- On December 12th 2020 just before Christmas and what was about to become the second Corona variation hit to the UK, a close friend of mine by the name of James invited me to join him in Kenya, where he has been residing for the past two years for work. I thought it would be a good chance to learn more about Africa and finally get out of my house, so I accepted his invitation. During the trip, i plucked up the courage to tell my friends that I would be extending my trip and joining them on their hike up Mount Kenya. So with no experience, equipment and honestly no real idea of what I was getting myself into, I agreed to climb Mount Kenya, the second-highest mountain in Africa.
This is my story as a non-experienced mountaineer, listening to his gut and seeing if could take on 2nd the high-test mountain in Africa. Mount Kenya - This is the journey of - Me Vs The Mountain
Let me know in the comments if you have climbed this mountain before or have plans to do it.

Mt Kenya is the tallest mountain in Kenya, 5199 above sea level
Awesome watch. Well done! Very inspiring. I will be treading in the same footsteps in August.

You have sparked my interest in mountain climbing, i had plans on seeing the mountains once i reach kenya but never thought about climbing them ..
That's a Great video! congratulations for making it to the top!
Incredible. Watched this video over and over again before my expedition.
Good luck!
Your journey inspires us all to reach for the stars and embrace the challenges that lie ahead. Bravo👏
Amazing video ❤, I am doing my Kenia in 2 weeks as a videographer so super excited thanks for this video
nice video! We climbed Mount Kenya in 2011 - we were not prepared, too. My friend just read a book about the mountain and prisoners in WWII who escaped to climb the mountain and at that time in 2011 we stayed in Nanyuki so we took the way they used in the book. Crazy but amazing. We were young back then. Now we thought about hiking again and use the Chogoria Route which you used. But before we need to train! Best regards from Germany!
Man i loved watching this from the perspective of never climbing to making it to the top great achievement makes me want to do this one now and Kili wonder how id go for a 4 week trip and do both 🧐
Hi I have climbed Mt Kenya and am about to climb again it was the greatest experience of my life but it is very difficult and if uou are not prepared you will suffer.
I would have gone if it’s was not such a short time, however my friend will be going? Amazing great Kobe so proud of you

leonard, my first ever high altitude trek was in the himalayas on a mountain deadlier than everest and it was exactly like your story- no time to prepare, do it or lose it window. good for you! did you feel so altitude sick WHILE on the diamox medicine?!????????
Yes, by day 3 my altitude sickness kicked in even while on the meds. I'm glad that you survived to tell the story too! :)
Beautiful video. You did very well for a first timer.
Planning to do it in February 24.
You'll enjoy it!

This is beautiful honestly 🤗🤗
Thank you!
No training…last minute. Dude I like your style. Great job congrats
Thanks!
Great video. I felt like I was there with you. What is your next mountain? I found your video after reading the book "No Picnic on Mount Kenya by Felice Benuzzi". It is a great book about Italian POWs in WWII that escaped from a POW camp and climbed Mt. Keyna and then went back to the camp to be POWs. They traveled the same route as you. You should check it out.
Thanks! I'll check it out. Next mountain is still in the works :)
Hi, great video, a nice insight into what to expect. I am planning to climb mount Kenya in March and wanted some advice on what you think would help in training for it, also regarding the clothes you had, what type of jackets etc do you advise to wear/take with you as I noticed you mentioned quite a lot how cold you were feeling. Any other tips etc, if you were to do it again? Thanks a lot! Once again really informative video with some lovely visuals.
Thanks ADot! I would advise starting some interval training in your workouts. It will help during the high altitude on day 3! Otherwise, I would suggest keeping the vision of the top at the forefront of your mind :) You'll enjoy it!
I finally found it !!!!
How can it be the highest point when we see a higher mountain behind during the drone shot? I don't understand.
the real summit is acutally a pretty hard technical climb.
did you hire porters? your packs seem so light considering all the tables and chairs you were carrying.
Did you talk to the elders of mt kenya?
How much did it cost u
35:17 Mountain behind you looks to be higher that the peak?!
Thats's because the team never climbed Mt. Kenya. They walked up to Lenana Point. It is over 200 meters lower than the actual summit and is not technical at all. Still a good experience it would appear.
Lenana would still be quite the accomplishment for someone who has hardly done anything in the outdoors.
Please can you give me contact to guide or company you hike with?
Information is in the bio :)
Beautifully and sensitively made video on the finest Mountain in Africa. I have climbed the main summits of Batian and Nelion 4 times and Lenana 3 times in the 1980s. I did the Chogoria route to Lenana with a group of students in 1989. Of the 7 teachers and 16 students who set off at Urumandi, only 3 teachers and 5 students made it to the top so you did very well. Excellent effort to fight off the altitude sickness at Austrian and make it to the summit. Your advice on how to climb the mountain is superb and I would advise anyone to climb to Lennana over a similar timescale.
that mountain that mountain is the womb the sanctuary adom eden I know this to be true I just know it.. abba is there
next time you are there can you look at the base of mount zion to see if in it is a small nestle on the left a ruines or rocks stones any rocks that may have been walls..
