Was at this game. Huge City fan, travelled down in the back of a transit van with a load of my united supporting mates accompanied by endless cases of beer. Great day and great result. This Everton team was brilliant, would have had a great chance for the European cup, such a shame they were denied that chance, and we all know why don't we?
Remember this game, man United fan, in my opinion this Everton team would have won the European cup but for Liverpool, they'd have taken some stopping.. Excellent team
....and would've "injured 🤔" many foreign supporters, and wrecked stadiums by PUSHING WALLS OVER!...and getting English teams banned from future tournaments...and bringing SHAME AGAIN...to Our Great City!..💙...
@@gerwulfthered154 ....and when would you have won another 3 pal?! Only the League Champions qualified back in those days. After winning the league in 1986, 88 and 90 you would have had firstly a very good Everton side to overcome in the EC, followed by that awesome AC Milan team with Baresi, Maldini, Gullit, Rikjaard and Van Basten......and there ain't no way you would have beaten them - forget it!!!
that was the only charity shield match that i ever remembered the scoreline for over thirty years.2-0?i vaguely remember seeing the two goals on tv.so that must have been about a week before the 1985-6 season.imagine if we all woke up tomorrow and this match was on and the whole world was back in 1985-6 for the entire season!imagine knowing that we could all leave this monstrosity behind for a year and have 1985-6 instead!heavenly bliss!
that is so weird how old football from our day,how little bits and brief glimpses,in all the matches start to resemble the ultra modern much more technically advanced football of the last five to ten years.the football of today.everton ,even in the late 1970s,played modern passing, neat, pinball foitball in patches!
Strangely enough I went to this game with an EFC fan on a MUFC supporter's bus. Behind the goal, a mile from play cos Wembley then was a pure dump. ON way home we stopped at Hemel Hempstead nite club promising bus driver a massive tip. my Efc mate got jumped by locals early in club then the bus load came in shouting "he's our scouser" which now 39yrs later still makes me laugh, even though he's now gone! A great day of football. Bri "gonk" RIP
My first ever live match. Had to choose who to support. I liked colour blue more than red so chose Everton. I’ve been an avid fan from that day to this. I have had days where I wished I like red as a kid. 😄
I'm not a United fan, but I always loved that United kit, it looked ultra modern for that time... Wasn't this the season there was dispute between the Football League and the TV companies? I believe this was the last domestic football match aired (albeit just highlights) until about February of the following year..?
If you don't count having to tolerate the Tories and the milk snatcher.....oh wait a minute, we are doing that again right now and they now come in three colours, Blue, Red and Yellow. 😃.....we are out of Europe.....we'll all possably end up with less money than then. Marginally less worse then than the 'British' state shite now, but thats because we don't know the full extent and depths this shower of shite will go to.
Every match i watch Jester Olsen, every time i think he may do something special this match or the next. Nothing. he did absolutely nothing for MU, as a flair player. A wretched buy.
Yeah, of course. It wasn't a proper Everton jersey. It's popular now in retro terms, but at that time it just wasn't quite right. The next shirt was miles better. It was Le Coq Sportif, but most of Umbro's were better.
@@garyoxer6764 They must have been getting yours right, ha ha. The previous Hafnia Everton jersey was ok by Le Coq Sportif, but that 85, 86 shirt just didn't cut it for most fans, particularly at that time.

Still the best Everton side of all time come on Everton 💙💙💙💙💙💙
2 absolute classic kits from that era
I'me not sure Everton's was. Half the blue was gone, no wonder it only lasted one season. The next shirt was much better.
A great everton kit.

Man United finished 4th in a 2 horse race
Everton finished the season as double runners up in both league and cup
I wonder who won the double
The club that got everyone kicked out of Europe and deprived a great Everton side the opportunity of competing against the very best?
