He was angry that the cast didn't help support Hilary while the election was going on. He wasn't talking to any of his cast mates which made things awkward and he left. He didn't leave because of the emoji movie that would be stupid
Claucio Xavier - No. These guys were destined to fail spectacularly. The ending was perfect, except for Big Head becoming president of Stanford, that part was stupid.
I mean it was good without him too, but something was missing, and he was 100% right in what he said in other places when leaving the show, which is that it did use the "we solved a problem and that caused a bigger problem" formula over and over again, and never really stopped using it. He just overestimated how bad of a weakness it was for the show.
True that. They tried really hard to fill that void by increasing the banter between Dinesh and Gilfoyle and showing us a different side of Jared but it just didn't work out to fill Erlich's void.
@Tyler I feel like they should have utilized Russ Hannaman more with Erlich gone. They needed someone to be inept and create issues in the company, and without Erlich being there to do it, Richard ended up assuming the role. He would always make smaller mistakes, but nothing compared to the mistakes he was making every single episode of season 5. TJ Miller definitely fulfilled a role in that show. I don’t know how they could implement Russ into the show as the one making mistakes, but maybe they could have changed the dynamic where Pied Pipers flaws were coming from the arrogance of the V.C. And not from within the company itself. Something similar to when Laurie fired Richard as CEO and appointed Jack Barker in his place
@growlingbehemoth Not a fact. He got fired off SV for the same reason he lost his role in the Deadpool franchise: Producers, directors and actors got tired of dealing with him.
@growlingbehemoth I don't know him. I only know what I've been told from people who have worked on productions on which Mr. Miller worked. I've been told that he's a bit of a diva and that he bullies the people around him. I've been told that he has problem with alcohol and other substances that make it difficult to work with him. I have no idea if any of that is actually true, but recent events (him getting fired from SV, Deadpool, How to train your Dragon, being arrested for making a bomb threat while intoxicated) seen to support the rumors.
My husband recommended me to watch 'Silicon valley', and I started watching it in the lockdown. He was rewatching with me. I was just binge watching and did not google anything, cause I did not want to get any spoiler. From the beginning of season 5, every episode I waited for Erlich to comeback, until the very last episode. I kept asking my husband "When is Erlich coming back?". Every time he replied with a grin "just keep watching". So I was pretty sure that he would come back, at least for the final episode, just like Michael Scott in the office. But the never did. So it was such a gut punch for me when the show ended. I was sad for two reasons, ending of a favorite show, and not getting a closer.
Except Carrell left after 7 seasons when the show was a little passed its prime (a decline that wasn't as bad as season 8 or 9 but still). T.J. Miller is leaving Silicon Valley when the show still is on the up and up. It's a terribly dumb career move. My bet is he's burned some bridges on set due to how eccentric and unpredictable he could be and now has no choice but to leave. What a shame.
They should have let Bachmanity succeed, then have Erlich and Big Head be the VC for Pied Piper. I love Silicon Valley for its humour, but it's frustrating how it doesn't progress
visiblywindy life always breeds conflict and the comedy of the show always strictly came from the characters themselves so saying their success would limit comedic opportunities is a bad excuse
Not that the series is entirely realistic, but making Bachmanity succeed has to be the most retarded and unrealistic event if they put it on the show. Someone as stupid and smug as Bachmann could not possibly make a business plan come to fruition. That's the point of his character.
NeonTime life does breed conflict. However the main point to Richard is that nothing works for him and his constant struggle. It adds lots of comedic effect from stress etc. That's why stuff doesn't seen to progress.
Clearly he didn't leave the show because it was 'convenient' and 'funny' Every time he talks about it about it you can see it on his face, and hear it in his voice - He got pushed out of the show.
TJ wanted more money, and he was constantly having "differences in viewpoints" with the writers & producers. Unfortunately for him, as someone pointed out he was "like the 4th best character on the show," which couldn't have helped his negotiations. TJ thought he was going to transcend SilVal by becoming a huge blockbuster movie star. Instead he got buried by the abysmal Emoji Movie.
