's the original part that came with the car that is defective. It's just some people still haven't replaced it yet....
I still rather Honda products over other brands, but really hoping American made products for Honda improvement
They always focus on Tesla when all the OEM's have recalls that we hardly hear about.
You miss how they started with honda?
Great example on the benefits of having an older car.
My revivifier says, "You're welcome to have my 'older' car. I'm sick of the niggling electrical wiring failures..."
My 1988 civic has original fuel pump still lol
Keep in mind this defect is rare because the fuel pump isn’t an issue in any of these models to go out 24/7.
They only announce it when it's cheap to fix, so they look good. But the real serious defect goes challenged by the makers. Sad.
That’s not true at all lmfao
@@giovanigeorgis3848it is somewhat true. If it's a serious defect that's costly but won't affect safety, they'll ignore it or chalk it up to a part "wearing out" and needing a replacement which will come from the consumers' pockets and not the manufacturer. I've mentioned issues with my Honda ridgeline just months out the door. What do you know...some of those things eventually made it to recall. The dealership and manufacturer said those things were "normal". One issue was the shaking hood at speed. Having common sense and some engineering background, I knew that was not normal...that amount of movement on a supposed static structure will cause fatigue.
They eventually issued a recall for that when hoods were delatching while driving . They recall when the fear of getting sued will be more costly than issuing the recall.
The worst part of this fuel pump recall is that there will not be a fix until the fall of 2024. So millions of people are driving around in cars that can stall with no way to get them fixed. To their credit, Honda dealers won't sell the ones that are traded in to them. If you buy from Carmax, Carvana, etc., buyer beware.
install an aftermarket hpfp or something
OTA update?
Thank you for sharing this information about the Honda recall. What are the year of the vehicle 🚗
2017-2020
It must be made in America for sure without a doubt for that to happan
Cars got cheap when we stopped making them in America
How many EV fires have we seen without a single recall?! Strange...
goes against the narrative
How do you not know tesla recalled every single american ev the other day?
@@tylerdurden4006 Tesla's recall has nothing to do with thermal runaway or lithium fires, as Silent said, recalling 'that' is against the narrative, that these things are *safe*...
Oddly enough, cancer rates have more than doubled since the introduction of lithium batteries on the consumer market...yet still no massive recalls.
Population control?! Maybe?!! lol
@@silentmajority8365 I keep trying to warn people, but nobody believes you until they actually get cancer...lithium is the most unstable and unsafe battery technology on the market, yet they're trying to ram the crap down our throats...F-THAT!!
They keep getting all these “reliability” awards yet recalls all the time.
That’s the same thing I be saying ..
Huge Toyota fan but will most definitely respect Honda. Toyota and Honda are at the top not even close
After all these years , still enjoy driving my big beautiful fully equipped 440cu in 74 Imperial . Comfortable , super quiet , 100% dependable . Was a tad over 10g 50yrs ago . Has never needed any repair , just tires and oil changes . Will never be another car in my (attached) garage , especially EV. I love my home to much .
The Tesla "recall" was solved with an over the air update!
People don’t understand that these things happen. Recalls are common. Atleast Hondas recalls ain’t killing people. 0 fatalities
The fuel pump recall almost got me killed.
Damn i didn't see my 93 honda civic hatch on the list roflmao 😂😅😊..
It should be called co-pilot instead of autopilot. The marketing is deceptive.
Laughable that the name autopilot gives drivers a sense that the car does more than it does.
Reporter shouldn't have a dog in the fight. It's a recall. Whether u have to take it to a dealer or not. It's worse that Tesla makes u fix it yourself. Simply calling it an update doesn't make it kess of a problem.
The thing that makes it function correctly is broken and must be fixed. 💁
The Japanese 🇯🇵 have high self-respect. The Chinese don't.
Honda is not chinese.
Thata sounda ray zist
@@user-vj4ih9pp9zexactly, which is why they have self respect in actually recalling the cars instead of letting the issue sit and do nothing.
It’s called a software update.
fuel pump = software? Try again.
Its called making it complicated to charge more money
A useful analysis would include cost. Honda replacing 2 Million fuel injection systems at $500/ea = $1 Billion. Repairs will take years... Honda will be bankrupt before the fix is finished. The Tesla "recall?" Done. Last week. Cost? $0.00, as car computers updated overnight. p.s. my laptop was "recalled" twice this week by Microsoft 🤣
Honda can afford a billion, what the hell are you talking about? And it’s just the fuel pump systems, and different models are affected with different costs 😂🤦🏻♂️
Recall is not a bad word. It means companies are taking responsibility for issues in their product and taking care of it. Imagine how many issues are swept under the rug or left to the consumer to deal with.
If a company could just make a simple ICE engine without all this computer crap, things would be so much simpler. No stop/start crap, no cameras everywhere, no driver assist, no hybrid motors, none of it.
Give me buttons and dials, an old school carbeurator, and some Detroit steel. Driving can be fun again!
Those days are long gone. Especially with the EV government mandates looming
Damm grandpa, its 2023.
0-60 in half the time now, that means double the fun.
@@user-vj4ih9pp9z Grandpa knows his gender and went to school without shooting
Grandpa could fix his car today repairs that were under a hundred dollars are now thousands
@@silentmajority8365 Whats up with americans always talking about genders? You guys have more than 2?
Bidennnnnnnnnn!!!!!!
