Not saying the other characters are not important. I like papyrus too! But just think for a moment what undertale would be like if Sans was never a character. This is probably a impossible timeline or alternate universe where Toby fox does not get the idea of sans. And even if sans was replaced by someone, sans did the best job as a judge. And no other character can be just as good. Do I also have to mention that sans is the only one who remembers the timelines? Naturally, any situation with many variables (i.e. the length of the battle and how many turns it has) is easier to mess up, translating to more opportunities for you to get slapped. It takes some practice to get through easily because the execution is the main problem.

Yeah, in the first few attempts, he's hard to beat, but outside of that, he's not really hard to beat.