New reports show he was also showing up to the set intoxicated and sleeping on the clock. He was pretty much erlich on both sides of the camera ... which would be exhausting. And no one who read the script of the emoji movie would quit their day job lol
This show did so well coping with the loss of multiple characters. I think that's part of the reason it's one of the best comedy shows ever. The passing away of Christopher Welch (Peter Gregory) was sad-I looked forward to his character development-but Suzanne Cryer (Laurie Bream) made a worthy and equally eccentric character. Jimmy O. Yang (Jian-Yang) effectively "replacing" Miller made for a hilarious arc, and I wasn't even disappointed with the finale when Miller didn't show. Just like the series as a whole, and life in general, the joke just keeps going, and there's not really a tidy resolution. Excellent show.
Welch dying is sad, but I honestly think Laurie was a better character than Peter would have been. I don't think Jian Yang really was an effective replacement for Erlich, though. Jian Yang is my least favorite character in the entire series. He was okay when he was screwing up by smoking after an anti-smoker pitch or pitching eight recipes about octopus but not as a larger character.
He's got 6 upcoming movies currently in production... I think he'll be alright. Silicon Valley is one of my favourite shows ever, but it's beginning to grow a bit stale. I think he probably left at the right time, just like when Steve Carell left The Office.
What are you talking about. Steve Carell's starred in tons of movies since leaving The Office, he was nominated for an Academy Award for best actor, and nominated in back to back years at the Golden Globes for Best Actor. He is far from a "faceless voice actor", he's got a thriving movie career. TV Shows don't last forever, they get stale after awhile. Leaving Silicon Valley now or in two years from now when its done won't make much of a difference for TJ's career when its all said and done. Actors are real people, if he wants to spend more time with his wife and focus on his movie/stand up career, then so be it.
i probably agree with you, Silicon Valley season 1 & 2 are probably the best, but after that, it really becomes formulaic (as someone mentions it) It still good, but it need some changes if they want to last long Entourage are the best example of it, i got bored after season 3
Idk. I feel like the character was stale. It could have been an artistic choice. I feel like we should be praising him more than questioning. And with the marvel and fox money from deadpool he will be ok
T.J. MILLER seems like the kinda celebrity who in about 10 years would be featured on one of those "why Hollywood wont cast...anymore" sketches by either watchmojo or nicki swift. Not to be mean or anything.
I see where TJ is coming from, but he was pretty much one of the only reasons I kept tuning back in. Yea I am hooked on the plot and the main characters, but Erlich was the meat and gristle of the show. This is The Office all over again.
Katzlund except Tj is the equivalent Kevin. Tj is the only bad part of the show. It'll be way funnier without him. The office without Kevin would be amazing.
Silicon Valley is my number one favorite tv show seen every episode 5 times I did not know about Tj leaving the show until right now very sad but the show will still be great
The story I've heard is that he chose to do it though. Are there other stories going around? Seems like it was his decision...makes sense he would be sad about it too though.
Matt Cr. He brings it up in this interview, but im another, he said the show is now going stale, as it has become quite formulaic: they find great idea, they execute it, something comes up, they scramble to fix the situation.
Samanvay Kumar This is Khaled Khaled actually did his research Khaled doesn't comment without knowing like Samanvay Kumar Khaled is smart Be like Khaled
Yeah i feel the same way. Definitely wasnt my favourite season. Too much chopping and changing, would be nice for something positive to happen to the guys instead of just running into road blocks constantly.
i mean what is the end going to be like? either they get rich or go broke. but im guessing they get rich and live happily every after. i lost interest with this past season. idc anymore.
He didn't get fired. They wanted to bump him down from a main character to guest/recurring like Bighead. Makes sense he didn't wanted to spend four months with his wife, and not in a small role.
