It seems they tend to sneak up on people, leaving them defenseless, until the very last victim, when they decide "Fuck it. I'm good enough at fighting."
Friday the 13th: Soviet Assault. For eight months the occupation of the American North East continues....This summer Russians invading Crystal Lake will be their be biggest mistake. Starring: Gary Oldman as the ruthless Spetsnaz commander Yuri Lazarovich. Jonah Hill as Shelly's twin brother Sherman. Chris Hemsworth as the 80's blonde elitist jock everyone roots for to die. Emma Watson as the final girl who uses guerilla tactics and quick wits to stay ahead of the Soviets and Jason....and Kane Hodder as Jason Voorhees. The hockey masked killer who hates pre marital sex, drugs, beer and Communism invading his woods!
If they'd shown Pam in the beginning with the cook in town, maybe have her say she hates that place and the guy who drives her for a while mention how he doesn't understand her animosity to the camp and just doesn't like the camp, then the twist would have worked.
Betsy Palmer herself said something similar. She said to Sean Cunningham that Pamela should have been a customer at the diner Steve Christy is in for a bit.
Sure it does look like Pamela just lost her fighting skill in the finale of this movie. But did she really have any to begin with? The first guy in the intro she just stabbed without any warning while all the girl tried was throwing empty boxes at Pam not putting up much of a fight. Her next victim jumps out of a car and injures her leg. Then she just tries to hump away and pretty much accepts her fate once Pamela catches up to her. Only 2 people besides Alice weren't caught by surprise. Sometimes even with ranged weapons. And the 2 girls who did see it coming just watched it happen. Correction: The second one closed her eyes. So while Jason somehow loses all his fighting skill in the finale of every movie I think Pam had never any to begin with. Alice was just the first one who decided it would be a neat idea to fight back. I actually like this outcome quite a bit. Since Pamela is no fighting mashine, no superhuman, no undead monster she's just an ordinaray woman who happens to be insane and counts on surprise and fear in her victims.
Huh...I used to think that Kevin Bacon's death scene in this movie was an impressive effect. But...now I can clearly see where his face ends, and the prop body that actually got stabbed begins; based on the differing colors in the flesh tones of him and the dummy.
Dallin's Birthday Is Next Week Films That was indeed a real snake whose poor owner was off set crying his eyes out. Oh and fun fact one of the guys was actually gay. That must have been awkward since the character he played had a girlfriend.
I saw this movie as a 14 year old junior counselor on the last night at summer camp when all the campers had gone home. I was the last one to stay up to finish the movie and I had to walk home past the lake and through the woods to my cabin where I was alone for the rest of the night.
i got my grandfather to watch this movie one afternoon and he nearly shit at the ax to the face kill lol I looked at him and his jaw just dropped and his eyes were bulging out of his head lol xD
This movie holds a special place in my heart. It's what was playing on the TV in my Delivery Room when I was giving birth to my son. I remember hearing in the background the line "Why I'm Mrs. Vorhees" while my son was getting his lungs cleared by the Respiratory Team. Weirdest thing to remember. I was able to finally hold him and feed him (once he got back from the NICU with my husband), and Friday the 13th part 2 was on. *chuckles* We decided that we would play all the Nightmare On Elm St movies while I was in labor. (18 hrs so I had time.) It weirded the nurses out. They told me that was a first for them. Haha And, no shit, my In-Laws said they were watching Dream Child on the waiting room tv. And that was the same dvd in the player, the menu was on repeat because we got sidetracked during my "fuck you, I don't care of the doc isn't here yet, I'm pushing this kid out now!!!!" Fucking funny.
To this day after discovering your channel in 2020, I will often play the "summer of FvsJ" in the background through my TV because it's funny and soothing. I often fall asleep to Deckers videos. X"D
+michaelkeha I heard that the snake's handler was on set, they didn't tell him they were going to actually kill it, and that he was understandably very upset. Whether any of that is true, I have no idea.
It gives clues in that the first two counselors knew the person who killed them and spoke to them like they were an adult - that same person was checking on the safety of the children just before. Plus they mentions of the drowning when it all started. Yeah, we never heard her name before then but we could figure out it was connected to that and someone who worked at the camp. Anything more would have blown it.
wow i remember i found this channel excatly one year ago when this movie review came out! i just searched for friday the 13th reviews and thankfully i found this channel! youre hilarious! keep up the good work! im looking forward to this years summer special!
Might just be me...but did the movie need to show a potential killer to create mystery? Doesn't it work just fine that there is someone around the camp killing people? We don't know who is doing it as much as the people at the camp don't have a clue what is going on. And then you introduce the killer later and get some background as to why she's doing what she's doing. Plus kind of a bold move to have the killer being this older woman who lost her son. Not some unstoppable monster or man in his 20s. Kind of an interesting start to a franchise.
How many famous actors/actresses got their starts in horror movies? So far I’ve counted Johnny Depp, Kevin Bacon, Bruce Campbell, and Jamie Lee Curtis. 🤔 Are there others I may have missed?
Between this movie and Sleepaway Camp, its no wonder I never went to sleepaway camp. I love this film. How was Ralph able to bicycle ride 20 miles from town to Camp Crystal Lake in such little time? Maybe he had a super magical bike.
Got to see this with Sean Cunningham and it was amazing. His QnAs are always great to attend and getting to meet the man who helped make this iconic franchise isn't so bad either.
I remember one summer where I watched every F13 movie from the 4th onwards (I didn't know it was airing, so I missed the first three) every Friday of the week. It was one hell of a ride, and I'm amazed it didn't get me into things like what Deadite Press publishes more earnestly.
It's not a straight Slasher. It's mostly a Slasher. But, it also has elements of Italian Giallo Films where often the mystery isn't somebody we've seen.

I saw this Friday the 13 part one at the drive in. Don't see them anymore. I was 8 years old. And for the extra show was the first Texas chainsaw massacre. The original one.
The first movie is the best. Not only because it is the first. I feels alot more real and grounded in reality. Mrs Voorhees being a demented serial killer is alot more scarier than the famous, imortal Jason ever was. The real thing taken from real life is always scarier than things that can only exist in fiction. Great movie. Just about everything works. The setting, the sound, the killings, the mystery of Jason and when Mrs Voorhees reveal herself as the killer. Especially the acting from Betsy Palmer works in this movie. I love the first Friday the 13th. Seen it several times. I like part 2 also, even do Mrs Voorhees is a better character imo than Jason. The rest of the sequels doesnt do it for me. Infact by making Jason imortal makes him boring. Mrs Voorhees is mortal and looks like a regular person just like a real serial killer mostly do. Mrs Voorhees creepy smile and glossy eyes is scarier than a hockeymask ever can portray. Its the terror underneath that scare. Not what you can see at first glance. And she works also because very rarely is a woman a serial killer in real life. That makes the reveal in this film even better.
voiceofreason467 its a classic but honestly its not the best and is actually my least favorite besides Jason x. not cause its bad just because I prefer Jason vs his mother.
YAY Decker This is wonderful!!!! I have been wondering what "crazy" thing you were gonna do! watching and waiting as promised!!! Looking forward to the rest of this summers special! PS: That intro was frigg'n hilarious!! :D

Weirdly enough I was "13" when the original Friday the 13th was released. I sneaked into see it with a friend at the Framingham MA. Cinema. We couldn't get tickets because of the R rating. I remember being completely shocked and horrified from the violence. The movie really freaked me out. The images of the people getting murdered haunted me for real. I just likes it when he says TEENS FUCKIN best part of the video keep it up Decker
I've watched this review at least 6 times and the Adam's apple joke just hit me
