- Video Intro: Dr. Russ wants all the multishot air gun owners to know all the difference when comparing Gamo’s 10X Swarm air rifles, including the generation changes, as well as the first generation of Crosman’s Magfire and Hatsan’s Speedfire air rifles. The 3 largest air gun manufacturers have decided to compete in this very big multishot market of break barrel rifles. Drs. Russ and Paula have spent hours researching the different features of these break barrel air rifles, along with their costs. Today, they provide a spread sheet of information that will help buyers understand the differences between Crosman’s and Hatsan’s popular multishot, break barrel air guns. #gamo #crosman #hatsan

Ken Fan ... thanks for the greetings this beautiful fall day ... it appears that our short Indian Summer is coming to an end in Michigan ... with cooler forecast starting tomorrow. Our schedule for future videos continue thru all four seasons ... with strong winds being our worst enemy.... not just for affecting accuracy, but wind affects the audio portion of our videos too. Of course, cold affects women more than men ... even though I often provide Dr. Paula with heat packs in all of her pockets. God Bless your family too. Dr. Russ

Dr.Russ! Your videos are fantastic! I have learned a lot,I’m buying a crossman-mag-fire! It looks like a great hunting and plinking gun,I can’t wait to start shooting all the “Explosive reactive targets!” That I just bought! I love the “Big-bang!” Noises, their very realistic! I just love blowing stuff up! And safety is always first with me too!

And I just bought one of those new”MCK!” Conversion kits for my smith and Wesson mini-9mm pistol! It’s the most amazing thing to come out in a very long time! Their so well built! And they come in every color of the rainbow too! But,I always have to have the o.d. Green colored! Their just amazing if you haven’t seen them yet and you have a sidearm, you just have to order yourself one! Their only $289.00 And to have a pistol and a carbine in the same gun,is just to cool!

Hi Dr. Russ, Just picked up a FX Impact in 25 caliber and the second mag cost 70 bucks!
Getting back into airguns after taking some time off and I'm having fun again.
Thanks for the video, Talk soon, Rick
Rick ... so glad to see you back in the game.... You own FX's most desired air gun ... The Impact ... and I know you will enjoy in the 25 caliber ... I own two FX air guns ... the FX Continuum which comes with two different length barrels ... both in 25 caliber .... and the FX Dream Tact in 30 caliber ... which should be here next week... FX continues to win most air rifle competition... and their barrels are second to none. Please share you experiences once you break it in.... Dr. Russ
Nice comparison! Thank you!
Dow Hurst ... it is good to hear from you .. please keep us in your loop of air gun experiences and info... Thanks for the compliment ... Dr. Russ
Umarex also now has a break barrel 12 shot magazine airgun. I just purchased one which is keeping my Swarm company. So far it seems like a pretty good gun. It comes with open fiber optic sights and a see through mount with a scope. It is called the Emerge. In terms of power it seems to lie somewhere in between the gamo maxxum and the magnum. And pruce wise it is about between the same two guns..
Chuckle ... it is good to hear from you and thanks for the info... Dr. Russ

I could not find that scope on the Bone Collector on their site. Been wanting that one for a long time.
75 Deal Breakers with a < 20" barrel minimum being your number one pet peeve? I saw your "man cave" in the air compressor fix video tutorial (where the lovely Dr. Paula busted you 😂) that you made awhile back. The endless supply of rifles you own (which were JUST the ones we could see in the video..lol) surely don't all have 20"+ barrels....haha. Just kidding here Dr. Russ, just poking some fun at ya my friend.... as I know you have an awesome overwhelming passion and desire of testing and teaching about AG's and then letting the rest of us know your thoughts and professional opinions. MUCH APPRECIATED, Sir!!!! On a side note, I'll be honest, I have personally steered away from GAMO AG's (some of my older Crosman's do like their pellets thought, especially my old .22 Crosman Shockwave break barrel and the Crosman .177 AR platform DPMS Panther Arms break barrel which they no longer make) for the very reason you pointed out in this new video of yours. There are just WAY too many GAMO rifle options, in my humble opinion, to even remotely narrow down which one I would even consider purchasing if I chose to do so. Anyway...... GREAT video and comparison on the Crosman and Hatsans. Being a Crosman fan for most of my life, simply because they were about the only ones I could get my hands on as a youngster, I am still very fond of them. Not related here, but I did recently purchase a gorgeous brand new in the box, .22 Beeman AR2078 wood stock (co2), with the older style awesome thumb hole cut out, and have completely fallen in love with it. It is ridiculously accurate from 20 meters and closer (I plan on doing some mods though...hehehe). Great new addition to my collection for sure. It's my first co2 power plant AG and I was utterly dumbfounded at how quite, and ZERO recoil, this the thing has. Sorry for getting so long winded, I just love your videos.........Yet another great video here and please keep them coming Doc!!!!!!👍👍
G A's Adventures ... I enjoy my Crosmans too ... and probably 6 of my 41 airguns have barrels less than 20 inches long. Beemans make great air guns ... I maybe interviewing them for a video during the first quarter in 2023 ... I believe they are head quartered in Rogers City, Arkansas near Daisy and several others. Please stay in touch and keep us in your air gun loop ... especially breaking in that Beeman ... Dr. Russ

