In the Middle Ages, cathedrals were completely painted in all colours, both outside and inside. There are a lot of light shows like this on other cathedrals in France and they are inspired by all these colors

I'm a French guy and I discovered your channel not long ago. But what a coincidence: I also live in Reims, where the show happens, and I see it every year. Firstly, yeah, the show happens every year, on December, a few weeks before Christmas. It happens a few evenings for the Christmas market wich is a few streets away from. Secondly, yes, the show is made with projectors wich project a video on the cathedral. Finally, this show has a meaning: I don't know how to describe it, but it's like a short story about the cathedral's story (hence the royalty symbols).

For example, charlemagne, one of the most famous King of France was sacred in the cathedral of noyon. Just 1 kilomètres from my house.

It's not "just light", it's video projection... a video tailored to perfectly fit the architectural details of the cathedral.
Btw, Reims is prononced /ʁɛ̃s/ (R + nasal vowel "in" + S). There is no word in english I can use that includes the french "in/ein/eim" sound to explain you how it sounds, but you can use Google Translate to listen it in French.

Yes it is called "Spectacles Sons et Lumières" (Sounds and Lights shows). They usually do it at night in summer & in winter in french historic places like in Nancy, Metz, Paris, Reims, Carcassonnes, etc... on cathedrals, castles, basilicas, bridges, operas, monuments, etc...
It is more & more appreciated by the french who like special effects. And they improve each year technically & artistically.
Now they also do some Festivals "Sounds and Lights" on topics like the Impressionist painters like Claude Monnet.
They did sounds & lights exhibitions on Vincent Van Gogh & Picasso paintings.
Of course, not to forget fireworks + sounds & lights on 14th July (National Day) and New Year Eve at Champs Elysées, Arc de Triomphe and Tour Effel.
Apparently the best Sound & Lights show is made by the Puy du Fou amusement park at night. It is called Cinéscénie. You need to reserve your tickets at least a month before.

Reims cathedral is the place where French kings were crowned since Kingship was considered a sacrement.
Plus, the kings of France became catholic from Clovis (considered as the first official king of the reunified Gauls) until the last one Louis the 18th.
Hence, the Reims ceremony, placing the new monarch under the protection of God and by extension, the mandate (and protection) of the Vatican.
Every kings of France used to have for Father in God the Pope of the time. Or, if the pope couldn’t be there, an emissary of the church. Louis the 14th for example was falsely considered as the “Godson” of the Cardinal Julio Mazzarini (Jules Mazarin in French) when he was just a representative of the Vatican.

Plus it's well known that Neuschwanstein was inspired by french castles like Château de Pierrefonds etc. Neuschwanstein is very recent from late 19th century people don't consider it as a real castle.

Reims cathedral was heavily damaged by bombardments during WW1, it has to be extensively rebuilt. The roof structure is entirely metallic, following the restoration of Chartres cathedral during the 19th Century which suffered pretty much the same fate as Notre Dame in 2019. Chartres roof was rebuilt with iron trusses and a COPPER covering, it was before restoration of historical buildings like Notre Dame in the 1850s. As for Reims roof, that method was used because it was much faster and cheaper after a war to do that instead of waiting potentially decades of priority budget been allowed to a more traditionnal restoration. Reims cathedral has one of the most beautiful facades of all of the French cathedrals.
The language is "Church Latin" (imagine ancient Latin but with a more Italian accent)
I guess the lights is just an image projected onto the facade, it just has to be perfectly aligned with the monument's features.
The Regalia is also the name of the objects symbolizing a King's power, a sceptre (with the fingers), a Holy Oil ball (or chalice, depending on circumstances) recepient and a Crown, it usually goes that way in Christian Regalia... The term comes from Latin meaning "To Rule".
The Sword looks like Charlemagne's legendary sword, named "Joyeuse" (Joyful, feminine version)

So for the symbols, I believe they represented the kings that got crowned here, Chalice (religion), swords (conquests & power) and the hand (symbol of the king, maybe as designated by god to exerce his power on the mortals, and maybe as a real regal symbol, like a spectre. Could also represent justice and protection). For the drones I feel like this would be out of place here, we are celebrating history (and we try to do things with light as it's less damaging to nature compared to fireworks). Oh and idk about reims, but I believe in many cities across France they do these shows quite often during the summer times, on churches or big monument. So yes most times there is music, it's a nice surprise when you walk around town in the evening and stumble onto that. Those are public / outside shows so usually free.

Good evening Charlie, I see that you are more and more interested in our beautiful country and you become a real ambassador a little more every day.
To thank you for the work you provide, I propose in return to make you discover our beautiful region of Occitanie. You will discover many Cathar castles, the citadel of Carcassonne, medieval cities as you love them, markets where you can taste local products, the Canal du Midi that will take you to the Mediterranean, the little red train that circulates in the green massif of Corbières and especially our relaxed lifestyle since we are retired.
To do this, I propose you to host you and yours in our beautiful village of Trèbes not far from Carcassonne. The house is large, my wife cooks divinely well and we will have the pleasure to serve you as a guide. The minimum is one week free for your reception, just so you and yours can get used to our climate which is hot and dry (average 32°C from April), and all rocked by the song of cicadas. If you prefer to go to the hotel, no problem, the region is very touristic and we are two hours drive from the majestic Pyrenees (3600 ML altitude maximum).
However, I leave the air transport costs at your expense as well as administrative documents and other passport, visa, etc.
Nothing pressing, take your time to think. You can decide when you want.
    Looking forward to reading you.

Reims was the place of "sacred coronation" of the Kings of France.
The bird is a dove which is the symbolic representation of God
The blue light descending symbolizes the descent of the Holy Spirit on the cathedral, and on the Crown that will fall on the chosen One to be the King
Sward and Hand of Justice that are the privileges of the King who is designated by God
The Cathedral is a spiritual energy vortex
The King of France is sacred as he's the lefttenant of God in France.
