Amazing exhibition of the blacksmith's art!
I never knew such things were possible
The music was excellent, and fit the story being told
I learned something today
Thank you
Words cannot express how beautiful that piece is, not to mention the time and skill required to make it. Amazing work.
This might be the most beautiful piece of metal I've ever seen.
This is an exceptional piece. I'm sincerely hope that the ultimate owner of this fine blade realizes the craftsmanship and honors the craftsman with a financial reward fitting the time, labor and love placed within.
The prettiest Damascus pattern I have seen ( can I say pretty pertaining to blades) really though what a dramatic pattern. Well done and take a bow.
the craftsmanship is unparalleled.... absolutely beautiful and functional...
You, sir, have marvelous visions of what a knife should be, as well as the amazing skills required to render those visions in beautiful physical form. Thank you for sharing this.
I've always loved the look of Damascus steel. I'm not a blacksmith in any way, but love watching it being made and I've watched countless RUclips videos on it being made. And I'm always impressed with the way it looks.
But this is beyond anything I've seen so far. There are no words to adequately describe what he's done here. This is easily the most gorgeous Damascus pattern I've ever laid eyes on. This gentleman is truly a master at his craft.
And I too was sad to see so much of this beautiful metal machined away to make this knife. So much waste, but when you see the final product, you understand why it has to be done this way in order to achieve that result
absolutely! this is a definate masterpiece.
+Dark Arts Astrophotography thanks man!
That
Was
Amazing!
A master at his craft,
I have NEVER seen such a beautiful blade in my entire life.
What a masterpiece!
What a beautiful contribution to the world!
tacticaldude Apprentice actually, as the description says. Give him some time and he will I am sure amaze you.
What marvelous examples of beauty and function you create. Thanks for sharing.
I can't believe what lengths you went to to make that knife. It is a treasure now for sure. Great craftsmanship.
Iv'e done a lot of research on making Damascus blades most of which give unique patterns but this by far is the most amazing piece I love it I hope to make something that beautiful
Best damascus i have ever seen! How are you not the most famous bladesmith ever? You blow Jason Knight out of the water. Truly amazing work.
so much work goes into Damascus, but in the end the payoff is grand cause they are beautiful!! nice work man
If Manuel Quiroga Guiraldes is considered an "apprentice" by ABS as it reads in the heading for this video, then I must be the President of the United States. That's amazing work sir.
Absolutely stunning. What a difference the etching makes.
love this guys works with the metal. he's got a real feel for it.
Seeing the final shots. I have to say again. That thing is straight up art. I've never seen a blade so gorgeous. I intend on someday making blades. And that type of patterning is my holy grail to reproduce. And then find an appropriate handle/sheath and it becomes an heirloom. I'm in love with that blade. Seriously, I'd frame it behind magnified glass and mount it to the ceiling above my bed so I can just stare at it, screw counting sheep, I'd trace the patterns to fall asleep
A great blade made by a craftsman. Thank you for the video.
That, my friend is an INSANE damascus. Hats off
Beautiful knife and highly impressed!
Amazing! I've never seen anything like it. It was cool to see that pattern finally revealed at the end. Truly great work.
Absolutely beautiful work!
That is the most amazing looking blade I've ever seen. Just beautiful.
This video was excellent. The knife is beautiful beyond description. The process was a pleasure to watch. The camera work was great, and the music was perfect. I want to say again that the knife is truly a work of art. So beautiful, in fact, I feel a bit funny commenting on the music, but I'm going to. I've seen a lot of comments asking about it. I googled Matias Quiroga and La Peluquera and found the first song 'Un Dia Como Hoy'. That is the only title I could match up. I really wish someone would post a playlist.
+Russ Harig thank you Russ! all the music in the video belong to two of my brothers, matias and maximo quiroga, you will find some of the songs of the video here: mathiasquiroga.bandcamp.com/album/hombre-lejano-2 and one of maximo's here: myspace.com/jovenpitua/music/songs ("a human prayer" aka "good old jesus")
That's a great looking knife and pattern you have as well
wonderful knife . Awesome work. TY for sharing.
absolutely beautiful work
Manuel, wow. Brilliant video, amazing knife! You must be very proud of your skill. Well done!
Stunning, a true work of art.
Beautiful work!
Even though I don't understand the lyrics I like the music. In both video's. And of course the knife and the craftsmanship that goes into it.
AMAZING! great looking knife!
What a great looking blade.
That was just marvelous. What a beauty...
beautiful work thanks for showing
beautiful damascus pattern
yea, he mentioned this in the comment section on this same video uploaded on his own channel. A bunch of people were giving him crap for "wasting" so much steel, but for the pattern he was goin for he said that you have to cut pretty deep into the bevels to get it. You can see how it shows more of a twist pattern on the upper half and more of a jelly roll pattern as it gets closer to the edge.
Respect! Very nice work, all and all!!
beautiful, entertaining and informative.ty for the vid.
Can we please have more detail re the grades of steel used with this forging technic. And wow after teaching myself to craft blades I now realise I know almost nothing. This is art at its best and I want to learn more.
