- Aloha! The Hawaiian Vamp is essential to know to play Hawaiian music. Learn these simple and easy chord patterns to make the Hawaiian vamp!
Recommended books:
1) A good big book of Hawaiian songs is "He Mele Aloha" here: amzn.to/3atZqDv . This has a mix of Hawaiian and Hapa Haole (Hawaiian songs with english words).
2) Another smaller book with more familiar Hapa Haole type of songs. Also comes with audio! amzn.to/38jJd26
This simple Hawaiian vamp/intro is made up of 3 chords and 2 patterns.
I also have recorded it with different key signatures so you can play them in whatever key that’s most comfortable for you.
Remember to keep it simple first. Become familiar with these chords, then once you are a little familiar, you can combine the chords with the pattern.
1st pattern - 0:54
2nd pattern - 1:20
A - 3:03
C - 0:37
D - 4:15
E - 4:59
F - 6:02
G - 6:40

This is great instruction! I was just in Hawaii and bought a ukulele. Your channel has really helped me and I am having a very enjoyable time learning. Thank you!
Nice! I'm glad this channel really helps! Which island did you visit?
@@JJMilare Oahu. I was there for a conference. I’ll be back next year. And the conference will move to the Big Island. On the ukulele, I’ve learned about eight chords and spend most practice time just trying to smoothly move from one to another while strumming.
@@4XLibelle 8 chords is a good amount so far! For me to be able to learn new chords, I need to learn a new songs so it sticks better for me :)
@@JJMilare Still having fun just playing around with chords. Starting to try to learn songs now.
@@4XLibelle which songs are you working on now?
Agora que achei seus vídeos, muito obrigado Mestre.

Still here thank you again.

You’re an awesome instructor
Much mahalo for those kind words!
Thank this is good. Never thought of making a little into before starting a song. I usually just do an extra at the end. I will try this. All the best JJ..👍🏽
Yes! This is a common intro for hawaiian music we use it all the time. It’s very good to help the musician start on sync too! :)
Still here!!!! 🤩
Thanks for being here!!!! hows the learning going?
Still here.
Much mahalo!
Excellent tutorial, JJ. Nothing like Hawaiian music to put you in a happy frame of mind. I hope one day you have a ukulele school. You are a very good teacher. Much mahalo!! Alooooha.
Yeah! Have you done this strum before? I hope to have an virtual ukulele school someday too! :)
@@JJMilare no. The ukulele is somewhat new to me. I played the git-fiddle most of my life playing rhythm in a few bands in high school. Can't wait for someone to invent the time machine. There are so many moments I would love to relive.
@@kelalamusic9258 ah you got some good rhythm! And I hear you, there are so many memories that would be nice to relive! Those were the days huh?
@@JJMilare mahalo! I do have a lot of very good memories that I would love to relive, and I would love to relive them also to get away from this chaotic world we live in. As much as we would love to live in the past sometimes, we have to live in the present with the future in mind. Aloha!
Kelala Music true! We also learn from our past to hopefully make our present and future brighter :)
Still here, braddah
Yessssaaaa stay blesssaaa 🤙🤙🤙
Still here!! :) I found your channel from searching for Jazz strum patterns and now I'm here hehe What are the songs you start to sing in the first few progressions? Hope you make some videos where you sing the whole songs, that would be so nice because you have a lovely voice! :)
Aw thank you for the compliment! I love singing but don't sing much anymore. The songs I started with are "E huli makou", "hawaiian hula eyes," "ulupalakua". Beautiful standard Hawaiian songs :)

Can you give us an easy Hawaiian song to go along with this vamp? 🌺 Mahalo
Hi! Yes sure. I’m just catching up now but I’ll write it down and let you know when I get to it for sure! Much mahalo!
This is awesome. what song were you singing with it
I did three different songs total. The first one was E Huli, second was Hawaiian Hula Eyes, third was Ulupalakua
Still hereeeeeeee !
Yeah!!! Mahalo for watching!!! How’s the strum working for you?
F7, B7 and E are pure torture. Can I not just pretend they don't exist? 🙂 If I ignore them... perhaps they just go away?
ah yes, those are one of the more difficult ones. But, if you're playing by yourself, usually ukulele players don't have to play E. it's only if you play with a guitar player, you will see that more often. But what I can suggest is, master one of those chords at a time, even if it takes you days or weeks. Sometimes if you move your wrist around in different positions, you can play different chords easier.
Still here😊
I see you! :)
Still her3
Yeah! Thanks for sticking around!
Tell me some typical hawaiian songs especially hula songs!.....love from INDIA🇮🇳, kolkata✌
Yes! Some songs that I did here in this video are "E huli makou", "Hawaiian Hula Eyes", and "Ulupalakua" Those are some beautiful songs to start with! :) They should be on youtube, let me know if you can't find them!
