There is enough metal in this song to rebuild the death star.
Great comment!
Fifty times over.
Oh shit you win!
god tier comment
if i could give you 3000 thumbs up i would
This is the song you play, when someone ask "What is Heavy Metal?".
Nah I love Rob Halford but I go to Motörhead, Razor or Venom for that.
Naw
Nope. This is “The Song”.
Agreed. This song is the definition of heavy metal.
That and Trooper from Iron Maiden
Judas Priest finally just made the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for 2022. 👏 👏
Wait it really took THIS long? Oyeee.
Yeah and sad truth about your commit is they finally made it should have been there years ago. PRIEST.....🤘🤘🤘
Well deserved
The shame of fame don't deserve Priest
Lol they did not actually. They got put on the kids table. If I was them, I would feel very disrespected.
He held that last note for 20 seconds. I can't even hold my breath that long without dying.
In 2021 Judas Priest guitarist during a concert has aortic aneurysm while performing ‘Painkiller’. He the solo flawlessly and finished the song and then they rushed him to the hospital for emergency surgery.
Rob halford is called the metal
God. He can sing in so many octaves. He is amazing. Check out some of their older stuff. You will be amazed.
nicely put!
Sad wings of destiny
Victims of Changes from Sad Wings of Destiny. Holy balls Halford puts on a show in that tune!!!
DIO IS THE KING OF METAL THO
That Band Fight had some of his craziest stuff too though.
Judas Priest were facing a tough time in 1989, being called "out of step" in heavy metal and being sued for a double-suicide in court... Thankfully, the band was acquitted of wrongdoing, but were ready to respond w/ the 1990 album 'Painkiller' which pushed the speed & intensity of Judas Priest's music to new heights 🤘🤘It quickly silenced the critics and delighted their fans...
The origins of Judas Priest were in Birmingham, England... they were a local rock band in 1971 when guitarist K.K. Downing and bassist Ian Hill joined. In 1973, the band hired a new vocalist Rob Halford, who proved to be tremendous vocalist w/ a high range and stage presence. As Priest was getting signed around 1974, they hired a 2nd guitarist Glenn Tipton... he and Downing would prove to be THE heavy metal twin-guitar duo. However, their first 2 albums in 1975 and 1976 did not sell commercially... Judas Priest might have broken up, but an offer to sign w/ a US label CBS Records brought the band back financially and put them on tour in N. America in 1977 for their 3rd album 'Sin after sin'... It was in the late 70's that vocalist Rob Halford started wearing leather outfits w/ metal spikes on stage... the other members followed his look. Priest then made a Harley motorbike a part of their stage act as Halford would drive one onstage during the set.
Commercial success finally came in 1980 w/ Judas Priest's 6th album 'British Steel' going gold... Dave Holland joined on drums for the 80's decade... Unlike most 70's bands, Judas Priest embraced the 'heavy metal' tag and influenced a huge number of 80's rock/ metal bands from Metallica to Megadeth and Pantera and beyond...their 8th album 'Screaming for vengeance' in 1982 became a platinum success and the were the most successful heavy metal band on the planet for a few years.
They had some setbacks after drug & alcohol addictions were affecting Rob Halford. He was a gay man in the metal scene and was not encouraged to 'come out' because of his image w/ Priest, or seek a relationship in the gay community... this led to bad choices and a near-suicide attempt in 1986 (which was kept secret for years)... Halford was able to clean up his act and carry on w/ Judas Priest, but by 1988, the band found themselves being overtaken by faster and heavier bands like Metallica and Slayer. 'Painkiller' in 1990 showed the world what they could do as a band, w/ new drummer Scott Travis.
Unfortunately, Rob Halford decided he wanted out, and quit Priest in 1992 in favor of a solo career... Judas Priest was in limbo for years until 1997, when they announced a new singer Tim 'Ripper' Owens had joined. However, 2 studio albums w/ Owens on vocals were not commercially successful... By 2002, Rob Halford's solo career had also floundered, w/ bands like Fight, 2wo, and Halford.
In 2004, Judas Priest announced a reunion w/ singer Rob Halford... their career took an upswing and they delivered 2 successful albums by 2008... In 2010, after years of disagreements w/ Priest's management, guitarist K.K. Downing quit the band - he recently formed his own band K.K.'s Priest w/ vocalist Tim 'Ripper' Owens.
