Reminds me of Nuno Bettencourt in so many ways.....awesome right hand technique ....and black nail polish. Thanks for the vids Phil. It inspires to play more and improve. Cheers.
@elbentzo We appreciate and hear all your requests, however, we will from time to time switch things up. there were 10 guitars in this session, and we did not use the AC-30. As soon as all these episodes have been released we will decide what we want to do for the next session. I never thought that it would cause such a concern for 10 videos that we changed the formula slightly. After 300 videos we would hope you'd support and enjoy the videos no matter what the back line is..
@valvepower RELAX GUYS!!! The AC-30 will be back, we will however try different things in videos from time to time.. Remember we do 10-12 guitars in a session.. so while it seems like a long time for you... it was only 1 day of shooting for us...
Let me first just say that I'll never be able to afford any of these guitars, so I watch these for pure entertainment. I was hoping that you would demo this guitar and it has been worth the wait. Favorite video yet!
@Gleefan39 the usual placed strat neck pickup sounds pretty killer for hendrix, SRV, jeff beck, ritchie blackmore and a kazillion other players. plus... if you listen to a humbucker in the neck position of a 24 fret guitar, it doesn't sound quite right. just something to think about when you're pondering the sweetness of this neck pickup.
@frettedamericana Dont worry. Most of us appreciate what you do and love you! Thanks for putting up with peoples crap and still putting these great videos up for us! :)
Your never going to please everybody, (don't even try). You got to the #1 spot on the net doing things your own way. Don't worry about the detractors. Just do what you do and we'll love you for it!
@J89898080 I think he just plays it haf step lower. And the giutar is tuned 1/2 lower too. Chords are Asus2 / F#m(leave b and e strings open) / E / Dsus2
Wow, I always kind of thought of Purple Rain as a joke, or didn't take it all that seriously. After hearing Phil play it the way he did...it was so beautiful. And then with the lead riffs sliding in between chords like hendrix...Phil you usually melt my face off, but this time I'm glad you melted my heart. (didnt realize how lame and cheesy that would sound, but I'm not changing it...)
Can you guys do either a re shoot of the 3 pickup Black Beauty, the Firebird VII, that daphne blue Fender Mustang on your sight, the 1971 Tele thats been under the bed since 71, or the non reverse Firebird???
Anyone know what 4 chords he's playing at 2:59? I've looked and those are not the chords for Purple Rain but they sound dam good and those scales over chords afterwards sound amazing.
@J89898080 hes playing a half step down not in standard so it probably sounds different. the chords are somform of C i think, a D, and idk the rest lol
@srka42 the songs Phil plays aren't scripted, therefore sometimes HE is the only one that knows = he's too busy to go back through and list everything he plays... Plus that being said, you have to do some work too!!! Seek and Destroy!
Anyone know what 4 chords he's playing at 2:59? I've looked and those are not the chords for Purple Rain but they sound dam good and those scales over chords afterwards sound amazing.......(? ? ? D)?
I think it might be a impossible thing for you guys...But could you do a Phil X review on a 70's MusicMan Sabre II? I just found out that my dad had this guitar in my grandma's house....I still can't believe it (It sounds amazing, even if it has some sort of active pickups)
Hey fretted americana! Love your videos, love your guitars, LOVE phil X.... i'm really grateful for these videos - letting us enjoy these amazing guitars even if we can't afford them, just for the love of the instrument. That's why i kinda feel like a douche saying this, but i feel i gotta: Bring back the VOX! I admit, the dirty channel on the ER sounds great, but the clean channel just isn't cutting it... Maybe it's just harder to record properly, i don't know - but fact is, it sounds muffled.
Phil was feeling "down" in the beginning but after playing the guitar he got his crazy happiness back!Playing the guitar really helps you!
I keep replaying this video 5 years after. Pure guitar magic.
Amazing Cover Of Prince's Song "Purple Rain" done by Phil X, Love It. RIP Prince
Always come here to hear that Purple Rain cover ^^
Almost 5 years doing it hahaha
@Fernando Schuindt Me too. :D
Me too....fuck.....me too.
Me too...
Me four.
Thanks for bringing this video back. Words can't describe how epic this solo is.
you can definitely hear his love for the guitar in his playing. inspirational to say the least.
@axl8696 yes we do!! we'll probably put it back out there too!
my favorite phil x video in a while, 2 great songs performed great, not too much talking, just playin
i have watched almost all of your videos and this guitar is by far one of the best sounding guitars i have seen/heard on here.
Thumbs was my grandfather. Does this guitar still exist? My son, Thumbs' great-grandson has taken the torch and I know he'd be interested in this.
Reminds me of Nuno Bettencourt in so many ways.....awesome right hand technique ....and black nail polish. Thanks for the vids Phil. It inspires to play more and improve. Cheers.

