    Great review mate 👍 I have a City Pro coming via Apollo's Aussie distributor Electric Kicks. Thanks to your review along with your fellow Englishman 'Ride N Glide' I hope to be one of the very first Aussie's to show it off in my home City of Brisbane Anyway very comprehensive and thorough review (best and most informative thus far) very well done, obviously alot of planning went into this video it is very much appreciated here down under.

    Great review I have a city pro on it’s way! The City has a 48v 13.5Ah Pro has 48v 18Ah and IP 66 on the pro. I had an accident at 20mph on a $500 solid tire e scooter and it hurt all over! so 32mph is fast enough although it will fly with my 155lbs on the City Pro! banging intro!

    Hi ! very interesting video because im trying to decide between the apollo city PRO 2022 vs Apollo Explorer vs Apollo Ghost. I cant go for the phantom because it would be too heavy for me, im a girl but im strong enough to lift 60 pounds. From what im understanding in your video, ur saying Apollo city 2022 is expensive compared to other models in the market ? I live in canada so theres not many choice for me :( But i looked on the spec for Apollo city 2022 and the range is plenty enough for me and the speed, i live in the city so i doubt ill go at the maximum.
    I was thinking about the EMOVE Cruiser too but i dont think they will offer lots of help if i live in Canada with warranty and stuff
    *ill rarely use the subway or bus because the point using the scooter is save money and I live second floor in my apartment building so its not too bad.

    First of all, great review! I thoroughly enjoyed watching it! I live in NYC and I was going to purchase this scooter as a companion city commuter scooter on days when I needed something more portable than my beefier scooter. However, though this scooter is very cool making great strides for innovation, once the specs were revealed and price point, it turned me off. This is not a compact and portable scooter, the Dual Motor version is heavier than their Ghost model. I think they are doing great innovations at Apollo, but missed what a City commuter is looking for : portability (lighter weight) , range, build quality, and a reasonable price. I wouldn't purchase it because the specs don't line up with the price point and my overall needs for city commuting such as carrying it into the subway or up a couple flights of stairs in my Aparment building, and I honestly think something like an EMOVE Cruiser would do the job much better (though it's not as flashy looking). I hope to see Apollo make a true city rider scooter that has the features I mentioned. Until then, I'll wait and save my money.

      Hi Nicole, thanks - we put alot of effort into it so I'm glad it was appreciated! I agree that it is a little on the heavy side - however, I found that the extra weight made the scooter far more enjoyable to ride than lighter alternatives. Hope you find the perfect scooter soon! I had a toss up between the dualtron spider v2 (57 lbs), kaabo mavic v2 (65 lbs), and this apollo city pro (67 lbs). I didn’t want to go above 60 lbs but i realized i would have to for the performance needs. Good speed, range, suspension, appearance but i got a flat on my first scoot, the difficulty and hassle led to get the city pro. I really wanted the spider v2 (for the weight) but on occasion i would have to lock the scooter up and the screaming dualtron branding all over the scooter says “steal me, i’m expensive” which is not a comfortable feeling in nyc. I won’t take it on mass transit like you plan to, so you do have a lot of lightweight options, check esg, they just did a lightweight comparison.

  • @Majortrader8
    @Majortrader8 2 года назад +6

    Great thorough review! One thing I think may have been missed here is you listed the dual speed as 32MPH but it's 34MPH/55KM/H. And when you compared the ghost to the city 2022 you said the ghost may be a better option because it is 6MPH faster, but that's only true for the lower spec single motor city 2022, the dual city is 34MPH/55KMH same speed as the ghost. Only reason I noticed is because I'm looking to buy either the ghost or the city 2022 dual right now lol could you answer me this since it'll definitely help my decision, though top speed is the same between the ghost and dual city 2022, you mentioned the ghost has 43% faster acceleration. I take it that's from stronger motors and 52v battery vs 48v, but can you tell me what factors you included in that calculation and if you factored in the city 2022's new 21700 cell battery which has higher discharge/power output to the motors? I was just surprised ghost could still be that much faster acceleration all things considered. Thanks for your scooter wisdom in advance!!

