  • Brisca F1 World Final Coventry 2000. Andy Smith was way out in front, and looking in good shape to win his 2nd World. However, Lady Luck had deserted Smith, when the engine dropped a valve in the second half of the race. John Lund was to benefit from Smith's mis-fortune to claim his 7th World Title. Frankie Wainman Jnr's hopes disappeared in turn 3 when hit by Ray Witts. Rob Speak was also to spin out of contention in the same corner.

When you look at the very best drivers or bike racers - and that includes John, there's a certain 'X factor' at play, a combination of perception and judgement that puts them in the right place at the right time more often than the law of averages dictates should happen. Gaps seem to open for them, but it's not down to chance. The fact Lundy didn't set foot in a race car until he was 23, built his own, and then grafted for 10 years to get to the top is incredible. An absolute legend.

See lundy win five worlds but not this one. From mi 80s to mid 90s he was way ahead of them all.

Such a shame that Lundy's cars these days have more in common with banger racing as they are so poorly turned out, the green machine has bodge engineering stamped all over it as as for the tar car it's embarrassing and cringe worthy to say the least...........Not sure what's happened as there is no doubt to John's driving talent.
