  • Smear Beef Fat on your body? This was something I never in a million years even considered. But as I have moved away from the chemical laden products from my past life I am constantly searching and experimenting with making my own products. This Chemical Free/ Zero Waste lifestyle definitely requires some patience and understanding as you move to more natural waste free alternatives. As I researched the benefits of tallow I was amazed that we ever moved away from animal fat products. I won't get into the politics of it all but I am glad I have the opportunity to reintroduce products made from pasture raised beef tallow in my household.
To keep it simple you must source only grass-fed beef tallow in order to get the optimal benefits and minimize the roast beef smell in your rendered tallow. The primary benefits of tallow are Vitamin A, D, E and K and improves skin collagen. Since your skin is the largest organ of your body it is the best to introduce vitamins through direct absorption. I was VERY honest in the video that products made from beef tallow will have a mild beef smell. I applied a small trick to minimize this. During the rendering process add 1/4 tsp baking soda and a splash of vinegar. This greatly reduced the residual beef smell.
    Body Butter Recipe:
    1/2 cup melted beef tallow
    2 Tablespoons Olive Oil
Melt Tallow via a double boiler, mix in olive oil once tallow has melted, let oils cool to room temperature.
For Face Cream: Mix in 24 drops (total) of Lavender, Frankincense, Vetivere for an anti-aging face cream blend. Use at night after your wash your face.
For Body Cream: Mix in 57 drops (total) of EO. In my body butter blend I used 45 drops of Eucalyptus and 12 drops of Lemon.
Now once E.O have been mixed into oil base, using an electric mixer whip on high speed until you have whipped butter the consistency of butter cream frosting.
Store in an air tight container.

I use horse oil / emu oil / lard / chicken fat / tallow on my skin as well incorporated with toners and essences and it's the best thing I found in Japan

To reduce the beef smell, the tallow needs to be purified via the wet method. Checkout Bumblebee Apothecary video.

I think using tallow/lard is the best natural most gentle oil for your skin, because alot of other oils need a preservative or a thickener which then needs water which then causes bacteria and most of those preservatives is a chemical compound and this is what i also use to make my lotions and whipped body butters, trying to avoid any chemicals and I think using tallow is the safest way without having to worry if it's going to go back or melt becoming a liquid. NO worries with this one.

I'm not exactly sure about how or if anyone ever harms an animal to get it but with all the economic companies already slaughtering more than what we'd needed. But usually so much tallow/lard would go to waste & it's all natural meaning comes from where we do also, so I think of it like this so it doesn't hurt my heart when I think of those animals, because it's still gonna be there if I use it or not...only down side of it, but it meshes well with our skin because its the closest...

Okay, so since I know I am very sensitive to the smell of pig lard that gets an off smell once it has been sitting around too long, does beef tallow get a smell too after it has sat out awhile? I feel like leaving a big amount out on the counter for a couple months that it would get an off smell. What r ur thoughts on that?

I'm almost embarrassed to even post this comment. The tallow scent was too overwhelming for me so I added ALOT of Essential oils. I do want to say, I love the idea of tallow because of the healthy skin benefits. Anyhow, now I'm finding out that too much Essential oils are bad for the skin. Have you experienced this with essentials? Now I'm scared to use the product or gift it. Maybe I can make a new batch and mix the first with the second to dilute the Essential oil.

Use any oil. Just think about absorption. I used avocado and then jojoba. The jojoba absorbs the best, ime. Costs a bit more but great on the face. I infused my oil for six weeks with various herbs (dry rosehips, calendula, etc) and it brings it over the top. The calendula got rid of my psoriasis.