    • @ElectricScooterInsider
      @ElectricScooterInsider  2 года назад +6

      Hi Jamie, thanks for your comment and feedback. The 43% figure is based on the single motor City vs the Ghost. All of the factors for the acceleration tests we do are the same (165 lbs rider, flat terrain, scooter in its highest speed setting). Some scooters pull away quicker because of motor size but also a big component is the controller (s) which pulls the power from the battery. In regards to the Ghost, the main difference lies in the motor size. In terms of which model you should go after, it comes down to how you ride. If you plan to stick to urban environments, I'd go for the dual City. It's extremely well-equipped for cruising city streets and the acceleration to 15 mph is a close match to the Ghost but the Ghost will pull away past 15 mph. On the other hand, if you want a model that is more versatile (ie. riding it though the city but also on dirt tracks) then I'd go for the Ghost. Hope that helps!

    • @Majortrader8
      @Majortrader8 2 года назад +1

      Ah, that makes sense! Thanks for providing the clarity. It's super helpful here. Do you have any idea what the percentage difference in acceleration would be between the dual motor city and the ghost? Or what's the Ghost 0-25km/h acceleration? I heard dual city is 0-25km/h in about 2.9 seconds. Also, I live downtown Toronto and will be pretty much exclusively. Only riding this in the city streets, so if they are that close in acceleration from start and the same top speed and I won't be using these off-road I think I have my decision to go with this city 2022. Thanks so much for the help! I can sleep easy knowing I made the right choice now haha

    • @ElectricScooterInsider
      @ElectricScooterInsider  2 года назад +3

      @@Majortrader8 sure thing! For context the ghost hits 15 mph in 2.3 seconds. Ultimately, in practice the 0.6 second difference is unnoticeable. Hopefully that confirms your decision even further! P.s. • @yanassi
    @yanassi 2 года назад

    Where is the best place on the city pro to run a lock/chain to secure it to some degree? The kick plate would be a likely place but it seems there are hex bolts holding it. Second, you rode on cobblestone streets which is really rough on any scooter/rider, what is your assessment on the suspension comparison? And did you do any suspension changes? I would replace the handgrips, will that be a simple diy? Thanks for the great review and comparisons. I was on the fence on the apollo city pro, kaabo mantis v2, dualtron spider2, i ended up buying the city pro dual. My reasons, self seal tires and drum brakes which lessens the need for maintenance. No fears of bent/worn disc brakes or hours walking home with a flat tire with the need to fix it. Also, i like the space grey (unlike the ubiquitous all black scooters) with orange accents and the fresh design. Expected cons, I will need to rinse off the footprints that’s expected on the rubber footprint magnet deck, I’ll lose braking power, accessorizing (horn, less expensive phone holder) the designer handlebars will not be easy. On the hook’s loose connection to the deck, maybe attaching a magnet will help keep the hook attached, assuming it’s not aluminum.

I purchased the Niu Kqi3 pro which is an excellent scooter but I realize after riding it for a couple of weeks that I need suspension, more speed, turn signals and thumb accessible buttons instead of a single button on a center console. I actually watched most of the review since I was seriously contemplating this scooter when it was first announced. I have a question for you, I'm a little confused if you consider your channel and reviews to be "unbiased" as they say, it seems that both you and Electric Scooter Guide are plugging the Apollo brand, so I'm wondering if you can address if you are being paid a fee by the brand to promote it?! Not that you aren't thorough and very detailed, but seems a little heavy-handed toward pitching it in my opinion given the less than exciting specs of the machine. And the fact that if we did catch onto the horrible specs of the New Apollo City our first alternative choice should be another Apollo branded scooter, the Apollo Ghost.
    The reason it also seems a bit suspect is that while I like the upgrades, this scooter has some major drawbacks that seemed to be gently glossed over., any person who's into E-Scooters would pick them out off the bat. The worst offenders are that this thing is cumbersome and too heavy for a commuter scooter particularly compared to their last City which was only 39lbs. It's called the "City" yet those of us who live in real urban Cities couldn't justify carrying around the additional 20lbs Apollo has added to their old model to attempt to carry this as another reviewer said up stairs and into our office buildings and apartments which often require several flights of stairs. Just not doable in real world use or for anyone who isn't incredibly fit and strong which would eliminate many of the smaller framed riders and (most) women.
    The other things that are off about it are: the range is really lousy for the price and weight. It is outshined by so so many other scooters with range and bang for your buck. Something I also was a little shocked to see was the really awful hill-climbing grade spec on this, particularly the single motor model. For a City designed model, 10% is insane and mostly useless unless your City it flat as a pancake which most cities including mine are not. Since I took the time to watch the whole thing, I hope you don't mind that I took the time to write a real response to it and to ask some questions. I do really enjoy your channel but I wish Apollo had thought more about this and will continue to work on their models to meet their riders needs and expectations. -