Honestly I love TJ's character because there are people like that in real life but with him gone, I would still love the show as much as I do with him. The show is trying to portray the story of these 4 people who are struggling in the world of entrepreneurship and big companies. Now that TJ is gone, I feel something dynamic must take place in the show. The Season 5 trailer looks equally enticing. Can't wait to see the episodes.
I just realized that Silicon Valley had a formula very much like The Office. Both shows started slow, the best part was all the seasons in between, one major character left the show and left the last season kind of boring and bland. Both last episodes were very heartwarming but I wish Erlich had came back like how Michael Scott did. The shows could have ended with a stronger last season but the last episodes kind of made up for them. I think fans of both of these shows can relate, both are great tho 👍 ♥️
That scene in Silicon Valley where Erlich takes a huge bong rip and is coughing all the way through the dialogue in the scene is one of the single greatest scenes in all of comedy. No matter how he jokes about it, the show will NOT be better without him, dammit!
Supposedly the real story is he rubbed the other cast members and creator the wrong way by blasting them for not donating enough money to Hillary's campaign and blamed them for Trump winning. Dude is seriously obsessed with Trump and starting to lose it, a la Shia Lebuf
Yep, apparently the relation wasnt so good with the rest of the cast but during the elections he allegedly harassed the other members for either not donating, or donating enough. I wouldn't be surprised there was a few tensed political discussions, considering the context and tj miller persona, that others didn't want at the time.
He wants to "spend more time with his wife" but do 7-10 stand-up shows a night in New York. Hmmm. Instead of spinning the truth, it would be far easier to just state that Mike Judge let him go because, for whatever reasons, he wasn't carrying his (professional) weight on the set and they'd had enough.
Love TJ! Hope this doesnt end up hurting him in the long run, never a good idea to leave a hit sitcom. But he seems to be doin fine. & Damn 7 sets a nite!
he'll rise again, if that's what he truly wants, him as a person, you can just see he has it in him, wish you nothing, but the best TJ! MADLOVE from JERSEY
Erlich is my favourite Character out of all of them, 2nd being Jing Jang, Then Jarred, I loved the way he expressed himself, this is a sad loss, The show won't be the same without Jing & Erlich praising their app of the year - 10/10 *Not HotDog*
He got fired -- something went down mid-season. Think about it: too much went into him getting the job at Bream-Hall just for him to leave that it after one episode. That was the producer's quick way of removing that storyline and subsequently prepping for his TJ's unexpected exit.
Well we know that he created tension with the other cast because they didn't donate/donate enough and advocated for mrs Clinton. I doubt that alone could make him wanna leave/get asked to leave, but it sure can be the thing that tips it over if the relation wasn't good in the first place.
looks like he's holding something back. Reminds of that scene where Richard talks about Erlich and Pied Piper on TV without knowing that he had sold his shares
Happy birthday T.J. Miller. Love u dude. UR awesome dude. May the Peace be with u. From Harlingen Texas. June 4, 1981 June 4, 2020 through June 4, 3020
Love How Jimmy Tried Real Hard To Talk Him Out Of It & Realize It's a Mistake lol. Cuz I As Well Love his Character in the Show. He Made It 10 Times Funnier
Happy Birthday T.J. Miller. UR awesome dude!! I Love Transformers 4 Age Of Extinction, How To Train Your Dragon, Unstoppable and Yogi Bear. Pretty awesome... seen Unstoppable since in Highschool, 2010 or 2011. May the Peace be with u man. From Harlingen Texas. June 4, 1981 June 4, 2021 through June 4, 3021
I think it was. His character doesn't code or do any tangible work. Pied Piper already is backed by Laurie's firm and diminished Erlich's role. He was basically Big Head with more confidence and charisma
Hard to think how he can just be out of the show. I know he is stuck in another country using opium and such yet hard to think the other guys would just accept that he disappeared looking for Gavin Belson. Even if they are distracted with Pied Piper, no one would just accept a friend disappeared. Looking forward to seeing how they lay this out.
