- I found this 1947 Bolinder Munktells typ 10 hot bulb/crude oil tractor at a friends place. Is was sitting outside and the engine was stuck so he took the pistons out but then left it standing in the rain again. So i bought it! Super rusty, but a rare ealy modell that should be saved.
Can we get it running again for free? I think so, lets try!
Dont forget to Subscribe. This project will take more than one video :) Part 2 i comming up this weekend! /Richard in Sweden.
Old school mechanic here and I love the fact you love the old iron and give it the second chance it deserves. You are amazingly knowledgeable with this old machinery and seem to be a quite good mechanic.... thanks for the ride along, the time it takes to make, edit and upload these vids sir!
old trick I learned from my dad (mechanic for CAT and Standard oil back in the day in Saudi) copper head gaskets never need to be replaced unless damaged or over torqued, as you say heat them to soften the copper the coat them with grease, seems the grease forms a carbon ring around the combustion chamber and further seals the gasket... Peace out sit thanks again!
I like how well you make your videos. When you are not talking you speed it up making very nice to move alone in the story
If English is your second language, I am very impressed! I’m hooked on your videos…they’re great!
The guy who owned this before you must of loved this tractor. He even cared to grease the important parts of the engine.
I like the way you made the honing bar from wood. Nice idea fella.
Nice work Richard.
so many all over the world talk badly about 2 cycle engine designs and efficiencies, but I offer this thought:
Efficiencies can be derived from many sources, even if this engine smokes it's maintenance costs little, its consumption in parts may be nothing, because of its design, the energy used for its construction material and the food for the workers that built it would never need repeating for many lifetimes, to re pour the bearings for the rods easy, the ball bearings a bit more work but engine materials are lightly stressed, its efficiencies lay in different places, it would run on vegetable oil, a man with a good size lathe could maintain it for ever with his smarts. to scrap such a machine would be an extreme loss, not to mention the energy to ship it, destroy it, melt it, ship it again, melt and build something new more fragile that a farmer might not be allowed to repair without legal copyright laws saying you cannot repair, the modern fuel would then be all it could burn.....
this all in mind that repairable machines made of common shared parts is more sustainable, and this machine much more than many.... this design I know I would not starve to death to own repair, feed and maintain👌👍👏
Well written! Yes if you go tru the hole process of recycling things, it is always better to repair. And as you say these can run on anything that burns.
Thanks for the video. Eagerly waiting for the next episode. These hot-bulb engines are so cool!
Thanks! Part 2 is filmed today and on its way now in the editing!
Excellent presentations. Really enjoy your videos. Lovely old tractor.
I am absolutely in love with these machines, thank you so much, thinking of moving to your area😁⭐️👍
You are welcome! We need more engine-enthusiast here 😊
Hello from Billings in the Republic of Montana USA
Subscribed really anxious to see how its going to run keep it up but keep the old girl healthy running she deserves it after such a long time
14:39 😲 Can't say as I've ever seen anyone clean up a bore like that before...
Ya gotta do what ya gotta do, I guess.
Seemed to do the job. 👌
Yes, end result was fine! The tool looked a bit wierd tho 😁
I'm enjoying your videos. We don't see a lot of those older hot bulb engines over here in the States. Very interesting!
10,000 subscribers then. 11 months later 47,000... Well done, sir. 👍
Ok. Watching video, headgasket, coat in gun grease old timers always said when reusing. The old timer around here who got ran over and killed son, who is my neighbor, he is working on being our old timer says soak them in water. Heck, soak them in water and then smear some gun grease on them. Depends on cylinder pressure I reckon, if higher compression the fire ring around combustion chamber is important. Old low compression gas motors not so much, sealing off water is more important. Good luck and thanks for video.
Thanks! Yes these hot bulbs has very low compression. So it usally isn't a problem. There is new available, someone here in Sweden still makes some every year and sell, expensive tho.. Not Zero Dollars...
Definitely want to see more of this tractor :)
My understanding is diesel and crude oil tractors generally pose less problems to rebuild. The biggest reason is the fuel provided lubrication to the cylinders, pistons and valves. Gas was more prone to burning valves and Pistons.
Thanks for sharing this great operation! My kusin have BM10 so it's the same one, shall be Interesting to follow up with you. Big love from Sweden 🇸🇪❤️✨
Cool machine. Thanks for the video!
Greetings from New Zealand, keep up the great work and I'm enjoying your videos...👍🏻🙂
I have my popcorn and ice tea ready for the next video 👍👍🇺🇸
Won't take long! /Richard
@@YesterdaysMachinery I agree , that engine looks beautiful inside . Can't wait to see and hear it purring away good luck with you're project 👍👍🇺🇸
@@jimmybritt9537 Yes, It has been outside for so long. And with that in mind i think the engine actually is great. Can't wait either 😁
Thank you for making these videos and for bothering to make them in excellent English. Some of us really appreciate your efforts.
Thanks! It means a lot 😊 /Richard.
Nice work. I've been wanting one of these for years but the right opportunity has never showed itself. :(
Thank you so much for the interesting content. Love watching this stuff.
Thanks! /Richard
Like the DIY hone ,if it works it works
Works well. I have made many of these. All way down for 50cc mopeds to 23000cc one cyl engines.
Fascinating!
Good video, satisfying to watch (the fast cleaning part). Audio was a bit weird sometimes, and your camera was trying to focus many times. But good video, keep it going, love it!
Thanks! Yes i know aboute the poor camera/audio quality sometimes.. A better camera and a mic is not far away now! //Richard.