That tone at 6:56 is just ... Wow, the harmonics are incredible

Thanks for doing the Thumbs guitar. The strange placement of the neck pickup really did grab the eye when it was on the wall back there.
@zvegasz you can find it here:

purple rain performance kicks ass ! im learning it right now step by step from video, great job and thanks for next inspiration Phil !
Let me first just say that I'll never be able to afford any of these guitars, so I watch these for pure entertainment. I was hoping that you would demo this guitar and it has been worth the wait. Favorite video yet!
I heart this guitar...it sounds awesome. I think I've watched this video about 5 times in the past day...
@gdavglr1 we just don't get many of them, but we might have a few coming up!
i love the sound of the Fender Stratocaster! im in love with it!!
Best sounding strat i've heard in a while !
as always Phil is super.. no matter what he plays his soul is into playing.. love to watch & listen to him.. keep on Rocking ..... SwB ....
My favorite Phil X video ever haha, everyday I listen "Purple Rain", the solo is amazing
@gdavglr1 we do! but I can't change how we recorded 10 videos a month ago... it'll be back! :)
i keep rewinding back to the part that phil plays purple rain.... just awesome.
The middle position sounds AWESOME!!!
@Gleefan39 the usual placed strat neck pickup sounds pretty killer for hendrix, SRV, jeff beck, ritchie blackmore and a kazillion other players. plus... if you listen to a humbucker in the neck position of a 24 fret guitar, it doesn't sound quite right. just something to think about when you're pondering the sweetness of this neck pickup.
this guy really is the best. Total package. Lightning in a bottle.
Such an awesome sounding guitar so clear
@sammy93sam no Richie is back on the tour... you're safe!
easily one of my favorite sounding guitars
@frettedamericana Dont worry. Most of us appreciate what you do and love you! Thanks for putting up with peoples crap and still putting these great videos up for us! :)
Man....that must be one of my fav fretted americana guitars so far
What he just played has just dropped my jaw !So Soulfull :)
Your never going to please everybody, (don't even try). You got to the #1 spot on the net doing things your own way. Don't worry about the detractors. Just do what you do and we'll love you for it!