Acc. To me...this character was the best of all!!! I mean the confidence and his way of talking and guts is i mean they are really unexpressably good....and that chemistry bw him and jin yang💯💯💯💯💯 i wanted him!!!😔
Miller leaving a great, emmy-nominated show for a movie about emojis is the most Erlich Bachman move ever.
My God . . . this will one day turn out to be the sanest and most accurate comment in RUclips history.
jian yang is laughing at him right now.
Bravo sir.
savage!!!
He was angry that the cast didn't help support Hilary while the election was going on. He wasn't talking to any of his cast mates which made things awkward and he left. He didn't leave because of the emoji movie that would be stupid
*leaves Silicon Valley for a kids movie with a 6% rating*
dammit JIAN YAAAAANG
I gues one can say he "pissed in his own car"

Can we all agree that him focusing on the emoji movie is the most Erlich Backman thing to do.
I can hear this comment better than i can read it
who else can ?
He should have showed up in the series finale, damn it.
What a terrible ending, they should have become billionaires
he not deserved it
Finale broke my heart
Right
Claucio Xavier - No. These guys were destined to fail spectacularly. The ending was perfect, except for Big Head becoming president of Stanford, that part was stupid.
They should do a prequel of silicon valley with him on his Aviato days
Definitely!!!
They should also have a cameo of Richard before pied piper happened
I mean it was good without him too, but something was missing, and he was 100% right in what he said in other places when leaving the show, which is that it did use the "we solved a problem and that caused a bigger problem" formula over and over again, and never really stopped using it. He just overestimated how bad of a weakness it was for the show.
wow, that would be amazing....
Jian yang will be happy about this news.
+Augustus “Icon” Freeman thanks man
JIAAAAAAANNN YAAAAAAAAAAAAANG
yeah watch the trailer lol
i watched , soo ? still no bachman

Gotta admit, looking back, it just wasn't the same without him.
It never was ):
True that. They tried really hard to fill that void by increasing the banter between Dinesh and Gilfoyle and showing us a different side of Jared but it just didn't work out to fill Erlich's void.
The show was fine without him.
Nahhh they needed a loud obnoxious guy on that show
@Tyler I feel like they should have utilized Russ Hannaman more with Erlich gone. They needed someone to be inept and create issues in the company, and without Erlich being there to do it, Richard ended up assuming the role. Erlich and Jian Yang had some of the best moments in the entire show. It was their dynamic together which was the thing I missed the most
*He can still return.* Bachmanity can appear out of nothing, if need arises.
He’s the Jewish bat fan
Wow, it's so painfully obvious that Miller is trying to get this conversation to end and it just will not.
Everybody knew that, including Jimmy. Everybody.
Good.

T.J. Miller, this is you as an old man. I'm ugly and I'm dead. Alone.

Big mistake.... That role is amazing. he is amazing
rickjames21 he got fired. They wrote him off the show because of his non stop shilling for hillary
@growlingbehemoth Not a fact. He got fired off SV for the same reason he lost his role in the Deadpool franchise: Producers, directors and actors got tired of dealing with him.

Same. Lol
Also sad that your husband lied to you for no reason.
The biggest loss to a comedy show since Carell in The Office.
Enrico D. Season 8 and 9 didn't feel right
Yeah, the Office is legandary and Michael Scott legendarier, but it's kinda good parallel, it was shitty back then, it is shitty now...
Except Carrell left after 7 seasons when the show was a little passed its prime (a decline that wasn't as bad as season 8 or 9 but still). T.J. Lol @ Jimmy not letting go. Seems that T.J. actually wished Kimmel wouldn't talk about it.
Yeah... I thought that was pretty clear too. Shouldn't abuse your guests like that.
