The serpent star is my favorite. I love watching his tentacles poke out from the rock and wave around looking for food. My mom visited and was absolutely fascinated by him!
Really great cleanup crew shown this week. My favorite invertebrate is my pin cushion urchin. He picks up all the empty shells I leave for hermit crabs.
My favorite are the emerald crabs, but as you mentioned, they are not as hardy as some of the other critters. I also just added a few turbo snails which have seemed to be helpful!

I'm still new to saltwater keeping I don't have a favorite one yet mybe the peppermint shrimp. I started my saltwater tank for me but now my kids are loving saying it's there tank and that fine by me.
my reef tank had a problem with aiptasia andI was tired of using aiptasia x which only works temporally, but after adding 2 peppermint shrimp, a day later they were all gone and has stay that way for months. I definitely recommend getting a few as part of your clean up crew. A most have!
Do you have a skunk cleaner shrimp too? Do they get along? I'm really attracted to the peppermints' anti-aiptasia-ness but I really really want a skunk cleaner shrimp. 😅
I'm still pretty new to the saltwater game, but I'm in love with my Blue Tuxedo Urchin. They're supposedly nocturnal but I always see my little guy cruising around the tank taking care of algae. They're pretty inexpensive and come in a wide range of "blue" and even their spines can have a little red tint to them. They'll pick stuff up to camouflage themselves which might not be ideal if you've got new frags or snails you want in a specific spot, but my little dude currently looks pretty good hanging out with a new teal Discosoma mushroom hat. Wheres the urchin love at, Jeff?
I would agree totally with you about blue leg hermits. You can put a ton of then in the tank and they stay smaller so when they do climb over corals they dont cause problems.

For me it would be like someone saying that they're annoyed that their coral is growing. But I digress :D I agree with you on the point that seacucumbers should be more available. I have two in my system, one in the sump and one in the display fuge. They do tend to get quite large though. Nerite snails. Much better than astrea snails for removing algae. Will also reproduce in your tank and can right themselves if flipped. I think astrea snails are more popular because they're more beautiful. Small cowries. Small cowries are phenomenal. They devour cyano as well as hair algae. After they get over two inches they can start to become unsafe for coral, though. But they can be kept for a good 3-4 years before that happens, Limpets are fantastic glass cleaners. Another one is chitons. Excellent for detritus. Pistol shrimp for sandbeds. Awesome. I've pretty much given up on hermit crabs because they kill my snails. Thanks for the vid Jeff!
I agree with you 100% on the snails reproducing, my shrimps & crabs constantly reproduce, I look at it as they're just adding plankton to the reef. I see chitons all over rocks but I never thought about collecting any, I didn't know what they ate.
I really like hermit crabs. I have several types but the red legged is probably my favorite. He is very active, changes shells often, sleeps on top of various coral and is just an all around clown of a hermit. I never knew they could be so entertaining....and he is always busy doing his job...eating!

I am almost ready to start cycling my first marine tank and so determining what I Wang for cuc, for when that's done
Found your info helpful, especially with pics and pro/con included. 👍✌
Awesome selection...
Great video might have to try a couple different inverts
Nice selections 👍🏾👍🏾
New to saltwater, what’s the best thing for green hair algae? Excellent video as always!!
Pull as much of it as you can out of the tank. then test your phosphates. Hair algae like high phosphates.
Mad Hatter's Reef The tank is only been going 3 months and my phosphates are really low. Although I may be getting misleading readings as the algae is growing rapidly. I will pull out the long stuff and then do another water change. Thanks for the advice.
I got a cleaner shrimp "Noodles", a nassarius snail "Scope" and one Blue Leg Hermit "Wilson" hes my favorite because hes the sole survivor from a crew from almost two years ago. But he still around strong. I need to add more "slaves" because it's a 90 gal and can't keep up. But they are cool inhabitant.
just began the hobby and i am already 3 tanks in. just set up my biggest one and threw 20 red legged hermits lol!
Cleaner shrimp is my favorite
I have a 5.5 gallon tank I just set up. I am completely new to saltwater but have kept freshwater for 6 years so I don’t know much about saltwater. How many inverts and what of these organisms can I keep?
Hi i still haven't received the box yet , how long does it usually take to arrive ? thanks :)
Not a big fan of crabs. But I do have a ton of snails and shrimps. Turbo snails do a good job as well.
love the new intro
Thanks!
Astraea snail are in my opinion the best clean up crew .
My partner and I are trying to find a good tank cleaner for our bamboo shark but we aren’t quite sure what to do because Bai (our bamboo shark) will eat pretty much anything that’s small enough to fit in his mouth or that isn’t semi aggressive (or can hide) do you have any suggestions???
I have had them all presently several in my 29. What would be a good quantity for my new 120?
I shoot for 1 per gallon on hermits and snails
Love the video
How often do you do the mystery reef box.
I like the new intro!
Thanks 🙏
Love my sand tiger conch
Dude, they're the best. I thought mine had passed away because I didn't see it for about a week. But then I was siphoning my sand bed and accidentally siphoned him. He was NOT pleased, and I swear he used his trunk/snout to flip me off.
@@opethmike lol
My 2 peppermint shrimp started breeding and they come out early morning for me and dusk and run around the tank it’s cool there little baby shrimp follow them
Lol. The red leg hermits are jerks. So are my blues too. I have two that killed off almost all my original crew of hermits. Their names are Gigantor and Killer. They’re huge now.
I have watched peppermints tear up some aiptasia first hand. It is worth noting they are a lysmata shrimp, and can exhibit some of the same cleaning properties of the cleaner shrimp.