This video is incredibly informative, thank you! You answered a question early on in the videos that I asked just this morning about whether or not small game can be killed humanely with a .22 cal, or if I would have to go to the .25. Cal (for me, it’s mainly rodents in the garden and burrowing in around the foundation). So, I guess I will be purchasing a .25 cal break-barrel instead of the .22! It’s a shame because I really like the mag feature that doesn’t seem to be available on the .25 break barrels I have seen so far; but, a humane kill is more important to me.
Finally - love the knife collection!! I’d watch a 3 hour video on that! Some very interesting pieces in that case.
Thank you for another informative video.
Thanks for the info! I’ll check it out.
@@xdmc005 Good ... keep us in your air gun loop.... Dr. Russ
A .22 break barrel is quite suitable for most pests if you can shoot it well.
I've taken 2 raccoons with a Crossman break barrel that makes 16.5 ft.lbs. using 14.3 pellets. The key is to wait for an appropriate shot and practice so that you can make it.
The raccoons were both head shots that dropped them immediately. Smaller pests like chipmunks dispatch humanely with a solid upper body or head shot from most any .22.
Squirrels can be pretty tough. A clean head or solid upper body shot, that you are confident you can make, and a .22 will do fine.
The toughest critter you might encounter, in my opinion, is a groundhog. They are also the most weary. You will not get a shot at less than 50 yds. Unless you can make a headshot at 50 yds., you may need a .25 or .30 cal. and it will still take a good shot.
I've taken a groundhog at 67 yds with a .22 PCP making 27 ft.lbs. It is zeroed at 50 and I was pretty confident of the holdover. He didn't take a step.
One thing to remember is that above .22 caliber the sound can go up dramatically.
Larger calibers can often carry further and have more energy when they get there. Consider your neighborhood.
You can take most pests with 22 but you owe it to them to practice first. If you can hit what you're shooting at, a .22 works fine for most pests.
@@rickhofsess84 ... thanks for sharing... I agree completely.... Ground Hogs are actually tougher than coyotes and fox in my opinion. That hide is thick and tough. I usually reach for a 30 or 357 when I see one in the backyard. A silencer is also required in my neighborhood... and they are wary ... often only allowing a 65 to 85 yard shop. Even when they are closer, I reach for a large bore air rifle... for the humane kill. Please stay in touch ... I thought I was reading one of my own responses ... when reading yours... DR. Russ

I'd so love to go out and shoot with my Gen2 Magnum. Sadly, in Europe we don't have it as good as you do in the states when it comes to customer support. Being 5 countries away from Spain, it's hard to get any support, really. I sent out my Magnum for repairs about 2 months ago with no word from anyone down the chain. Gamo-USA does a good job with warranty and non-warranty problems. I had a non- warranty problem and the fee was reasonable. Ended up with a new gun. Don’t let that barrel slip out of the hand while cocking the gun.🤦🏼♂️

I tried the laminated scope when they first came out and lost a deer because with the lighted retical I couldn't see the deer at low light. I think they may have fixed this problem? But I really appreciate your reviews because I'm in the market for at least one new air rifle. You've answered some questions I had ... think I'm going to start with a break barrel in 22. Because most of my hunting here is small game.
Don Scott ... it is good to hear from you again... please keep us in your air gun info loop of experiences and hunting. Be careful in getting a break barrel that has both fixed sights and scope... because many only come with a scope. I believe your former problem with a scope has been over come with a dial on the scope that can brighten or lessen the colored retical... Dr. Russ
@@russjones6497 your videos have helped me a lot. I'm reconsidering buying a break/ barrel and getting a psp that I can turn way down... where I currently live there's very little big game unless you hunt alligators lol .but I travel and out of state I almost always hunt big game. I like the 357 but also consider the. 30... thanks for all the non-biased info ...
Of the three, which is the quietest in .22? Which is the most reliable? Nothing else matters if it won't shoot!
Solarsynapse ... it is good to hear from you. The noise is greater when the velocity of the pellet is greater... so regardless of the gun ... it will make more noise as you use lighter pellets which travel faster. I too believe that accuracy is extremely important... so I use the heaviest pellets possible ... not only slowing the velocity and sound down... but improving accuracy. I have found that anything over 1000 fps is noisy and has large groups. Dr. Russ

