    I think the fastest loser rule was good enough.No need to over do with repechage rounds. Someone coming from a repechage round would have run an extra round over a distance longer than 200 m, which put the athlete at a disadvantage from running an extra round. So the finals would be run on an uneven playing field, with the repechage round entry.

      I agree. I low-key feel they should just bring back the 4 rounds, but maybe for the shorter distances like under 800m.
      But hey I know a lot of athletes wouldn't like that

      Shericka Jackson would have loved the opportunity to run a repechage round in the 200m at the 2020ne Tokyo Olympics.

    The change was not needed, they should have left it alone. It's unfair to the athletes in groups with the toughest runners. While others could be in weaker groups and don't have to expell as much energy.

    Anderson Emerole right away pointed to Shericka and her "mental blunder" back in 2020 at Tokyo as a primary example of how a repechage round might be beneficial. I think he makes a good point ,especially with that example , but it is the athlete's responsibility to be ready. Should an athlete get a second chance because they got caught snoozing? And something like the 1500 is a tactical race. Should a runner get a second chance to regroup and rethink their tactics just because they got out maneuvered the first time around ? Wasn't it their job not to get out maneuvered in the first place?

    This repechage might actually make the competition worse because those athletes will be running an extra round and by default prone to more fatigue/injury.

    I see nothing unfair for any athletes. It will push athletes to run harder in the first round to make the top three. You don't make the top three, then you run an extra round.

    One of the things I didnt like about automatically qualifying by time is that there are different wind readings. So if during a semi, one race has a +1.6 wind and the other semi race had a -1.9 wind, then the athlete with the +1.6 wind has a better advantage to run a faster time. We've seen this happen time and time again and its not fair. So I welcome the change. However, there are disadvantages to this. I believe every athlete should run the same amount of rounds. Not some 3 and some 4. Some athletes might have tougher heats while some have easier heats. Its never gonna be a perfect system. Lets just see how things unfolds.

      Do you think the 4 rounds system that occurred years ago was fairer than the repachage or the fastest losers?

    • @6ixboss608
      @6ixboss608 2 месяца назад +1

      @sweetangelplus I prefer 3 rounds 100%. 4 rounds was ridiculous.

    The fact that the 100m, the blue ribbon event is exempted speaks volume to me. If this system is soo good why the exemption?
    I am going to do some reading on this, but immediately my mind goes to the false start rule since second chances are now a thing

    • @ThunderJuice

      The 100m already has a preliminary round.

    • @mellog2238
      @mellog2238 2 месяца назад

      @@ThunderJuice I'm aware of that. My question is it equivalent to the repechage since only the slower athletes participate in the Preliminaries and most don't make it to the second round.
      Prior to doing some reading I thought the repechage would be used to decide the finalists, primarily because it was being said it would have benefited Shericka 2020. The repechage is used however to determine the semifinalist and wouldn't have helped Jacko. From my understanding the fastest athletes will still run only 3 rounds; so it is much ado about nothing

    Coach, how are athletes advancing out of the repechage round? Is it based on placement, as in 1st and 2nd in each repechage heat or is it based on the best overall times in all the repechage heats?

  • @andreagreensorde5573

    This rule would have benefitted Jacko in 2021. I like this rule because athletes are human and may make an error in the first attempt.

  • @jolinecharlton2795

    the problem is that people will run all out making the finals slower in most cases - plus the time qualifiers will now have to run again and be tired for the semis...thats ridiculous when you look at the schedule...new isn't the problem...its the fitness and injuries - they would need to put extra days in the schedule...and why not test this at the world championships before you throw it out at the olympics

    • @Track.Monkey
      @Track.Monkey 2 месяца назад

      How will this result in slower times in the Finals when those top class athletes who win their 1st round heat will have a rest day for the repechage round prior to the semi-finals?

    No sah, dont like it. I prefer the fastest times going through. Running another round might put that person at a disadvantage if they make it through the repechage round.

    In my views it's nonsense, foolishness moreover it's unfair for Athletes to ran their race and place first and second maybe not in a very fast time base on the heat that they were in and other Athletes who get an advantage to out do those athletes it's rubbish 🗑 madness 😠