Thanks for showing the interesting inner workings. The lubrication system looks pretty advanced for a two stroke. Is it possible to use the same crude oil for both fuel and lubrication on these engines?
Hi! No you have to use engine oil as lube, like SAE 20 or 30. The "modern" crude oil of the 1940 that they used was not real "-straight out of the ground" oil. It was more like medern diesel but a bit thicker and not as clean, lots of sulfur in.
I imagine one of todays diesel oils, that has alot of zinc in it, would work fairly well for lube oil.
@@davelowets Yes the oils of today is 10 times better than any oil of the 1950s.
Hi Richard, i have to say i have watched a few of your videos, I'm not normally one for commenting on videos (i do occasionally) but i have to say that the things you bring to "show and tell" on RUclips are truly amazing and utterly fascinating machines! I love this video (currently commenting at the 5:00 mark, so i had to pause it to say how much i like your videos!
P.S. have you thought of getting an external microphone, when doing some of the,"away from camera" shots?
I am looking forward to watching this collection of episodes! #KudosOnTheGreatWorkThatYouDo
Love your videos. I'm subscribed. I do have one request. Please get a better microphone. It's hard to hear without ear buds. Thanks again for the entertainment. Wonderful job.
Congratulations on the 10k Subs.
Loving your videos 🥰
your channel is great, but you should get a lavalier mic, so you can walk around the shop and still have perfect audio. It's the small ones that go on your shirt that they use in TV
Thanks! Yes i know, a mic, and a better camera to. Now everything is made on my smartphone.
@@YesterdaysMachinery wow, that smartphone has a great camera! You should make a patreon, or something similar, so your fans can support / donate towards getting better equipment!
@@slabbadanks5829 Yes, maybe thats a good idea. Dont know how it works but i will check it up!
Good video once again my friend
Bullens Pilsnerkorv. Just like it Should be in the garage 👍😂
Ja de e livet de 😍😍
Excellent thanks
Enjoying the videos so far apart from the sound which is quite low compared to other channels, I watch on my laptop so not much I can do about it.
Plug in some speakers.
I watch on my phone and wear earphones if it's quiet or the weather is noisy here.
@@bushratbeachbum Nowhere to put them BB, and I hate anything on my ears, I just watched it again and when he's banging about it's quite loud so it might be a mic problem or distance from it.
Always wanted a Lanz Bulldog
1947 ? Incredible that they were manufacturing engines like that 2 years after the 2'nd world war ended ? At that time technologies were light years ahead of that engine .
Yes, almost unmodern when it came. But the engine was ever lastning, never broke down and was economic, so they became popular anyway. And with glow-plugs and battery start it wasnt that bad.
Is this tractor for sale? I would like to give it full restoration to preserve it for many years to come back
Does this model have a three-point hitch?
Not always, but this one have. Original extra equipment.
Like your videos but a better microphone is needed.
You ever use a dingle ball hone.?
What fluid were you using to wash the crank case?
Kerosene. Here in Sweden they dont sell it anymore. But i know a guy in Denmark that brings some every year. It is very cheap and i also run many of my old engines on it.
How long does it take to get a tractor going like that
Where do you find parts for these old machines?
Hi, there are only used parts to get. Or you have to make your own parts. But i have a friend that collects ood BM machines and parts so that is gold. /Richard
Since this is a crude oil engine, did the limited fuel types available in post-WWII require building these primitive engines?
Here in Sweden petrol, kerosine, diesel have always been very expensive. like 3 times more than in the US for example. But the crude oil was pretty cheep back then. so thats why. / Richard
This is 2 takt engine?
What was the motorcycle in the background at the start of the programme. Nice tractor
It is a NSU Lux from 1952. Thanks!
Hej!
Annars mycket rolig :D
Love ur vid
Is this what we called "tändkulemotor" in Swedish?
Yes it is! I have more stationary ones here on my channel too. /Richard i Småland.
The autofocus of your camera is pumping a lot hunting for something to focus on.
I think it's best to use the autofocus ones and then just switch to manual focus for a shot, since you have pretty static shots anyway :)
In the US we have what is called a single Barry hone.
Those are not good in two-strokes. Messes up the sharp edges of the ports in the cylinder. With bad sealing as result. In 4strokes they work fine.
True, on a engine with ported cylinders you must use a standard stone hone.
My right ear enjoyed the audio 😂
👍👍👍
Jesus sänk ljudet @~13.45
That “hone” is incredibly ghetto. Goodness, I guess youre just cracking the crust off those tapered cylinders…. If it works it works but better tools arent expensive.
Hi! Yes but this is Running for 0 Dollars you know. But it works just fine. Just removing the surface rust, noting else. /Richard
Nicht möglich. Wenn du Kraftstoff kaufst kostet es ja schon Geld.🤷♂️
I could hardly hear anything.....poor sound quality!
Just low volume or poor quality? Thanks for letting me know. / Richard
@@YesterdaysMachinery it's pretty silent and only on the right channel. Maybe pickup a Lavalier mic from Røde and record the audio with a phone. Should get you going for like 60 bucks :)
Stereo sound for me. I wonder why some are finding one side missing?
kan du börja med svenska videos?
5% av mina tittare är från Sverige, så då tappar jag 95%, så det blir värre. Sen kan jag ju göra svenska videos också och lägga ut på en Svensk kanal isåfall. Mvh
@@YesterdaysMachinery gärna de . Intressanta videos