Thanks again, The problem I'm having its a chinese rifle with a 12.7mm rail and all the dovetail to picatinny adapters in the market are for 11mm. So when mounted it's not perfectly aligned, it goes to one side.
Surrender Park ... sorry to hear that. Its possible that the Chinese rail is mounted incorrectly. Try to remount your picatinny adapters but be sure to continually switch from one screw to another a single turn so that the adapter is being put on correctly. Also try from one end of the Chinese rail to the other to see if there is a difference. Secondly, go ahead and mount it unaligned ... but put some postage stamp size pieces of a plastic big gulp (or whatever) onto one side of the circular scope mounts so that the rear part of the scope is pushed to one side and another on the front mount pushing the front of the scope to the other side. Hopefully, these two shims will align the scope better than it was ... and then align the cross hairs correctly. Dr. Russ

Hi i am in the UK and our limit on power is 12 fpe .I recently bought a Remington XGP in .177 .its a gas ram and should produce at least 11.5 fpe .It struggles to put out 10 fpe ,that's after leading in and correct lubrication .Have you any resources to find out if the gas ram is under any pre compression as i would like to take it down to check the piston seal . Thanks for any reply you can give .
David ... it is my belief that all piston air rifles are under no pre-compression of air ... but I know that they can have some pre spring compression ... and a specific tool is needed to get it back together.... I would leave that piston alone ... and work on making your barrel more smooth... be sure and check out our latest video that covers polishing your barrels rifling... Dr.Russ

Rick ... my bone collector and its scope ... plus heavy pellets ... is very accurate out to 75 yards. My scope from CV Life is a great bargain at $85... which includes the red dot for critters that are moving ... and laser for home defense.... but you will need to order a picatinny rail conversion off of eBay for under 10 dollars... this conversion allows you to connect the CV Life scope with a 20 mm picatinny rail to the bone collector which has an 11 mm picatinny rail. I stopped reading through the large number of replies seeking the specific "CV Life" scope model that you are directly or indirectly promoting for our Gamo Maxxim .22 air rifles that you've reviewed in an effort to find the model you noted because the CV Life website is not specific to an 11MM mount. What model worked for you??
David .. forgive me for not being more specific ... I change up scopes frequently, having more air rifles and powder rifles than scopes. I believe the very best are ranked in the following order, remembering that with a break barrel, you want a shorter scope: 1.) CVLife 4x16 x50 Tactical Rifle Scope with Red & Green Dot Sight (4 1/2 stars) $ 109,99, 2.) CVLife 3x9 x 32 4 in 1 Scope Combo with Dual Illuminated AR Scope Red Dot Sight $98.99 3.) CVLife 2.5 - 10e Red & Green Illuminated Scope $ 61.59, CVLife 3 - 9x40 Rifle Scope Red & Green Illuminated Optical Scope $ 30.99. David keep in mind that I believe that all of these scopes come with scope rings that are made for 20 mm mounts. You will find the proper converter when you click "Accessories" at the top of the page. CVLife Dovetail to Picatinny Rail Adapter 11 mm to 20 mm Rail Adapter $ 10.99. Be sure and mark on your order "Russ15" to gain a 15% discount on your order for your viewers. I have found that their equipment is very well built and about half or more cheaper than what we find in the market place. Prior to this, I purchased a few scopes from Fieldsupply.com that were well priced, if you ordered "refurbished CP (Crosman) or Hatsan scopes there. Please I have one question :
If I want to buy only one air rifle for hunting (small birdes pegeon, turkey..... ) and some pest control , what do you think if I buy the .177 1200 fps and if I need to use it like .22 I will use heavy pellets ( grams ) ?