Judas Priest recruited guitarist Richie Faulkner in 2011 to replace Downing... In 2017, guitarist Glenn Tipton announced that he would be unable to tour w/ Judas Priest due to Parkinson's disease; Tipton would still write & record, but their producer Andy Sneap would play guitar in his place onstage... Judas Priest announced a 50th anniversary tour in 2021.
I felt like I just read a wiki on the band there’s so much knowledge here
I saw them last year and it was the loudest concert I had ever been to. And I have seen Korn, Rage Against the Machine and other metal and death metal bands in concert.
Judas Priest was the loudest concert I've attended in my life. Caught them in Atlanta back in the day. Dude rode out onto the stage on a Harley (in an indoor arena). I couldn't hear for about 2 hrs afterwards. The entire car ride home was just a bunch of people yelling "THAT WAS AWESOME!!!" or "WHAT?!".
yep
Exactly the same for me. Caught them in 1980 at a small college arena, had 5th row seats. This was the British Steel album tour. My ears were ringing for 3 days after.
Same here. Saw them when this album came out. Indoors, rode his Harley on stage, couldn't hear shit until the next day 😂
A little history lesson. This came out after 2 weak albums, Turbo and Ram it Down. People thought Judas Priest couldn't hang with the newer metal bands. I bought this album just hoping they kind of came back. This album blew me away. Scott Travis (drummer) was an amazing addition and is still their drummer to this day.
Turbo was lowkey hard
Both of them were great
Idk what you mean by weak lol
Turbo is definitely not as bad that many people say. It's little bit underrated to be honest...
Turbo is in my Top 5 Priest albums. I've loved it since I was a kid.
1). Screaming For Vengeance (1982)
2). British Steel (1980)
3). Turbo (1986)
4). Stained Class (1978)
5). Defenders of the Faith (1984)
@@garethdavies8004 Screaming for Vengeance is so tough
Best Judas Priest songs are: You Got Another Thing Coming, Living After Midnight, Breaking The Law and Electric Eye. I support this message.
Sorry to disagree. Those are great but commercial. 50 better Priest songs than radio stuff
Best Priest song ever. That is all.
I remember the first time I listened to this song and it was almost a religious experience. That electric guitar was preachin'. Try Victim of Changes by Judas Priest next. Its a whole nother vibe my guy.
Yeah man! The album before this, Ram It Down was kind of a sleeper and Priest seemed like they might have grown old and tired.
Then this album hit and just BLEW MY MIND.
@@silverjaw138 Facts
The singer Rob Halford has an incredible range and sustain to his voice, the held note at the end of the song is all Rob no trickery with enough puff left to say pain at the end.
He joined the band in 1973 and is still performing at the age of 70 yes 70.
He was one of the first openly Gay men in metal and deserves respect just for that let alone his incredible voice.
Judas Priest now in the R&R Hall of Fame....at last.
Louder song ....HEAR THEM LOUD!!!!!!
Eye opening, isn’t it? First time I heard it, I felt like running through a brick wall!
This would make a great song to set as your alarm….guaranteed not to hit snooze!
"I don't even want to pause"
As it should be
When I was 17, my friend Eric's dad owned a first generation Dodge Viper. He was giving a bunch of us speedrun rides in the car. I got to listen to this song in an open-top Viper at 150 miles an hour on an old 2-lane highway in the Wyoming desert on a cloudless summer day. It was awesome.
I was a recording engineer at Magic Traxx recording studio in 1985 in Virginia Beach VA. Scott Travis booked a Friday evening with me to make a demo tape to take with him to Los Angeles to see if he could break into the big time. I'll never forget that session. When I sat in the control room and he was playing I thought this kid just needs a break and he'll make it!
He didn't just want to be a rock star drummer. He wanted to be the drummer for Judas Priest. He has been their drummer now for 33 years \mXm/
One of best metal/ thrash songs ever made 🤘🤘🤘🤘
Painkiller pra mim é o melhor som de metal de todos os tempos..Halford melhor vocal do mundo
Respect for listening to other genres it's what it's about it's all art...
