This is strictly my conservatory musician friends taking time in their schedule to watch kpop for fun, and throw in any musical comments that come into their mind! Also please do not complain about any "boring" reactions...some of the musicians have blank faces since they are concentrating so deeply on analyzing the music. On top of that, if you think that they aren't commenting enough on the music, it's because /nothing/ is happening IN the music to comment on. It may be a great song/bop/huge hit that they're listening to, but that does not mean there are actual complicated musical things happening that they'd be able to talk about.

When Hugo and gwen said that "Their voice is light, but not thin" I was like, thats what it is!
A lot of Idol have high voices but thinning it when singing together, but when they are doing ballad or singing alone, most of them have high normal-strong voices. In this song (and a lot of their songs actually) Sistar really give that strong voices even when doing falsetto, something that we dont see often in Kpop girl groups. That's why in my opinion, Mamamoo and Sistar intrigue me more than Twice or Lovelyz. Sometimes very heavily breathy in like, panting way. Especially live.
Btw, Peyton and Charlotte interaction when reviewing things is so funny and cute.
Btw, if anyone here already familiar about vocals in Kpop groups, do you have any recommendation for me which group to follow for their vocals? I like Solji from EXID, Mamamoo, Yeonjung from WJSN, Jihyo from Twice, Yuju from GFriend, and others that have powerful vocal.

CSJH(The Grace) and TVXQ are *the* SM vocal groups. Overall aside from Mamamoo and Sistar the quantitiy of great kpop singers comes from SM so that is where youhave to get more into. I can also recommend S.E.S Bada , Lee Sun Hee, In Shooni,SNSD,2NE1,Ailee,Lee Hi
sistar were truly the most iconic girlgroup. they completely changed how ggroups "should" act and allowed for girls to own their sexiness and confidence! add that to their talent and good songs... wow pop icons
For me Sistar and Secret were truly unique and the sad part is there aren't any other groups like them now.
They were also hecka important for tan girls.

I think they are already used to the production quality and stuff of kpop so it became something normal and thus making them react to the music more. I think Umu's objective to a more educational reaction is achieved.
I actually follow them from the beginning when they reacted to bigbang and 2ne1 but I'm still impress that they can react to the music instead of the videoclip. If I were them, I would react about sistar like how beautiful they are or their dance moves haha... sorry for my bad english. I hope you understand what I am trying to say hahaha

Sistar’s sexiness is the REAL sexiness, they are healthy, confident and energetic. sometimes you see them perform with such ease but their concept is really difficult for other girl groups to pull off, watch some of their covers and you will understand.

Hyolyn and Soyou are one of the best vocalists of South Korea. Hyolyn is called "the korean beyoncé" while Soyou's voice is called "angel's voice".
Matheus Mantovani lol okay ... hyolyn has been going towards a more stylistic choice and she regressed after unpr. Soyou has always been BREATHY . Breathiness prevents true support in singing.
They have amazing voices but i don't really like their voices the breath to much and it's annoying.

Baddest Donut Your comment is unnecessary. Hyolyn actually improved if you listen to her recent songs. Yes her voice was not good in 2015, but it did not regress a lot. Soyou is a unique singer and her voice is great. I really don't understand why people hate on the members of sistar. They are all talented.

Thank you for reacting our summer queens! Sistar was the first K-pop group I got into; it was really hard to watch their farewell promotions last year, but I am thankful that they worked hard to give the fans good memories.

I would love if the vocalists (I'm so bad with names! T.T ) could explain more the difference between the way that SISTAR hits their high notes in a healthy way, as opposed to the way Orange Caramel strain. The same can be said about a few other GG that sing way out of their natural ranges, and it's interesting (to me) when it's being done in a healthy, sustainable way (or not).
Susan B I don't think the vocalists may be able to tell if the girls hit their note in a healthy way. Classical singing technique is quite different from "pop" singing as well as the terms used to describe technique can means different thing in classical vs comtemporary. If your that interested, I recommend watching/reading kpopvocalanalysis. If you want to learn more about technique in comtemporary music, the people over there are trained vocal teacher(s).
Rinnies Well, they had plenty to say about the strained way OC sings, so I presume they have some insight to share.
I think they had that opinion without knowing the full facts about how OC works in terms of how they sing. Even I didnt know why they particularly sang the way they did until i read the comments on it
Susan B It’s simply SISTAR uses their normal voices with proper technique because they don’t sing suuuper high songs unlike OC who usually sings cutesy and high songs where they have to sound nasal (best example of a nasal singer is probably EXID’s Hyelin or SNSD’s Jessica) but that doesn’t mean they are bad singers, but nasality often deals with not producing a full sound which is why vocalists don’t actually like them. Raina can sing in a normal voice and in a nasal voice, it just depends on the stylistic choice required by the song or the artist themselves.
There are two different ways to define a good vocalist.
1-Their voice sounds the way it's supposed to for that particular piece.
2- They use their voice efficiently producing the best sound quality possible with the least chances of getting hurt on the long term.
Some ways of singing in particular can be potentially dangerous for voice health, but a truly bad singer would be one for whom none of these criteria could be applied. Since they are studying classical theory, they probably judge mostly based on the healthy sounding item.
The nasal voice requires strenght from areas that should be relaxed in order for the vocal chords to work more efficiently and healthily. Nasal voice is actually one of the hardest physical ways to get to the notes, even if it seems psychologically easier without training.
But I like Orange Caramel, trot, and many ethnic songs that sound similar. And they apply to the first criteria. And they're also gonna be okay, they know what they're doing.
So basically, you should get your vocal power from your core, not your throat, if possible.

As someone who had limited musical experience when I was younger, I really appreciate your channel. I may not get how (especially the tall guy with glasses I think he plays horn who is usually with a woman with short hair) can just pluck notes out of thin air and name them. I actually really enjoy their interplay/fighting. I think I commented on their di di di on the J-Hope vidro reminded me of doing subdivision out in the hot sun for hours. I also like the two I think are singers who talk about it being a good summer bop and melody and song structure not being boring. I mean EVERYONE is incredible. I just like these four people's interaction.

I think I really do have to thank you all, in spite of the fact that I know nothing of music, because of the fact that I can hear the bass and the edm and the sounds that are so miniscule but really add to the overall feel.