I would like to hear some more Acoustics from time to time.
@eekleefeld no. i think 26, maybe 27 fret guitar.
@JacobHedensted well, I don't know the song too well, but sounds like the same chords he did for Purple Rain, so I'd say it's just Purple Rain
THIS IS IT, THIS IS WHAT WE'VE BEEN WAITING FOR
@lgmk55 I think it's a Gretsch Billy Bo Jupiter Thunderbird, as used by Billy Gibbons (who I believe does own a moderne)
@FrettedAmericana In addition to writting the guitar specs in the details, you should list the songs Phil X plays.
I love stevie wonder. Been playing the blues and listening to good soul for a long time now days>
YEAAAAHHH, I LOVE that guitar! Thanks for doing it proper!
That red guitar in the right corner is a Gretch - Billy Bo (Billy Gibbons model)
Dude, that guitar has a radical look! I'm buying a bass-guitar with a similar design.
6:50 WOW!!! awesome awesome line with the bridge pickup and the bad monkey on - one of those moments when you need to catch your breath afterwards...
that's is such an amazing sounding guitar.
Love how your nails match the dotted inlays!
p.s - E*R head sounds amazing clean!
Can you guys do either a re shoot of the 3 pickup Black Beauty, the Firebird VII, that daphne blue Fender Mustang on your sight, the 1971 Tele thats been under the bed since 71, or the non reverse Firebird???
I believe the front pickup is in the exact spot the second coil of a humbucker on a 24-fret guitar would be.
Anyone know what 4 chords he's playing at 2:59? I've looked and those are not the chords for Purple Rain but they sound dam good and those scales over chords afterwards sound amazing.
My God! It has an incredible sound!
@SwordMint He already did. Look up Les Paul Spotlight Special.
That is a beautiful guitar~!!
Love the Evil*Robot.... another face-melting performance of mr. X, gotta love the guy!
8 years coming back for purple rain solo
The best sounding guitar in a while I think.
WOW! Best vid in a while... That guitar oozes soul, Phil is playing his ASS off and Puruple Rain!!!!
Best sounding guitar i have ever heard :OOO
I love the sound. Do you think the metal pickguard and pup position contribute to the unique sound?
@J89898080 hes playing a half step down not in standard so it probably sounds different. the chords are somform of C i think, a D, and idk the rest lol
@LemonCrushMusic There is NO SUCH THING AS WRONG KEY, there is good music and bad music and he played this amazing!
@frettedamericana Hey Dusty, i have a question, do you guys still have the Vox Ac-10? I loved that amp with the TV cream Les Paul Jr.
wow looks like i read phil x's mind a few weeks before this when i mentioned he needs the drills to back him up during demos haha
@srka42 the songs Phil plays aren't scripted, therefore sometimes HE is the only one that knows = he's too busy to go back through and list everything he plays... Plus that being said, you have to do some work too!!! Seek and Destroy!
I really want to hear that natural LP
(top right of the screen)
What song was Phil playing around 7:00, with the bad monkey? Or was it just some improv?
Pretty emotion filled!!!!!
Anyone know what 4 chords he's playing at 2:59? I've looked and those are not the chords for Purple Rain but they sound dam good and those scales over chords afterwards sound amazing.......(? ? ? D)?

Can you guys make a vid with the blue and white SG in the back on the top shelf to the right?
has he done that ZZ Top lookin thing thats behind the melody maker/lp jr with the whammy?
Hey Phil you should do some Nirvana i know its really easy but it would be cool to see your version of there songs
FINALLY the 2 pickup strat!
@metallica0925 The Tone Monster is now the Evil Robot... same amp as the one he is playing
@Arvio Cool, I'll give it a shot. Thanks Man!
Omg that guitar is so amazing...
That sounds beautiful, considering where the pickup is
can you do that ZZtop guitar at the right???!!!!! ILOVEIIT!!!!!
phil! ill be in your band! fretted americana jam??
it´s mazing.... it´s sounds almost better than a regular strat
Assolutamente fantastico grande Phil X
anyone else always wonder how they do that photo at the start when the guitars kinda hovering?
for 2 pickups, this guitar seems to have a great variety of tones
Please do a video with the vox ac30
did they do the funky looking one in the right corner?
I am a left handed guitar player, is there some way of sorting lefty guitars on your website? great player, great playin.
@timjob2014 You mean Purple Rain by Prince?
4:54 looks like poor Phil forgot there's no whammy bar, haha. Still that solo there was gold
I love Phil's face when he says 6.9!
@frettedamericana is there a review of the blue strat(s) behind phil?
I´m dying for the red Gretch in corner on your left. When we´ll see it?
Any worries over big skull belt buckles scratching up the backs of your super-deluxe guitars?
I love how he goes to bend the neck @ 4:54 then realises its a very expensive/not his guitar, quality facial expression!
Guys, crunch is crunch, but where are the amazing cleans we were looking forward to for the past almost 300 vids?
Phil must've decided he was going to be especially epic in his soulfulness this time :o
Hey fretted americana! Love your videos, love your guitars, LOVE phil X.... i'm really grateful for these videos - letting us enjoy these amazing guitars even if we can't afford them, just for the love of the instrument. That's why i kinda feel like a douche saying this, but i feel i gotta:

AFTER 2 VIDEOS!!! THANKS GUYS!!! But I think Fender Will not do some custom edition if I request.
P.S. ES 335 or SG??? I need some opinions.