Seeing this live is amazing. I saw them perform this and the singer, Rob Halford, came out on a Harley Davidson and kept reving the thing up as loud as it would go in the middle of all the microphones. The second he stopped THAT'S when the drums kicked it.
The lead guitar work is so choice.
Plenty of shred and harmonics and then they hit a little transition note and let it ring a second pulling that bluesy soul note out.
YES! Please watch the VIDEO. It’s fire!
Honestly for most we caught off guard with this one back in the day 1990 Judas Priest killed it on this one . To you 2 💯❤️✌🏼🙏… 🤘
Thank you for not pausing this song. Really I appreciate you and so douse the Metal community.
Painkiller is the definition of Heavy Metal! That is Judas at their peak!!! Try the band Halford or Fight....Into the Pit!!!!
Justa lil crazy
Damn ! My blood's boiling hot ! Can't stop head-banging even at this age of 53 and with neck pain.
I love reactions when we finish the song then react...great job!
THANK YOU for not being disrepectful and not hitting pause during this pure kicking of the ass. Not, give 2018's Firepower a listen, you'll not regret it, You're Welcome!!
I love how your girl just sits there like a plank of wood
I love blasting this driving on the highway
Judas Priest - Painkiller is best meta song of world
Painkiller.....Opens up like a granite avalanche that overwhelms you, then dive-bombs you in a twin sonic boom of guitars without relenting to slam you into the wailing wall of the Banshee himself.....and thats in the first 30 seconds of the song....epic doesn't begin to cover it...
PAINKILLER is since 1991 STILL THE ultimate Defintion of Heavy Metal !!!!
Judas Priest is one of those bands that blows your mind live.
The OP is most certainly not wrong!
One of the absolute BEST Metal songs EVER.
People always say Motörhead was the loudest band on earth but I beg to differ. I saw both and Priest shredded my ears...couldn't hear shit except bleeeping and ringing of my ears for two days straight.
Probably the hardest metal song for a band to play. Not just guitar but all positions. The transitions are so many and it never lets up.
Seen live years ago and then again a couple years ago. This bad kicks in concert and has for decades.
Welcome to the metal family! It is awesome for this old man seeing first time reactions to these songs. I wish to high hell I could go back in time and listen to these for the first time again.
Richie Faulkner who is the current lead guitarist for Judas Priest had his heart literally explode on stage while playing the solo for pain killer and to his credit finished the song before going to hospital. Shows how awesome Glenn Tiptons solo was . Enough to make hearts explode. Jokes aside Richie is ok and recovered.
The power of metal ❤
There most explosive don’t EVER..the whole album kicks ass
My all time favorite drum intro.
Unlike rap, this kind of music takes talent.
Judas Priest members:
Rob Halford Vocals
Ian Hill Bass
Scott Travis Drum
Glenn Tipton Guitar
K.K. Downing Guitar
This group was the first real concert I attended - their DEFENDERS OF THE FAITH tour, which predates this by a fair amount.
My ears were still ringing two days later... great times!
I'm subscribing to your channel for the simple fact that there were no pauses. I don't mind pausing but I respect the shit out of that. thanks for the reaction, keep up the great work.
This song is like a rollercoaster ride, its going fast!!!
His voice alone can break glass from up to 25 yards away
Always fun watching people discover Painkiller for the first time. I first heard it over 30 years ago and it completely blew my mind.
Lead singer Rob Halford just got inducted into the Rock N Roll HOF as an individual and the band got recognized as well
Love y'all! ....Keep growing....and peace to all.
Priest is The Best Heavy Metal Band Over time ...... Hell Bend Vorefer ...
they are one of the inductee into the rock , and roll hall of fame. 2022!! heck yea!!!
This album embodies Metal 🤘
If you need to describe Heavy Metal to someone in one song, this is it.
It represents everything that Heavy Metal is.
look at the official video he is playing the drums like that
I saw these guys twice in the early 80s and their concerts were extremely loud , the loudest I've ever heard I thought they were trying to make me go deaf , no lie the singer road a Harley on stage and put the mic in the exhaust pipe and revved up the engine
That shits brutal.....Scott Travis on drums..
Every one talks about Queen at Live Aid. But the only 2 metal bands on the bill were Preist and Black Sabbath. Priest showed up to represent. You want to talk about not playing to your crowd. Rob Halford sent many new metal maniacs home that day. See em live? This is the show.
