    I have a personal story of being a Christian secretary in the front office of a public elementary school and my school district tried to come after me for putting a Bible verse in my email signature (while other staff was allowed to have pronouns and quotes from Marxist authors in their email signatures). I stood strong and refused and they backed off. They didn’t have a policy to backup their request. But it was a modern day example of Jesus’ words that “you will be persecuted for his namesake”. ✝️🙏

    I taught at a private, Christian school in the Midwest.
    It was an awful school.
    A few examples: multiple teachers were pro abortion, one teacher said she didn't believe in God anymore (?!), the top administration had no education experience and yet made every single decision down to if a teacher could order more scissors, the admin would gaslight new teachers if they asked any questions about health insurance/contracts/hours (red flag of losing teachers and students every year).
    All that to say, just because a school claims to be Christian doesn't mean the teachers, school culture, admin actually are!

      So sad but true. I have a friend who is a teacher at a Christian school who says very few of the teachers actually believe the gospel. My cousin just graduated from a different Christian school who described it as very "woke" and advised us not to send our kids there if we actually want them to get a Christian education.

      Interesting. I have taught at two different international Christian schools overseas. Believe me they were not perfect but in general I thought they were wonderful places. I taught at one for five years in eastern Europe, and the community could not have been better. Working at these places are treasured memories for me especially now considering what's happening in education in America.

      one reason why i LOVE my kid's private christian school is that we had to sign an agreement that the school does not tolerate any sort of gender ideology BS, will advise any students dealing with same sex attraction to actual helpful therapy instead of just affirming them, and if we decide to participate in any of the gender ideology stuff we'll be removed from the school. they did not care my kids aren't vaccinated (many other christian schools required the covid vax) and the administrator of the preschool and all the teachers i've come in contact with are on FIRE for the Lord. they really seem to walk the wall not just talk the talk.

    This will be an interesting conversation. My kids attend a Chrsitian school so even though we do the scholastic book fairs, a small group of us moms go through most of the books before they make it to the fair. First of all, a lot of them are just bad in general. Bad art, bad story, just a lot of fart jokes, etc.... and many have subtle lgbtq characters,... this in elementary level. And you are doing a great job! Being actively involved daily with your kids in the Word is what we're called to do. Daniel's parents couldn't homeschool him, yet he remained in the faith. We are in modern Babylon. We can homeschool our kids till they leave the house, but one day, they're going to have to live in this Babylon that's teaching them falsehood. Our kids need constant practice discerning right from wrong. We must be actively engaged, teaching them it's better to get a poor grade on a test while standing for truth than it is to bow to the world. We can give them a strong godly culture and train them to embrace it regardless of looking odd to "friends" who come and go. Both homeschool and public school parenting are hard work. But it's hard work that's worth it.

    I’m so glad this conversation is happening! I assistant-managed and then managed an independent bookstore for several years. The family that ran the store had several other locations and when I first started, all the booksellers were raving about this new book called “George” by Alex Gino. It was a middle grade book about a transgender kid. This book went on to win several awards, so many people raved about it. Let me tell you, I never sold a single copy to a customer. Not because it wasn’t there (it was displayed constantly) but because no parent wanted to purchase it! (And our store was in a very liberal town in Chicagoland.) That was about 7 years ago and since then it’s just gotten worse and worse. The amount of propaganda for children that we got in from publishers, especially scholastic, was tiresome. Baby books about consent and feminism, thinly veiled storybooks about CRT… you name it, we had it. Rarely a normal, wholesome, simple story was found, everything had an ulterior motive. I tried to be a light in dark place but eventually I felt like a closeted Christian and if I wasn’t reading or selling a woke book, I wasn’t praised. I love books fiercely but just couldn’t get on board. So I left and eventually my location was closed down. It’s disgusting how something so beautiful like literature has been hijacked to promote lies. Thank God for a new company. I hope enough fed up Christians will start to contribute for alternatives that are done in excellence and Truth!

God never mentions schools or have someone else train your children. It has not been easy because my husband is the only one that works which means we live on one income, one car, no vacations, etc.. but God has definitely blessed us in other ways. As a writer who has pursued publishing, I can tell you it's bigger than scholastic too. Many of your big 5 publishers are ACTIVELY seeking writers to write this kind of material for all ages. There are still some great publishers and literary agents out there, but the tide is definitely shifting towards this across many major publishers.

