What a beautifully done ruclips.net/user/postUgkxYGamVaHfdHiPlAQaLa7zkwR02OKpGYDU ! The instructions and the photographs are brilliant. It is thorough and genuinely informative. Ryan got another winner! No one does it better!
From working in the pouring rain while sleeping in a tent to this is unbelievable. If I hadn’t watched every episode I wouldn’t of believed it possible. Kris Harbour you’re a legend. 👏👏👏
Just a suggestion Kris, in order to keep your stuff as clean as possible how about sealing the floor at least with water glass (sodium silicate) to keep down dust and maybe fabricate covers for you machine tools out of breathable material such as used for car covers. It's the same idea as for food processors and sewing machines so why not for lathes, mills etc? Love the new workshop, it's spaceous and now well lit and getting equipped with everything you need for your new business. Love the garden too.
Kris , i have a couple of lathes and a mill in my garage. It has cavity walls and suspended block/beam floor and therefore very dry inside. I got a lot of surface rust on all my machines the first year i got them over the winter period . i threw old bed sheets over the machines when not in use and it cured the problem of condensation from the air on that cold cast iron. I would strongly recommend doing this. Lathe beds just want to rust even though they are coated in oil
Exactly. When it has been quite cold for a while and then suddenly the temperature rises, everything in my shop gets very wet suddenly and drips start running off the mirror as well. If you don't want to heat it all the time ( I only do that when I'm having a break or work inside) then covering that lathe is a very good idea
I cant even imagine the personal satisfaction of standing in that shop and knowing I had built the shop and the power structure with my own two hands from the ground up. Congratulations it is stunning!
Love the new massive black toolbox Kris good to see that you are now able to afford new things mate....well done you truly deserve all the success mate
It’s been brilliant seeing this come together the last couple of years you must be so proud of what you’ve done mate. Always hope I can do this one day, my own hobbity hole
I'm new here and totally stoked at what you accomplish. Watched some videos from the beginning also. Outstanding. I'm 69 yrs old, and 3 time cancer survivor. I recently fractured my pelvis so am laid up most of the day now. I'll mend up without surgery.. Very blessed and so freaking happy with life.. I have 2 yorkies, a pom and a lab. The best husband on the planet takes care if me. So glad to watch your videos.. Hello from Lafayette, LA.
I’ve been watching you now for a couple months and I’ve finally got the balls to buy some land and build my own shepherds hut to live in. Then from there just expand like you have done sir. You’re a big inspiration for me and I’d like to thank you for giving me the urge to get off my arse and do something with my life. I hope you’re business is very successful and know that I will defo be buying your products!!!
I’ve been watching you since you were building the roundhouse and still am so amazed at your creativity! I look forward to your videos more than any other channel. Keep up the awesome work 👍🏼
Came across Kris accidentally recently and binge watched his hydro adventures. Subsequently watched the whole Roundhouse build and then the workshop build. I have to say, this guy is a not only a workaholic and genius, but what an inspiration to anyone with a dream. Listen to that "Ha Ha" when he spins the camera on the completed project . I'd watch a weekly episode of you anytime. Some TV network needs to approach you quick. I'm shocked you don't have over 1 mil Subs, but that's the reluctance of advertising we all appreciate. Will follow you on.. "Ha Ha"
Your vision is amazing, she looks like she grew out of the ground and belongs there. Very impressive and eye opening the process and commitment to quality with economy, very well done brother.
Something I learned many years ago, don't sweep if you want to keep an area free of dust. Sweeping tends to lift dust into the air which just settles elsewhere later. Vacuum cleaners and mops are often a better way of getting somewhere clean.
Just wow! When I think back to your first round house video and see where you are at today ... mind blowing! That is one sick workshop! Awesome job, an absolute testiment to your vision, dedication and work ethic. The word 'impressive' seems monumentally inadequate. Well done mate! Brilliant!
Hi Kris, I've been watching your q n a, outside your workshop, from May 15 2020. Your doing an amazing job. From scratch, nice bit of land, good on you. I'm very hands on, like you, very practical. Good luck pal!!
Adobe is, by far, the best construction material, and the most afordable one, in fact, its free. In old villages in Spain literally all homes were made of "tapial", and they have lasted for centuries.
Kind of silly if people say you're not truly off the grid if you're using standard household voltages. If you're not connected to a community power grid, then you're the definition of being off the grid, no matter what your household voltages are. Edit: Noticed I misspelled truly as truely, lol. Had to fix it, he he he.
People have said another channel where the guy lives on a catamaran on a swing mooring wasn't off grid because he had internet via wifi to a friends wifi base station on the other side of the bay, the fact he lost internet every time a boat went past seem irrelevant to them. Sometimes I think people know what off grid is when they make these claims.
Yeah, people don't understand the definition of off-grid aparently. Voltages are just what electronics needs to work (properly) on, of course over simplified but imho a good analogy.
Things are coming together for you and Dot, so glad for that. The house, green house, shop and garage is awesome looking. Love your style of wood working. When your windows are installed will be even more brighter. Can't wait to see windows installed. Great work!
You are so close to finishing this project, big project as you say. But what an achievement! Great video as usual and congrats on becoming fully off-grid food wise and all.
It’s good practice to leave around 6 inch of cable tails in the back of the socket and dress them in nicely. A lot easier to work with .Very short them tails at any time in the future something happens to the cable , you have a bit more to play with. Great vid . 👍🏻
This dude is a genius! Can you all remember his fist videos and now to what he has established on this property? God! I wish I could do this! And I wish I could do it just like him but I know I'm not nearly as smart as Kris
Well Chris, anyone who Generates their own Power from Wind, Solar and Water, is OFF Grid, perhaps some Folks don't understand the Meaning and or the UK Wiring Regs! Keep it up Man, you're a Hero.