jcdupuy ... I could not determine the third generation to be better than the 2nd ... nor could I determine that their magazines were better either... Hello Dr. Russ, Great Videos, I have Crosman extreme (22) and Gamo fusion mach 1 (22), I can say both have a nice kick but the Crosman quality is a bit low vs Gamo on the plastic side.
So I have 2 questions if I may:
1. when it come to the gun recoil, Both rifles have a kick but I can feel it much stronger int he Gamo, Any pointers regarding both rifles on shooting and aiming on targets 30-50 FT ? without the recoil messing with the aim ?
2.long term usage with break barrel and magazine, in your opinion over time those magazine will break apart because of the plastic components ?
Great questions amirlogico .... Allow me to answer them and some that you did not ask. I believe that the most important aspect of any air gun is accuracy. You need to determine that first. The kick of any 22 caliber break barrel is acceptable to me ... a slip over butt pad is available at most gun stores... to help with kick. Recoil messing with aim is zero ... if you practice the artillery hold ... which minimizes any input from you and allows any break barrel to move backward and forward as it wants to.... I dont have a clue on which magazines will wear out first. All magazines of air guns $1,000 and below are made of plastic. Its best to have two magazines, knowing one will give you trouble sooner or later. Lastly, I believe (with no one paying me any money to say what I say) that Crosman has a better warranty than Gamo ... and that they are quicker to fix and return air guns that are having problems. We are currently preparing a video to be launched later next week that will discuss what you can do about the rifling in any air gun's barrel to make it more accurate ... and with a higher velocity.... Dr. Russ