True artist a work of beauty
Absolutely gorgeous pattern... but I thought with all the effort to produce the billet, that you ground or cut away a lot of fantastic Damascus steel... maybe just me! Great work Manuel Quiroga Guiraldes.
{oh for a surface grinder...}
Wow, amazing work man. That Thing is beautiful
Best looking blade I have ever seen in my life. Damascus steel looks good but this is just pure beauty. You can get lost looking at the patterns on this blade.
Que lindo trabajo , felicitaciones !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great video, but I really wish you had gone with a more readable font for the onscreen text.
Awesome work!
very good tutorial congratulations you're a master smit
a lot of work for an amazing product !
Gracias.
dude, you got shit amazing machines, and you use them well. I see many blacksmiths in youtubeusing their expensive machines horribly and it pains me
That power hammer is a machine and half there's no school like old school. Love Damascus steel it has almost magical property's I wish I could make a Damascus blade.
Parabéns pelo trabalho, é realmente uma obra de arte. Incrível!
thanks for this video, some day I dream of doing this.
That is gorgeous
@sirspikey - I think more hammering on edge would distort the pattern. The best damascus pattern i have ever seen.
very very nice knife
Very, very beautiful.
is that a DIY power hammer? it's one of the nicer one's i've seen
Just a beautiful thaang!!
that's pretty sick
Beautiful work, stunning result! Also, does anyone know what the music is in this video? I love it.
amazingly amazing.
Beautiful
Nice Knife!
I have trouble finding words to describe how amazing this knife is. I hope to become that good at bladesmithing. Please make more videos like this. Side note, I hate how slow the hydraulic press is lol do you ever have issues with losing too much heat with the press?
+William Cummings Thanks William! BTW I already solved the issue with the press being too slow. I took the filter out and it started to run much faster.
+Manuel Quiroga That's good, glad to hear it! Keep up the amazing work!
you should clean the filter, not remove it. It is there for a reason.
Fantastic!!
Amazing!
The whole time I was watching this I was thinking "that's far too much effort" but when I saw the finished pattern it was worth it.
beautiful work! how long for the forge and blade work alone? can't wait to start making my own hunting blades. This was a joy to watch!
all I can say is WOW
Speechless.....
damn sir that is one pretty blade
this is the best piece of art I have ever seen excellent work
do you have a place I can make an order or 2
I think he milled it to keep the pattern more even. If he would have drawn it out more or hammered it down closer to the end product shape it would have distorted the pattern more. While in some cases this may be the desired effect, his pattern is very consistent throughout the blade and he must have wanted it that way.
Vídeo very good!!!
Greetings from South Texas! Very impressive blade! Your shop, tools and process are well thought out. You are one hell of an artist. Do you sell in the U.S?
Can you send me a music list used in the video?
Su Amigo Siempre,
+KillerKane thanks a lot man! I'm semi retired from bladesmithing right now, so Im not really selling anyware.
all the music in the video belong to two of my brothers, matias and maximo quiroga, you will find some of the songs of the video here: mathiasquiroga.bandcamp.com/album/hombre-lejano-2 and one of maximo's here: myspace.com/jovenpitua/music/songs ("a human prayer" aka "good old jesus")
Awesome!
amazing
parabem trabalho muito bem feito
hermoso! que tal las caracteristicas mecanicas del acero? dureza? felicitaciones
cool what a blade
Tremendo laburo y una pieza magnifica. Te felicito. De donde sos?
+Lorenzo B. gracias! Argentina
Saludos del otro lado del charco, hermano.
An apprentice...w/ a shop like that?
I was wondering why your hydraulic flat dies were dished and had rolled edges. I think your pump is running too slow. The temper on the dies has been lost due to the enormous length of time that dies are in contact with the hot steel. Btw, I love your work. Keep thinking outside the box!
+Glenn Wiebe Thanks Glenn, I solved the hydraulic pump problem, a took off the filter and it started flying!
you made all of that beautiful metal, then you milled so much of it away. is there any practical reason for that or is that just how you like to do it?
If you would've hammered the edge instead of grinding would the pattern had been different on the edge?
hey just wanted to say you might want to cut that stump down about 6 in your anvil is a little high but very nice love the air hammer life.
Great!
excelente
Hello thanks for video, how to unite the plates of ex-plane exhaust and a hundreds electrik guitar string waste made from nikle and leaf spring or bearing how to joined that layer by forge???
instead of milling it thinner could you instead have cut it down the centre to turn it into 2 blanks? then you could have made a matched pair
Is there any way to buy / download the music used in this video? I love it.
you have used all the kinds of damascus, i wonder how many layers it is
magnifique,c'est un maitre accompli ,respect.
magnifique,c'est un maitre accompli ,respect.
quien la canta tambien...... saludos ARGENTINA !!
Wow!
Do you think that's motor oil quench?
just seems like a lot of work for only one small knife a gorgeous one but only one. there seemed to be enough metal for at least two if not a third.
Not really.
KILLER!!!!!!!!!!!!