What a hat! Is the sheep still in it? It’s all so impressive Krys, until I started following you I had no idea that you could now take so much power from such a small stream, it’s really important for the the future, I don’t doubt that your hydro power business will be a considerable success.
I can honestly say, of all the other channels that feature people documenting their own house builds and the like, you are, in my opinion, the hardest worker. You seem to have been working flat out for the past several years! I can’t comprehend how you must have planned all this out in advance AND followed through on those plans…. I’d place a bet on your Company becoming a roaring success and you being a millionaire within a decade.
Good morning from Central Pennsylvania. 🙋 It is amazing how you get your power. I have watched you build your little house and then build the rest of your compound. It has been a great journey! Thank you for bringing us along. 👍🙏
You really blasted through that second shop! I'm blown away by how fast you got it up, it's not a small structure either. It really shows how well you planned it out ahead of time, building your models was certainly worthwhile effort. Just dumbfounded at the difference in speed between the two structures.
The building is so beautiful in that last shot all lit up. Again, not intended to be critical, but the blue parts of the new machines are quite shocking. Everything has a very natural hue and then there they are! Quite vivid
New to your channel love what you are doing. Workshop is awesome but that garden is impressive as well. Hi Kris, long time watcher, but first time poster. A great trick to keep the dust down is to paint the floor with floor paint. I did this in at home and it has reduced the dust. Keith
The smile on your face says it all. Great job! FYI when sweeping very dusty floors, sprinkle with old wet tea leaves or just water to keep the dust from rising.
Hi Kris stumbled across your channel and gotta say how impressed i am so interesting and relevant giving our current crisis think its a real shame that the larger production companies haven't documented your journey as so much more interesting watching your journey rather than the likes of Dick strawbridge or Sarah beeny figuring out how to spend their millions on their vanity projects. You have a very strong skill set and positive attitude long may you be succesful!!!!
Buddy, I'm an electrician in the states and you'll find that if you leave about 15cm of wire out of that box when you put the receptacle on it makes everything much easier on you. After you attach the wire just fold the excess it into the box. If you have to replace the receptacle later it makes it a lot easier.
That is a beautiful lathe! looking forward to seeing it running! I would recommend giving yourself some room on the right side of the lathe to be able to pull the shafts out. At my job i've ran into that problem a fair few times. The solution was drill a hole in the wall, or move the 9 ton lathe that was bolted to the floor. We elected to drill the hole.

Some folks are clueless when they say stupid things like your not off grid. Holy crap you producing your own power that's still off the main power grid. smh. must be a good feeling finally getting lights in the workshop .looks fantastic kris. cheers
Fantastic success with the lights. What a marvelous workshop. Really pleased to see you increaing your garden. We were vegetable self sufficient for over a decade on the farm. It is an amazing accomplishment. Great video, Kris.
Thanks for the new video! It's so nice to watch this whole thing come together. Been watching since you first showed the model for the whole shop. Just one suggestion when wiring. You didn't run hundreds of feet of cabling only give yourself 2 inches to work with when wiring the outlet :) don't snip those wires so short at the box before wiring. You can push the extra wire into the box. You'll thank yourself.
Kris, you need to cut more length in those wires before you install the plug socket, you should also allow enough earth to connect to both the plug socket and the backbox, you will need some earth sleeving as well to cover the exposed parts of the earth. I can see the plug socket you have used will earth the backbox once it's screwed onto the wall, but while it's hanging out the backbox it will no longer be earthed.
I was looking for this comment. Kris you really need some guidance from an electrician, the socket you installed does not conform to wiring regulations.

A fly lead from the backbox to the socket (not plug) is no longer required in bs7671. I agree ofc with the rest of the comment tho
Didnt he say he has earthing rods?
@@pyrrhical3423 He still needs to earth the backbox
Great to see the progress that You and Dot are making Kris.
