Hearing about the passing of Dave Sanborn brought me here. This was the first I had heard of Dave & was a fan from that point on. Thank you Bob for having Dave play an amazing solo. RIP Dave Sanborn
Night Crawler by Bob James is a BAD JAM after all these years & will be for many more years too! With David Sanborn on Sax & the late great Eric Gale on Guitar. Still a MONSTER track!
Bob James - Electric Piano (Solo), Oberheim synth, Composer, Arranger, Producer David Sanborn - Alto Saxophone (Solo) Eric Gale - Electric Guitar (Solo) Steve Khan - Rhythm Guitar Gary King - Bass Andy Newmark - Drums Ralph MacDonald - Percussion
I was 19 years old when I heard this record in 77, I wore the grooves off of it. It was the first BJ record I learned to play, I thought it was such a beautiful mix of a groove. I am a Chicago kid but this has the NYC thing on it. I can not say enough about the composition and arranging of the Professor BJ aka Mr. Bob James. My fave musician in the whole wide world, bar none! Smooth jazz my ass, this man goes hard! And David Sanborn and Eric Gale...they worked this joint. Oh and I think Stevie Gadd kept that pocket tight and right.

My dad had this record. Post counting and farm yard animal sounds stuff and themes from westerns, this song was among my first musical memories. I bought him 'Straight Up' when I was 15 or 16 as a bit of a thank you.
I remember hearing this on WJZZ in Detroit in the 70 s ...and just one of Bob James mellow cuts to chill folks out...its still a bossing cut and its 2021..
Cut my musical teeth on James, Laws, Hancock, Sandborn, Cobham and many more. I learned from the best in my own basement. Those where the days! No regrets!
You ain't said but a word. And I don't think you left anybody out of that lineup except possibly Donald Byrd. I was all over these musicians chillin with wall to wall stereo equipment, receivers, amps, turntables, pre-amps, fisher speakers, reel to reel with sound on sound and the best quervo money could buy. Lord I miss those days.

Bob James it's a man I like everything when he puts out. Because I like everything that he does!!!!!! If you have a nice dinner set nice people and you weren't good rhythms I really suggest Bob James among many other greats
I dont know if they have or would ever read these comments, but whoever created the visualizer for this deserves some major kudos. This is one of the best visualizers I've seen, especially with the part at 3:02 right before the sax solo
I owned a copy of this magnificent release by Mr. Bob James when it first came out and listened to it endlessly. The musical lineup including Eric Gale speaks volumes. Outstanding performances by all the musicians involved.
Of course, everyone recognizes and acknowledges the contributions of *Bob James.* People will always remember how "Nautilus" was highly sampled by Hip Hop. Unfortunately, very few people acknowledge or even remember the incredible bass lines in that song and many other Bob James tunes (this one included). *Gary King* is the *Tyrion Lannister* of jazz bass performers.
Hi everyone
From Malaysia
In 1977 I'm still 11 years old
Still listening to BB King

I believe The Genie was Bobby Lyle who is another underrated musician