Word, T.J. gives an open honest response about wanting to spend time with his family, but 5 year old Jimmy Kimmel doesn't get what he wants.
Its cause he was kicked off the show for being drunk and abusive.
I seriously don't think that answer was either open nor honest. It's pretty clear it's not just that.
That's what I read doug
Clearly he didn't leave the show because it was 'convenient' and 'funny'
Every time he talks about it about it you can see it on his face, and hear it in his voice - He got pushed out of the show.

I love TJ, but Erlich is probably the 4th best character on that amazing show. That sounds like an insult, but the top-3 are all remarkable.
Actually it's Gilfoyle and Dinesh that make the show. It's their banter.
but isn't gristle...bad?
Silicon Valley is my number one favorite tv show seen every episode 5 times I did not know about Tj leaving the show until right now very sad but the show will still be great

laubredelcosmos Alec Berg is the dude he has beef with. He used to also write for Seinfeld before he started drama with TJ.

Well, obviously the Emoji Movie is the smart choice here
lol yea we all see how that turned out
lol its almost fitting of his character
The moment you realize Errich Bachmen is actually just a smarter version of his actual self
Seems like you missed his humor here
His wife basically told him it's me or show. He chose her.
*cracks whip*
have u seen how hot his wife is tho
Supposedly the real story is he rubbed the other cast members and creator the wrong way by blasting them for not donating enough money to Hillary's campaign and blamed them for Trump winning. Dude is seriously obsessed with Trump and starting to lose it, a la Shia Lebuf
That sounds like some r/The_Donald cucky bullshit if I've ever heard it.
lol he crazy if this is true
He really was one of the many memorable characters of Silicon Valley and it really sucked that he had issues with his co-workers.
everytime he say have you seen the emoji movie... it reminds me of ... i own 10% of Pied Piper.
For everyone not aware, there were quite a few things about him that came out right after this interview.
He was my favorite character on Silicon Valley
The stuff TJ does is all about his voice... Should have stayed on a very well written show and made them create MORE episodes!
I met T.j at tourneau by Bryant park. Great guy! He took the time out and showed me his Rolex hulk and spoke about his latest projects. Great dude.
I've always admired his hulk. any story on it?
@@NaturalDiversity T.J was just picking up his hulk from service. Great guy! He also took a selfish for us. As per T.J.
if the human EGO had 2 arms and 2 legs
it would act like this guy
He got fired -- something went down mid-season. Think about it: too much went into him getting the job at Bream-Hall just for him to leave that it after one episode. That was the producer's quick way of removing that storyline and subsequently prepping for his TJ's unexpected exit.
maybe mid season he told producers suddenly that he wants out next season so they could prepare his story. but i agree, does seem a little fishy
Well we know that he created tension with the other cast because they didn't donate/donate enough and advocated for mrs Clinton. I doubt that alone could make him wanna leave/get asked to leave, but it sure can be the thing that tips it over if the relation wasn't good in the first place.
JIIannnnn YANGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just hope they keep Russ Hanneman. Dude rules!
He's obviously pissed Kimmel brought it up even though he asked him not to before the show. Fans deserve an honest answer.
decentradical I think he was joking about not wanting to talk about it.
decentradical Also fans don't "deserve" anything from him. He is an entertainer so he owes you entertainment not a look into his private life.
I think he wanted us to think was joking about it. Take a look at the other interviews he did about his departure. They're even more evasive.
Chris Cummings yeah, this idea of a right way to be famous is total trash.
“Eric Bachman, This is your mom and you are not my baby.”
Dang I wish I lived in NY. TJ Miller would be the coolest friend.
Erlich Bachman plays TJ Miller extremely well
I was waiting till the last episode i had hope that he'll come back from china .😭 He was the one of the reason that people liked silicon valley
looks like he's holding something back. Reminds of that scene where Richard talks about Erlich and Pied Piper on TV without knowing that he had sold his shares
"Eric bachman, is your refrigerator running? This is Mike hunt."