      Hey! Great comment and happy to answer!
      Are the reviews unbiased: Yes. Apollo haven't paid us to create the video. All of the investment needed to make the video came out of my pocket - this is because I'm set on becoming the authority in the space so whatever it takes I'll do it! I'd also recommend reading through our values (particular the impartial one) which you can read more of here: www.electricscooterinsider.com/how-we-conduct-our-electric-scooter-research/#impartial-advice. A key value for our brand is that we show you the good and bad to let you be the judge. I know that from my own experiences when I am researching products I don't just want to see a reviewer say XYZ is amazing for every product since then its hard to distinguish what's good and bad. With this in mind, I make sure to highlight the areas that I think are lacking and I'm not afraid to put scooters under scrutiny (on our website I've even rated some 3/10 despite having invested considerable time, effort, and money into the reviews). To support our rigorous scooter review and editorial process, we rely on affiliate commissions. These are at no cost to you and are a common way of supporting RUclips channels.
      If you watch our videos, find a scooter that you like, and click through to the retailer then we may earn a commission. We only earn a commission if you purchase a scooter and are happy with it. If you decide that you don’t like it and return it, we don’t earn a commission. Ultimately, my goal is to help you find the right scooter and if that's not any that we have reviewed but our reviews still help you in your search then that's good by me.
      The alternatives picked are based on what we think riders would benefit from the most, so although we featured the Ghost, we also have the EMOVE Cruiser and INOKIM Quick 4 as two great choices, and in parts of the review I even say to opt for the EMOVE Cruiser if range is what you are after.
      Understood on the weight side of things - on the one hand I agree that it's not as ideal as lighter models that have telescopic stems and foldable handlebars (like the INOKIM Quick 4), but on the other, the added weight made the scooter feel so much better to ride.
      Maximum range - we have spoken to Apollo about this, along with many other reviewers and riders, and they have made last minute changes to increase the battery in the dual motor version (City Pro) to 18Ah instead of 13.5Ah for just an extra $100

    • @marcoprince4877
      @marcoprince4877 2 года назад +1

      @@ElectricScooterInsider Thanks for the thoroughness of your response, Joshua (I believe that's your name, correct me if I'm wrong). It definitely brings some more clarification. So many times RUclips PEV reviewers of scooters are paid either in a free product or a product commission, so it's hard to know how much of wanting to continue to build that work relationship impacts a reviewer's ability to remain impartial in doing these reviews. Regardless, I do like what you're doing here and enjoy the channel. I hope to see more reviews of escooters you're excited about coming out in 2022! Surely there must be one out there that checks all the boxes. To me the INOKIM scooters and Minimotors Scooters look the best and most impressive at the moment! I also am curious where you are based? Since I don't recognize the city and environment you're shooting these videos in.

    Really needs to have front indicators as well in my view and proper support in place from any sellers outside Canada and the US and would like to see what it looks like in all black! Other than that this is a great effort from Apollo, the maintenance side alone is great with drum breaks and tubeless puncture proof tyres. And the ip rating is great for places like the Uk. Just hope the law changes this year as planned in the Uk and the spec restrictions don’t stop the selling of the dual motor version! 😀

    1. Would you recommend this over the Ghost for climbing hills in SF?

    Thanks in advance!

    • @ElectricScooterInsider
      @ElectricScooterInsider  2 года назад +2

      Hey, sure:
      1. The single motor City 2022 can climb 10 degrees, the dual motor City 2022 can climb 20 degrees, and the Ghost can climb 25 degrees. Ultimately, the Ghost is a better hill-climber. If you wanted to opt for the City, you would for sure want the dual motor model.
      2. The two main maintenance areas for the Ghost are replacing punctured tires and re-aligning / adjusting the disc brakes. Plus, if you opt for the hydraulic brakes, there could be maintenance required where you may need to release any bubbles in the hydraulic oil reservoir. The City, on the other hand, has drum brakes which can be adjusted by hand and do not fade like discs. The City also has the puncture-proof tires which are a huge advantage for minimizing tire maintenance.

    you may want to update this on your review, since it is very important for a lot of people in between the 220 - 265 lbs range. (The Apollo City 2022 Pro has a max rider weight of 265 lbs)

      Hey, some good news that you may be interested in - the Dual motor version (City Pro) can support up to 265 lbs vs 220 lbs. It has also had a last minute change to the battery to be equipped with an 18.2Ah battery instead of a 13.5Ah one. This results is 13 extra miles of ride time.
