  • The corrupted policeman seemingly kills Roman (Samuel L. Jackson) and offers to destroy the evidence in return for a cut of Frost's (Ron Rifkin) take. He agrees but when he exits the house, he discovers that Roman is just wounded and that he used a microphone to broadcast his confession to the police.

      And they understood why he did what he did. Even his own lawyer thought he did it. All he had was his wife and an alleged dirty cop being sent to prison was a death sentence. He even tried to save the rat Niebaum and even felt remorseful for his death, he hated him and was bait but he needed him to get to the truth. Niebaum took the money and forced himself to believe it was Roman’s fault because if he put the report in, he’d meet the same fate as Nate and he ultimately did. All that death because a bunch of greedy dirty cops tried to get away with stealing from their fellow officers and setting up the most stubborn and aggressive and bravest of their unit to take the fall. Maybe in their pathetic minds they thought they were doing him a favor since it looked like he had a death wish and didn’t care despite the fact he’s newlywed when he was merely doing his job. Ironically, Frost's own lawyers could have demanded Beck be charged with assault with a deadly weapon for shooting Frost after he had turned the gun on himself.
      Beck's statement in front of witnessing officers "You are not getting off that easy" could be used as evidence that Beck shot him Frost to
      prevent his own suicide.

  • @orangefox1231
    @orangefox1231 2 года назад +51

    There is a magnificent art in directing that's understated imo and that's when the director uses time between dialogue to survey and chart the emotional reactions of the actors. This director magnificently did that. @2:35 just as Frost is lying his ass off and then the jig is up and we get to see the mindset of every single cop on the lawn. The chief's look conveying, "Do I look that stupid to you?" combined with "You're not fooling anyone anymore you piece of shit," to Beck's reaction which looks to me like a mixture of remorse wrongfully accusing a colleague who saw him as his friend that's blended with surprise at the man who he thought had been a hostage was the real murderer this entire time then Frost's fear as he sees Hellman and Argento being arrested. Then Farley's "How could you do this expression?" and the spotter's suppressed anger right back to the chief's same look of disgust.
    All of this to me isn't just scenes in a film. It's music I'm seeing with my eyes instead of hearing with my ears and each frame is so poignant and emits a powerful sensation as I sense each emotion, each reaction, each character. Then it has a perfect out of nowhere stanza of power when Beck doesn't hesitate, his rage fired with the bullet at Nate's murderer and Danny's betrayor followed by the suppressed but firm vow that Frost won't get off that easy. This scene is absolutely perfect in every way.

    Beck acted as if he hated Danny, for being such a good HBT. What got to me is not one of them even considered the fact he could have been set up. It was like they were so sure he did it. The only reason I think Palermo didn’t shoot Danny was because Danny had saved his life once before. Plus they all went against hostage tactics, because they are supposed to try and negotiate as long as possible with the hostage taker before they do a full breech and they didn’t do that.

      It is illegal.Danny would have to be arrested and booked for that alleged crime. However, the decision to charge him or not is on the DA
      (or US Attorney in this case since it was a Federal building) who would likley not charge him in exchange for testifying in court to expose a major police corruption ring that murdered a police officer.
      The innocent civilians taken hostage could still file lawsuits against the Federal government and City of Chicago for their kidnapping.

      @@TheLAGopherI could see that realistically happening if the story went that far, but them leaving Danny out of it since he actually went out of his way to take care of them while they were held up

    Maybe it is just because I am a computer nerd, but I hated how they "destroyed" the evidence. All they did was make it harder to acquire. The magnetic disks for the 3.5mm floppy disk would just need a new container and he didn't even shoot the hard drive in the computer.

    • @pmontyjaaaymes488

      They didnt even have the evidence. It was just floppy disk. They didnt need the evidnece bc they had the confession from frost. It was a bluff. They been bluffing all night and Frost still fail for it. Lol.
