is this a joke ? Cold Engine + rpm over 4500 = Death ! When the engine is cold, the engine runs to fat ! (to much fuel, for to less oxygen) to avoid, that the engine stops ! When a engine is cold, it runs very ineffective (that's why cold engines need way more Petrol) so the ECU will give the system more Petrol. Because the engine is like some guy that woke up 1 Minute ago, it will never got the full power. A Cold engine is just faster at low rpm, in the first 2 minutes, because the engine is cold as fuck, and >must< run fat ! If you drive over 3000rpm, a engine that is warm, runs way faster, smoother and better as the cold one ! And if you dont believe me, come to the german autobahn. Drive your car 20 Min with 180km/h then try 0-60. And tomorow try it with a cold engine........when the cold engine survive it, you will see, that the warm engine was faster.
Lot of confusion about how pod filters work, the air in most engine bays aren't hot at speed. When driving you usually have a big who at the front of the bonnet (also known as the grill) which means that the air is typically cold in the engine bay. However the filter casing is usually a part of a ram air system meaning that you will get a lot more air to your engine using the stock system.
It has been proven that the cone air filter doesn't increase performance. The only instance where a "performance air filter" would increase horse power is , if the original air intake filter was so dirty that it couldn't pass air in the amount that it originally should. (At which point you can just change it for a new one of the same type) the cone air filter is used when your doing an engine swap and you don't have enough space for the old air intake, so you put a cone.
Most of the cars have pretty good intakes but you are true James some of them has very restrictive intakes. But imo you should tackle your exhaust system first they are much more restrictive than your airfilter. Dont forget an engine is just an air pump. For performance you need good intake but you need great exhaust
How does a round filter seal on a square flange? It needs a round adapter to the AF meter and a panel to keep the hot air off of it for it to be effective. I took my E30 air box bottom and drilled 1/2 holes in the outboard side away from the hot air and put a K&N replacement filter in it and doubled my HP just like it says on the box. No, really it gave it about 10-20 hp and a nice roar but not obnoxious. The original air box snorkel was really small so I decided it needed more of an air inlet.
man I have an e30,, air intake destroys the engine, bmw engine very powerful u dont need these toys, the original air intake its a part of turbo kits its not install alone. the whole original turbo kit costs 850$ minimum. for me my engine is m20 I swapped the engine to m20b30 its 3000cc on the dyno it gives 349hp and costs me 780$ turbo and supercharged kits are for tracks not streets.. u will need more water and more oil for every 10 km.. and its destroys the engine valve for overheating..
That airfilter lets through too many particles that can hurt the engine over time, something in the middle of performance and protection of the engine would be better...
I am not convinced this would achieve anything that a new clean airfilter as stock wouldnt. You would need to dyno the engine before and after with both types to prove it either way.
This has to be 'wheeler dealers' summed up...clueless. Any person with mechanical knowledge knows an exposed air filter will just draw in hot air especially on e30/e36/e46 known to be a pointless mod unless an enclosure is present. Secondly as people mentioned, to the revving a stone cold engine. Please.
That filter is absolute BS, and just hocus pocus to make money ! If your stock engine get more Air, it will not use more Air ! The >oxygen rate per cubic meter air< is still the same ! A Engine needs 2 things to run. Oxygen and Fuel. That's why the ECU will always try to get the right amount of Air & Fuel to get Lambda 0,97-1,03 ! Otherwise the engine will run to Fat (more power at low and mid rpm, but the engine will not have good power at high rpm) or to thin (slower at low rpm, but perfect at high rpm, but pistons get very hot at high rpm, and can break !) To fat: To much Petrol ! To thin: To much Air->Oxygen ! The most effective thing for a M20 is a sharp camshaft (like the Schrick ones) and to (at the same time) Chip the ECU to 95 Octane Petrol (it's called Super in Germany, Normal is 90 Octane, Super Plus is 98 Octane) and set the Rev Limit to 7200rpm. Normaly all US M20 use just 90 Octane (or evel lower, Petrol was back in the day, absolute BS in the U.S) And all M20 in Europe before Facelift (Chrome Bumper Models) need 95-98 Octane (but there are way faster at low rpm, as the 90 octane M20) and all Facelift just use 90 Octane. And Cool air ! A M20 runs just at fool power when the air got 15° Celsius, and the humidity is 65% ! There are 5-10hp at the crank, at any rpm, between 15° and 25°Celsius.
It looks like that you dont have something better to do, as to search for typos. Maybe you should try to write what i did, but in german ! That's my native language, not english !
German* edit: all right, take it easy :D it's just that "to" is dumb even for an American, let alone someone from a civilized world like Western Europe
I dont take anything easy, maybe you should work 8 hours in a foundry, and then try to explain something like that in the night, with a different language and without typos. "German*" whats wrong with that ? Get a life !
that air filter wont improve shit, theres many dyno tests here on youtube with the results raging from 0 to just 1hp gain depending on the cars and horsepower ofc

cold engine, full throttle to redline. thats how to improve your performance.

why you know the engine is cold?

mostly paying for a nice induction noise but there will be no power gains from a pod filter.
MCM debunked this
so did your mom
OMGWTFBBQ I GOT ROASTED! HOLY SHITE
Its the opposite... You lose power.... as well as You lose Smooth Running
Yes slightly but your also sucking in a lot of hot air from the engine, best to get one that's shielded like a pipercross viper induction kit.
Mitico...Anche il meccanico che ha preso il suo posto é bravo,ma Edd é insuperabile!
To gain power you NEED casing and better solution is sport filter that fits in original box.
Mindset the only thing you did was destroy the “25y old fresh air flow system” ( pretty darn simple btw casing with tube that goes out side ...)

You DON'T stick a cone filter on a BMW E30, you'll get hot air in your engine! That hose does F-all.Use a panel filter IF you have to.
Kel Solaar. hot air/cold air doesn't make any difference.
@@peterbarber7613 Hot air isn't good for the engine.
I’m disappointed with Ed. Hot air is less dense.
Wow this guy read the package and and became a believer
That’s like 1000 hp he added
I prefer to just use the OEM spec Mann air filter. If it ain't broke, don't fix it...
not a good idea.... this cone will suck a huge amount of hot air from the engine bay
pod filters only draw in hot air.
Daniel Millard depends how you rig it up... Ive had them sticking 3" off the ground infront of the rad..
perfect for sucking water and hydro-locking your motor.
had powertec filter on my 325i switched back to stock airbox , save ur cash for headers :)
Mount your open air filter near your exhaust manifold for extra performance kids 👍🏻
Lovely bit of heat soak!

I put a k&n filter in my air box so I would still cold air from the front of the car
I bought an e30 like that and I was like 'wtf has happened here' 🙂

Hello. where i can find the RPM/ Tachometer wire other side on BMW E30 ? where it gone from the Tachometer ? thx

What exact air filter are you putting on the car? Can't really make it out in the video and I was hoping to put the same one on my car.

where did u get the kit

Edd, how come you're not wearing your orange gloves?
