I love seeing and buying Talavera whenever I visit Cholula, Puebla. It’s super cheap out there compared to here lol I live in California and a really nice Talavera shop in Monterey CA opened up by Cannery Row and my ex gf and I were surprised and happy to find out that all the Talavera in his shop comes straight from Puebla which is where his business partner is from. Cholula, Puebla is where my ex’s family is from. We paid like $225 for 2 medium sized Catrina’s which are really beautiful but that’s pricey pricey. I know in Puebla there are shops that charge a lot for really nice pieces of Talavera that are probably similar priced but they are expensive in Monterey because of the hassle with shipping all of that fragile cargo all the way from Central Mexico to the Central Coast of California. In Puebla, you can buy basic Talavera signs for your home like Crosses and salt and pepper shakers and shot glasses and Bienvenido plaques and all the basic stuff you can think of for super cheap at any little cart that’s selling them. I’m sure they are no more than $10-$15USD for a nice 12” plaque give or take or 12” Cross or any of those basic things so you can get some really good Talavera for pretty cheap in Puebla anywhere you go. The shop the guys business partner works at has a website and they have some beautiful pieces and beautiful dining dish ware sets and all sorts of thing but you def pay for the quality from that website because they are top notch quality that take a long time instead of the mass produced plaques and stuff that they sell at any little cart for cheap which there’s nothing wrong at all with, it’s just you get what you pay for.
Unique cultural heritage like this magnificent pottery is being lost around the world as globalisation takes over. When it is gone what will we have? More cheap stuff and a destitute unemployed underclass who used to be craftspersons.
The space shuttle from NASA and other space ships have the surface covered with Talavera to protect them at the re-entering back to our earth, because Talavera is able to handle extremely hot temperatures this especial clay was able to protect and bring back safe astronauts-cosmonauts, that’s how special Talavera is to advance space exploration and one day we will be able to travel to other parts of our galaxy.

Gorgeous. I’ve loved Talavera pottery for 20+ years now. It’s stunning.
Mexico and Spain, this is a style so pretty I'll remember it after I've learned to draw it myself for sure. I can already form visualizations of it.