Dr Russ, I am looking at buying a couple more low budget break barrel air rifles. Hatsan USA have some nice prices on refurbished. How does Hatsan stand up to Gamo and Crosman? I have a Gamo, a couple Crosman and Beeman but I have never owned or used a Hatsan. Do you recommend Hatsan. Love your videos!
I was pretty vague in my last post. I am returning a Beeman Grizzly dual caliber. It had issues and so I am replacing it with 2 separate air rifles. I do like your suggestion of getting different calibers for my collection all mine are .177 and the Beeman was my only .22. While I love the CV Life scopes, I had to go to eBay and purchase the picatinny rail that converts 20mm to 11 mm.... fortunately they weren't expensive and at least 4 different ones to chose from..... and I believe the scopes are the best value I have found... Dr. Russ
@@russjones6497 Thank you for the help. I found bother weaver and picatinny rail conversions. I think that just opened up a whole new world for me! God bless.
@@adamlawrence3427 Good Adam... keep us in your air gun experiences loop ... Dr. Russ
Hi Dr. Russ. you do use the gamo antirecoil rail adapter on every rifle or it just looks like that?
Surrender ... thanks for responding... On most Gamo's that I have placed a scope on ... I continue to use the existing Gamo rail, plus a conversion rail that lets me upgrade to scopes that require a 20 mm picatinny rail versus the Gamo 10mm rail. While I enjoy Gamo air rifles and pistols, I absolutely have a poor rating for their plastic scopes. Dr. Russ
@@russjones6497Ok,.Thank you so much. It's a pleasure to watch your videos.
A good airgun scope is the swfa 10x42.
True ... thanks for sharing... Dr. Russ
That’s a lot of knives. What’s your secret? My wife would be going nuts although I do have quite a few handguns and she doesn’t complain. Did you make that display case yourself? Nice! 😊
There is an old story about that knife collection, I will include in one of our videos. Nonetheless, Dr. Paula has discovered that this display case of mine, versus 3 that are used for her collections, have always brought the most attention from visiting guests. Perhaps it is because it is the only knife display cabinet in the world that is found right beyond the front door as you enter our foyer. I too have a gun collection that she puts up with... as long as it remains locked up and secure from all 15 of our grandkids. Wives learn how to set up a home from their mothers ... not necessarily the best set up today. The home typically represents who they are ... compared to business cards or cubicles or offices or titles that men cling to. Today, men have claimed some room or a portion of a room for their man caves. Here again is an area that generates a great deal of interest with visiting guests. Live and learn. Dr. Russ
Try OPEN SIGHTS ?
Zdenekoldrichmarek ... good idea ... but as you get older and want to harvest the critter in as few shots as possible... a good scope ... sighted in is a huge help. Dr. Russ
Have you done any shooting with your hatsun? Wondering if it actually has good accuracy even though it has a short barrel. Also is it a 177 or 22?
Gary ... it is a 22 caliber ... and while most break barrels have shorter barrels than most people believe... This air gun is reasonably accurate at 30 yards ... among my guns .. it is almost as accurate as the Crosman and equal to the Gamo.... Dr. Russ
Hi Dr. Russ. Great video as usual. I have a knife collection but nothing like yours. You want to talk clip cost. check out what a clip costs for a day state red or alpha wolf 120 dollars. Just wanted to say hi. God bless you and Dr. Paula. steve
Steven Rowe ... you hit the nail on the head ... I personally believe that magazines provide a great deal of profit to air gun manufacturers. I found an air gun (only one) and it is a good one ... that provides 4 magazines with the gun. I also had a friend, but a spare magazine for an FX ... and it cost $75. Thanks for sharing, and please share some experiences ... especially with that Day State... Dr. Russ
Hello Doc, I have been watching your videos trying to figure out which break barrel 22 cal. AG to buy. And instead of running in circles , I thought Id just ask you. I am looking for the most powerful (FPM) , best accuracy , most quiet air gun on the market under $400. I'm sure a lot of the viewers of your channel probably searching for the same answer. Maybe you could do a video on it sometime. Thanks you have great content in all your videos.
Scotty ... it is good to hear from you .... The Crosman has a better warranty and maintenance history ... maybe a better resale value too. Crosman is using the gen 1 magazine device as is Hatsan ...and yet owners of Gamo Gen 1 are happy with what they have..... while Gamo is using a gen 3 magazine... but extra mags cost a lot more than at Gamo. Please keep us in your air gun info loop ... Dr. Russ
Great video but the biggest deal breaker in my opinion is accuracy.
I realize that accuracy is a very subjective statistic but all the bells and whistles are moot if a gun is inherently inaccurate.
It would be nice if you did an accuracy comparision of these guns.
Paul ... it is good to hear from you ... and I agree. I will be doing that accuracy review soon...weather permitting... Dr. Russ
@@russjones6497 Thank you Sir.
You make honest airgun videos and I appreciate that. Too many of the other RUclips videos are sponsored and are more like commercials. I'm sure some of them are being honest but they are still being influenced a bit even if they don't realize it themselves.
I've got a couple of the Gamo rifles, the magnum and the maxim and they are pretty decent. I've put over five hundred pellets through both of them without a single failure. The scopes do change power settings on their own from the recoil but besides that they are alright and hold their zero so far.
I'm wondering how accurate are these two rifles compared to the gamo guns?
If their power ratings are accurate they must have a slightly more powerful piston than the non magnum gamo guns. I'm guessing that they do since the barrels are so much shorter.
I may be wrong about that though.
I'm looking forward to your next video. 😊
It is good to hear from you Hildolfr Draugadrottin... you have to share with us what ethnic background your name comes from.... I own 3 Gamo air guns including the magnum... the maxxim ... and the bone collector .... plus the crosman magfire.... and they are all good. I personally enjoy the maxxim and the bone collector the most. The magnum required the most testing with heavy pellets ... JSB Heavies ... to get it to calm down and provide tight groups. Dr. Russ
@@russjones6497 Some people have accused me of being a Hitler fan because of my screen name. Nothing could be further from the truth. The world would have been a much better place if there never was a Hitler or Nazis.
I'm Norwegian, German and Sioux and a appreciate the history of my forefathers. Hildolfr Draugadrottin comes from the early Northern European language. It was two of the names they used for Odin.
I've tried probably a half dozen different kind of pellets in my Gamos and they both seem to like the Crosman Premier pellets. They also do well with the H&N 21.14gr Baracuda pellets. I'll eventually use both guns for squirrels and rabbits after we get a hard frost and the trees drop more leaves. I'll reset my scope and switch to the Baracuda pellets for that. I use the Crosman pellets for plinking since they cost less than half of what the Baracuda pellets do.
It's strange but the Baracuda pellets hit a lot higher than the lighter pellets at every distance. I would think it would be the opposite.
Thanks for the reply!😊
@@hildolfrdraugadrottin7279 Hildolf Draugadrottin ... thanks for sharing ... that is an interesting point about the H&N pellets. While I too have great accuracy with Premiers ... the H&N must be going down that barrel a little faster ... maybe they are a hundredth smaller in diameter ... but in my experience, the only way those H&N pellets could travel higher is greater velocity... please stay in touch... Dr. Russ

Thank you for this video. I've been going bonkers doing online comparisons of the Gammo Swarm Magnum and the Crossman Mag-Fire Extreme. The Crossman's short barrel concerns me because I want high accuracy, and I saw a video on the Airgun Channel where cleaning patches got stuck in the Crossman's baffles. But the Crossman's entire suppressor unscrews and cleans easily. Here's a link: ruclips.net/video/gU8gYQqEDUU/видео.htmlsi=Da6-EauE8apFstjr&t=269
Have you had any problems cleaning the Swarm Magnum or Bone Collector? I want high accuracy, but don't want cleaning issues.

Kenny kormandy did a video 9yrs ago that proved the spring lost less power in cold weather than the gas ram I'm pretty sure which makes sense. The pressure in a gas ram will decrease, just like in a pcp, as the temp drops. The spring only looses like 10fps. The gas ram in his video lost like 30fps in the cold.
