Awesome im super new to steelhead fishing could i get away with spinners? And do you have any creek recommendations obviously not your secret fishing spots but just in general area lol
@@micaelconley639 oh yea I've caught many creek steelies on spinner, here's a link to some spots, just scroll all the way to the bottom, good luck to ya Micael!! www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/60290.html#:~:text=The%20major%20Lake%20Erie%20tributaries,public%20access%20on%20these%20streams.
Great video, and some beautiful fish (especially that hen). I'm a spin rig guy too, and you'll never convert me either. I want a drag mechanism - I don't wanna lose fish because I screwed up the drag. I can put a top line spinning reel on a 14' rod and backreel when I need to, and cast more accurately. So I just won't change.
you’d likely be surprised at the efficiency of a centerpin and lack of issues you experience with drag despite that you are controlling your own drag. totally worth it to use a centerpin in my opinion although i respect the spinning rig
@@liammcfadden2080 And I respect the art of managing a centrepin rig proficiently. I just am too old to get proficient at something new, I guess. Can't trust my left palm... LOL!
What a center pin set up will give you is a perfect drag free drift. Which on many days makes the difference between several bites or none. Especially on pressured fish. Or super clear water. I personally still use the fly rod. But i know guys that have had 50 + fish days on the pin.
@@adamsmith3996 No doubt, but here's something I recently learned which is that you don't WANT a drag free drift. The current speed at surface is faster than at the bottom. You want to slightly check your float at the beginning of the downstream drift to get the bait closer to the natural speed at the bottom. Now THAT tip makes a difference, lemme tell ya.
@@ChorusArtists thanks for the comment reuben!! my dad says the same thing about the pin, he is too old to get proficient hahaha... but for me, ill always be floating with the pin!!
Lake early in the season , then farther upstream later in the season. Ive hiked and fished from the mouth to the falls. Both branches. Check every spot where you can't clearly see the bottom. Fish will hold in surprisingly small spots. Good luck bud.
Hi Kaytlin! right now there are fish throughout the creek, but primarily more closer to the mouth since its still early in the season and they are still moving in from the lake... give it a one more good rainstorm and you'll be able to find them everywhere!
@@OutsidersOutdoorCo they get bigger. Largest I caught here in Owen sound was 12 lbs. I have caught bigger in the Niagara river years ago. I miss fishing at the whirlpool or Queenston heights