When they duel guitar it's freakin amazing to see. KK And Tipton, then the ear piercing Rob Halford vocals then Hill kicking the double bas first to do that. Bassist is so bad ass to.
Now gotta hit Judas Priest " you got another thing coming"
She was smiling so much before the song started. Methinks she heard it before... ;)
The Painkiller is running over Prince's Purple Rain vinyl on your wall with Deadly Wheelz
yes chris the official vid to this song is awesome watch it
This came out right after I graduated high school! Talk about some crazy times to this song!!🤘🤘🤘
Check out the band Byzantine. They are loud but mix all kinds of metal. From classic thrash, groove metal like Pantera to melodic. Their song Soul Eraser is about the drug pandemic sweeping our nation. They are signed to metal blade records. Have toured the world. Discovered by Lamb of God. Criminally underrated.
Never understood why everyone suggests Painkiller all the time.. Start with the easier listening first if you're new to Priest..
"Turbo Lover", "Johnny B Goode", "Rock Hard Ride Free", "Living After Midnight", "Braking the Law"..
by the way one of the best solos i ever heard
One of the great heavy metal songs of all time great voice great live band show
Once the guitars came in it was over with ! You get why ppl say it’s heavy loud or fast “your goddamn right “ !😂🤟🏻😎
Cant. Stop.The. Pain kiilllllllllleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
I saw them in concert in March.LOL! Rob is a Metal God. So happy they will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame this year. It's about time.
I saw them twice on this tour in 90 and it was so loud that my ears are still ringing from it today.
Did you know that here on RUclips there is a video of Rob Halford from Judas Priest performing Painkiller with BabyMetal and it's as awesome as it sounds.
The best way to describe this song (for me) is the ferocious instrumentations of early Metallica with a vocalist straight from the early days of glam metal. There’s a lot of pageantry to the vocals with that bite that feels scary and the instrumentals are just aggressive and in your face the whole time. I love this song so much, especially as a Priest fan in general, they always evolved and at least tried new things, some stuck and some didn’t, but you gotta love a band that started in the 70s trying to stay modern by adapting.
Man, Tipton on this song was out of control.
I recently saw them in concert. They still kick ass after 50 years!
This whole album is 🔥
That's how it done kiddies🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
ladies and gents...all bow to King Halford and the Priest
Leather Rebel is what got me started when some chick left a bootleg cassette tape and then I bought the cassette for that particular song it fucking blew my mind and I even jammed to it to onmyguitar! Thanks you 2
I've seen Judas Priest live and this is one of my favorites to watch live cause everyone gets hyped, the crowd is buzzing!
I will see them after 60 days, hoping to play it
This is without question one of my fav JP songs. Couple more to react to would be Night Crawler and definately make sure you hit up on Halls of Valhalla.
This song is magic…
Tiptons best guitar solo ever
That’s what music from England sounds like.
Scott Travis is the drummer, tall skinny dude about 6'7"
Rob Halford is one of a kind 🤘🤘🤘
The defintion of heavy metal.
Saw this song live last year before Metallica played and one of their guitarist was bleeding out internally and near death but finished the killer solo towards the end. Thankfully he made it to the hospital and recovered. If that’s not metal, then idk what is😂🤘
This is just is an Anthem ! Fantastic !!
JUDAS PRIEST = Metal GODS ⚡️💎🦅
check out their other hits Like Free Wheel Burning, Metal Gods, Hell Bent For Leather Live at the US Festival and SO Many More ))) ))) ))) 😎
Damn big boy you got a migraine and you listen to this song on full blast? man .....you DA MAN!
I've been watching your channel since the beginning. I am seeing such a cool transformation of you guys. You're gaining so much experience and really starting to see the musical talent you're exposing yourself too. It's amazing to see two wonderful young adults grow and appreciate the diversity all music can provide✌ coming from a mother of a 24 yo, who's also a hip hop head/ rock fan! Love to you both :)
LOVE you 2!! Keep moving UP!
Into Eternity - Timeless Winter (OFFICIAL VIDEO)
someday,if aliens comes to earth, and ask you: "what is heavy metal?" play Painkiller.