      I'm in publishing too. Every monthly issue of Booklist and School Library Journal 100% reflects this. Full of activism books, books on gender, books on race/crt, etc. And those 2 are the gold standard for what librarians look at when determining collections. 😳😬

    • @johnlyndseylewellen9076
      @johnlyndseylewellen9076 9 месяцев назад +6

      Yes, this! When I first tried to get published, this wasn't as big of a deal (2016). But it quickly became one. The wishlist for most agents and publishers in the YA (and younger) fiction world excludes Christian authors heavily. It's not that we aren't out here. It's that we're gatekeeped to death.
      In good news, there are publishers looking for Christian fiction, and from what I can tell, they're growing. We have to keep requesting these books in bookstores and libraries grassroots style.

    • @kathyellendavis
      @kathyellendavis 7 месяцев назад +1

      I'm in publishing too, and it's coming a long way with publishing books that reflect the world we live in. Nothing wrong with books that talk about gender, race, and activism; they may not be for everyone and they're not the only books published. It always makes me laugh when people talk about libraries and bookstores being "filled" with books with LGBTQ+ characters when it's statistically not possible. The latest stats on books published for kids shared that about five percent had LGBTQ+ characters. So that's 95 percent without. Good news for the people freaking out and thinking libraries and bookfairs are filled with them. It's not true!

    Tonight is family night my 4yp grandsons school. In preparation of the chance that I might be able to attend, I looked at the Scholastic flyer on the school website to see if there were any that I thought would be a good match for him. There were a few that my spirit cringed at the title, so I looked them up online and marked them as a big fat NO.
    Then, as I was listening to podcasts as I'm working, this one comes on next in line...no searching needed...just God.

    Not every school has these types of books and I DO know this as a public school teacher here in Orlando Florida. Our state has had laws put in place to make sure this doesn’t happen. My district/state took it to the extent of having us list every book that every teacher has in our own personal library in the classrooms. My school is making sure teachers comply. Parents must have access to this list which has to be found on our school’s website. And then from there parents can list books they do not want their own kids to read with a “limited access consent form”. Or a full access consent from which gives students access to teacher’s and school library. I get that all this is very important. As a teacher who spent more than days working through this process so that I wouldn’t have to have my library not available to kids for another year due to this, I made sure to make my list, wait for my books to get approved, and then finally give my students access back to fun books. Our librarian and myself do not want to risk our teaching certificates because of books that are inappropriate or not suitable for kids at certain ages so we have taken this seriously. As a Christian I understand the importance of making sure certain types of books are not being shared with kids. I have heard of these inappropriate books in many places. But it’s not like this everywhere. Maybe it’s thanks to laws which drove us teachers crazy but now protect us if we followed through with getting books approved.

    Thank you so much for this wonderful encouragement. I love Kirk Cameron even more now! I'm praying for my kids, all 5 in public school because my husband (not a follower of Christ) made this decision regarding their education & won't listen to my arguments in favor of homeschooling. I've always wanted to homeschool, as I was homeschooled & so value that my mom pulled me from public school to teach me. I want to homeschool my 8-year-old twins. Their school does Scholastic Book Fairs; actually it's next week. Thankful you are exposing the harmful stuff they're printing & marketing! I would see their order forms, and I notice just how *woke* they have become. There aren't many Christian books that I could find (other than Berenstain Bears). And I'm glad another parent mentioned how they are just plain bad! (poor writing/art, too much toilet humor). Why should I give my money to this?

      Look up some Christian homeschoolers on RUclips and start learning. I have now seen many examples of homeschoolers who also work. Homeschool isn't 7 hours a day and doesn't have to be in the daytime. There are parents who do it in the evenings and weekends. I have seen stories of people who dramatically downsize to make it possible. Seriously, a family with 6 kids lived in a tent (a nice sturdy one with a floor and electricity) for a season so mom could stay home and Homeschool. Where there's a will, there's a way.

      We were a blue collar family on one income and homeschooling 5 kids. My husband even lost his job during covid for fighting the mandates and we took a huge financial blow. We are still paycheck to paycheck abd trying to replace what was lost, but God has been so faithful. Our church has been amazing. We attend an inexpensive homeschool co-op once a week and they work on their homework throughout the week. Grandparents help when they can (they all still work full time) and our church community all help each other. If your heart is leading toward this direction, pray and wait on the Lord. He will make a way. It will not be easy.... but so so rewarding.
