I love John and this is a cool jam, but he needs to up his game on Stephen. He's missing a major opportunity here. He needs to review October '77 - January '78 (with emphasis on Dallas, Los Angeles, and Sacramento).
What makes you think he hasn't? He is actually very deeply studied on it per his own words and obvious reverence. It is the freshness he brings that makes this such a great crop and superior vintage in the great wine that floweth everlasting from the loving cup called Grateful Dead, and still Dead as Dead can be by any other name!
Farrell, thanks for your reply. I stipulate my remarks by saying I am a big fan of John and have seen D&C twice this year, blown away each time. John sometimes noodles around too much during the jam losing focus of the melody to the point you can't recognize the song. This has been a major problem with Phil & Friends, and others at times too. If you take out the specific "Stephen-esque" character to the song, you're left with a NFA jam, or just noodling, i.e. Stephen circa '76, early '77. It wasn't until, IMHO, Dallas '77 that the song really distinguished itself from NFA and entered new (sublime) uncharted space. Stay Dead my friend.
@@namcat53 it's loud and obnoxious talking during playing. Anything loud enough for others around to take notice and be distracted away from the music. Usually very noticable during recordings and is usually produced by super drunk Chads, that are only there because they are entertaining clients, for their corporate career, or vice versa. Anyone that is there for the music, is too busy enjoying it and don't have the time to "catch up" with Suzie or Sally. Hope this was an adequate explanation.

Dear New friend- improv endlessly but nail those sacred passages in lieu of jamming in key PLEASE🙂 We love the light and fire your bringing!
