I’m a women 65 year old, I run on a treadmill 4 times a week, mixes incline up and down ,at 6 and 7 speed for 4miles , plus 2 hot yoga a week and 2 strength training, I do mixes with hitt workout ,love this schedule ❤
Just turned 47 years old last month.. I have exercised pretty much all my adult life but I was never consistent until two years ago . I finally installed this habit into my life now I hit the gym every single day for 6 days a week , spend about 90 min each day but I do mostly cardio and HIIT ( High Intensity Interval Training ) . I can not even tell you guys how much the quality of my life has improved since I made exercise a daily habit. My sleep has gotten much better, my mental clarity as well as my ability to focus has been through the roof. I never get sick now . Regular exercise is really the elixir of life ..!
You bet! I very rarely get sick. The last time was sometime pre covid. 60 years young.
"Every single day for 6 days a week" is too many words
@@DeletedDenizen Thank you teacher : )
Wow I read your message and it sounds just like me; Turned 47 in May, exercises q. Day x 6 days per week, eating plant based foods and never gotten sick in years, mental health check. So amazing how similar
@@StoicAurelius1 Great to hear mate ! I am pretty sure it has a lot to do with certain hormones released by the brain after the exercise , mostly a cocktail of make you feel good type of hormones . The cold shower at the end of the exercise is the icing on the cake : )
At 61, I feel the best ever. Exercise everyday has made the big difference for me…
Great stuff. Peter's calm and rational dissection of the complex issues is spot on. He's a valuable and coherent voice in a sea of information overload
My mother in law died at 93 on a roadtrip with her daughter. She was legally blind but that didn’t stop her walking every day living independently and participating in everything. 90’s goals
"The chassis and the tires". As a fellow racing and Senna fan, I appreciate your analogies!
I did a spartan race yesterday and a fun 10k in 55 minutes today. It is what keeps me sane and happy
That's a lot in 2 days. Take care of your joints.
This was really very educational. Thanks 🙏
My life is 3000% better because of this guy.
Because of you.
I’m 66 look in my early 50’s zone 2 training mixed with lifting medium weights 3 times a week. Doing great 👍 😊 oops 😬 need to stretch more is my only weakness
Guys, don’t you find it strange that many of the “revolutionary” and non-mainstream fitness and health influencers seem to look worse in terms of health and appearance compared to influencers who focus on the basics, like trying to gain lean mass, controlling calories, walking, instead of following all these elaborate protocols? I saw a video of Jeff Cavaliere-he’s older than Andrew Huberman, Paul Saladino, and only slightly younger than Peter Attia-and the guy looks much healthier, even though he doesn’t do much cardio, uses the microwave, eats sugar, and so on, but focuses on calorie restriction.
My main point is that I feel much better and healthier with the traditional approach instead of pouring all my energy into miracle supplements, ice baths, endless cardio, saunas, this food, that food, no food at all...
dont you think??
Jack Lalane wrote the book on exercise and longevity. You can't reinvent the wheel.
I agree. If you eat like a sensible person and are active in a way you enjoy have good genetics and use sunscreen you don’t need to chase the next new thing. I have seen the transformative effect of strength training on women over 80 so I am committed to that but again it is the basics. Nothing new
I agree with your general point, but why are you lumping cardio in with ice baths and miracle supplements? Cardio is basic stuff. How could it be healthy to rarely elevate your heart rate? I agree that it doesn't need to be complicated and super specific kinds of cardio, but I think cardio is one of those basics to hit
That's a cool goal. It's not even "longevity" per se... it's trying to be physically capable until you die
8:53 - Oh man, Peter looks REALLY similar to Big Ramy here.
I just guessed that he was ethnically Egyptian based on that alone and yes he actually is lol.
Use it or lose it....been true forever
31, chronic neck pain and issues. Joints suck ..family priority need to exercise more. Recommendations?
Get into the work of Dr. John Sarno. Your pain may be a mind/body issue. Also the Pain PT RUclips channel.
@@scottyg5403 really appreciate the comment, I'll look into it
Just start
Just make the time. Your family will thank you in the long run especially when there are grandchildren to play with.
Longevity? how long is long enough? I know its an individual answer for each person, but really how long is log enough?
Deadlifting and squatting is the only thing you need for stability power and strength
Who else feels strong relative to their age, past 35?👍
55.❤ Stay hard!!
As a present for my 50th birthday, I bought myself a HYROX and completed it in Cologne last April in 01:34:58. The next goal is to be better than the average, regardless of age group. In my opinion, HYROX is the perfect sport for longevity and healthspan. It combines strength AND endurance. The exercises are not very technical, so the risk of injury is very low. Leg/core and grip strength are at the centre of the strength exercises, exactly what you need as you get older. But just my humble opinion.
I'm one month away from 61. I've always been an exerciser, but over the last year, I've really stepped up the strength training. Progressive overload, lift to failure. I'm lifting heavier than I ever imagined I could, and I'm still getting better. I'm an avid walker as well and try to get at least 30 minutes per day. My energy level isn't quite what it was. Menopause whooped my *ss and energy is still a work in progress.
I find it strange that Peter so strongly weights exercise given that he was at one point an elite level endurance swimmer with metabolic syndrome.
Attia overcomplicates the basic need for exercise. For the average person just do some push and pull exercises twice per wk. with some leg work such as Bulgarian split squats with dumbbells. Jog once per wk. with a little sprint work. Get plenty of sleep and eat a low carb, high animal protein high saturated fat diet. Try to keep stress down. Thats as good as you can do to get the best result possible.
You had me until you suggest a high saturated fat diet
