Sep.03 -- HSBC CEO Noel Quinn calls himself a "simple banker." But he's on a complicated mission to keep investing in China as the country cracks down on big tech and finds itself at center of the Covid-19 pandemic. This interview lacked one of the most sticking issues : the scrapping of the dividend. Shareholders were left with the bags for years to come. Also rather ironic is the stance on crypto . To argue that there is a lack of transparency in crypto is a joke hearing this from the worlds money laundering bank. Fact is that many clients want exposure to crypto and they are missing out on an important opportunity and eventually their customers will vote with their feet. Shareholder be warned.

I agree with dividend issue, they should really consider doing buybacks especially with the current low pricings as a way to compensate shareholders. But I don't agree with crypto. Chasing the short term profits of cryptomania will be the end of many institutions. The most prudent thing to do would be to figure out ways to implement blockchain technologies into existing infastructure but not to partake directly in the active market, however painful it might be for now.

China is developing its markets step by step not making the same mistake Russia did after the fall of the soviet union with this shock theraphie that failed misserably because people in Russia were not ready for capitalism over night. It has to be developed and that is what China is doing. You can't do it too fast, you have to take the people with you along the way. I like that approach as it increases the likelyhood for success. And for investors it means you've got plenty of time to get into China.