"Yes, helo this is Erich Bloackmann. Dere is a blom on a train in a new york..."
Happy birthday T.J. Miller. Love u dude. UR awesome dude. May the Peace be with u. From Harlingen Texas. June 4, 1981

3:28 "Erlich Bachman; this is you as an old man. Your sad and lonely and you have no friends." -Jian Yang
Very true to his character this guy radiates confidence.
I just keep hearing Tuffnut from How to train your dragon 😂😂😭😭💀
After the Movie gets Released
"Erich Bach-man this is your Mom...you're not my SON, u embarras me"
“What if I told you there’s an app on the market…”
Noooooo. Erlich was like the 4th best character on Silicon Valley.
Behind Richard, Jared, and Jian Yang
Tim Dev Yea. Maybe Gilfoyle instead of Richard. But Definitely Jared.
James Horn Gilfoyle, Erlich, and Jian Yang
he was the funniest
Jared was by far the funniest last season.
His character on SV just became more irrelevant as the show went on. I want more Gavin Belson, the most recent season was my favorite,
Love How Jimmy Tried Real Hard To Talk Him Out Of It & Realize It's a Mistake lol. Cuz I As Well Love his Character in the Show. He Made It 10 Times Funnier
You Dont Need Capital Letter At The Start Of Every Word /Facepalm
ostegrillFTW Haha Does That Bother You For Some Reason Stranger?? 😂 Cuz I Like It. Makes My Comments Stand Out 😏
It's cringy
Rodrigo Casilao Your Thumbnail Picture Is Cringy 😫😖😂
Keith Perez See If I Wrote a Comment Like That, That Would Definitely Be Something To Troll About 😉
He left Silicon Valley, just like many are leaving “Silicon Valley”
"Have you seen the emoji movie?"
imdb: 3.3/10
The producers probably found out about the sexual assault allegations and fired him.
dkgong that’s entirely possible
I was and I am still sad how can you leave us, your silicone valley 😥😢😰😓
Cuz he likes to get a little too touchy touchy
I love you in “How to train your dragon” I binge watch those episodes.
You can just tell whenever Jimmy mentions him quitting the show how upset TJ looks- he gets visibly uncomfortable. He was fired :(
Give your notice, or we will fire you. Something tells me he was ahead of these allegations before it became news.
Yea it made this interview awkward as balls to watch.
yeah it did
Happy Birthday T.J. June 4, 1981
June 4, 2021 through June 4, 3021
"Organic" ,I don't think so.
I think it was. His character doesn't code or do any tangible work. Pied Piper already is backed by Laurie's firm and diminished Erlich's role. He was basically Big Head with more confidence and charisma
That's not what organic means here. Having the character travel to Nepal and stay in an opium den, is by no means organic.
"It's a problem you think we need to explain ourselves"
-Erlich Bachman with some good advice here
Dumbest carrier decision.
N hoss so he left silicon valley AND changed to Verizon???
it wasn't his decision. He got fired.
aircraft carrier?
@Michael Baker Maybe He legitimately meant it to be Carrier, AT&T sucked and Pied Piper was going downhill.
His expressions are like just telling Jimmy that shut TF about Silicon Valley and just let me promote Emoji movie...
Hard to think how he can just be out of the show. I know he is stuck in another country using opium and such yet hard to think the other guys would just accept that he disappeared looking for Gavin Belson.
Even if they are distracted with Pied Piper, no one would just accept a friend disappeared. Looking forward to seeing how they lay this out.
turns out they did just accept it
Was ridiculously glossed over

I know right... wtf
Jin Yng - " Erlich, come back"
Erlich - "Go back into ur room"
Acc. To me...this character was the best of all!!! I mean the confidence and his way of talking and guts is i mean they are really unexpressably good....and that chemistry bw him and jin yang💯💯💯💯💯 i wanted him!!!😔
