It is always fun to see what train set you pick out to run. I appreciate your enthusiasm that you bring to the videos. Thank you. As a child in the late 1950s my mom and would ride a train from a station near Chicago to a flag stop in north east Kansas. We rode on Santa Fe and Rock Island. Seeing the passenger trains on your layout brings those memories back.
Gonna have to agree to disagree on its collectibility. It’s a nice set, but for something that is seasonal that, as you mentioned, doesn’t fit under a tree I don’t see it being collectable. Maybe the passenger cars, but the engine not so much. Great video and review of it. The new F19 will go well with those passenger cars.
Hey Chris! It would be great for an O-31 episode! I’m exploring and new to the hobby…and I’m still working on what I like but, I’m sure like many others, am limited to O-31 due to space constraints. If no episode…would love some must-have recommendations!
Great idea! I did a Semi Scale video back in 2022 (I think). That has some nice options for trains in tighter spaces. I have an idea this year for a video that may lean into this idea a bit. I will certainly try! Thanks for watching

Most of them are vintage train guides and there is one that details the order of the passenger cars for certain trains so I can try to keep myself out of trouble when I make videos. Great video and review, Chris. Like some other commentors, I also wouldn't call it the train set of the year because of its limited theme appeal, but impressive? No doubt. I would imagine the misspelling of 'Yuletide' will make it appealing to collectors, especially if Lionel corrects the mistake. Thanks for the season passenger train run. Set of the year? I guess all of us in this hobby have some disposable income, but I don't know how big mine would have to be to feel comfortable dropping 4200 bucks on a holiday set that can't be run under the tree. It would only be appropriate on my permanent layout one month a year. Train money could be better spent elsewhere. Still a nice looking set. Thanks for sharing.

It is a neat set. But I can’t call it the set of the year. I feel it is to seasonal. I just can’t see anyone enjoying running this set in July. Great video Chris. Most of the time I agree with your opinion. Just not this time.
North pole central lines might be an Easter egg since the founder of Lionel started his career in New York, where the New York central lines used to run
That’s truly one beautiful set Chris (even with the mis-spelling). Too big for my layout but at least it can be enjoyed watching it run on yours! It would be nice if Lionel would release a similar set with smaller engines and cars.

Love the Christmas Train I really would love to get it . But I would have to run it like you on my layout. So if I get it I must make a different layout to add all my Depth 56 North Pole collection.
Awesome but wayyyy too big for my little set up. Although I have always wanted to do a suspension setup from my living room ceiling this might be the perfect set for that.
In my opinion, I can't stand it when Lionel has all of those Christmas sound effects. The Polar Express didn't have them, so why do these need to? I'd prefer having normal announcements, a normal bell, and a normal horn.
I got my first Lionel train as a child in 1953 and have been collecting and collecting ever since. I could never get into the funky trains. First the Girl's Train in all pastel colors in the late 1950. Then later the Polar Express and North Pole and all the rest. Sorry. I'm a purist. Lol.

Ok you asked for comments so here goes. It’s a gorgeous set! But! The sounds gotta go! Lionel is just pricing themselves out of business. The ordinary train person like myself and my wife can’t even begin to buy these overpriced toys. Enjoy, and Merry Christmas!
This is a hard pass for me, reason being is because it’s diesel. I know I’m biased like that but hear me out. Steam locomotives, are classic and iconic. Not to mention with a steam locomotive you really can have some fun with this. Small things like a wreath around a headlamp, to some full on surreal ideas for the locomotive and cars. I remember a set that used to run around our tree when I was just a toddler. Snow covered roofs, and while some of the rolling stock looked a bit the usual BUT I remember one car was a motion cart that was an odd candy can theme with two elves pushing down on a lever at either side like an old fashioned push cart. This just looks like any other diesel just in a branding wrap. Not very special or too eye catching. Sure this COULD be something you can run more than just around Christmas time but it just doesn’t scream “Christmas train” at me. It says “Money please” I mean when compared to say a long running Christmas set that is still produced and sold by Hornby that set being “Santa’s Express” it may be smaller and less impressive but by golly it says “I’m a Christmas train.” I mean every truck in it is in some way, shape, or form Christmas themed. Sure it can be argued it’s just a standard 0-4-0 painted red with an open wagon (and depending on the year I think they make some minor changes to what additional rolling stock is in said set) but with plenty of people now designing and printing their own unique rolling stock and either putting up the files for others to make or outright selling these as complete and ready to run pieces (such a thing being done by Sam at Sam’s Trains) it’s fair to say that a “Christmas set” can and should be doing more than this especially from the big box companies. If I get only one time of year to run a Christmas train I want it to be something wild, something that makes children and adults alike stop and look down at the train running. Something that when they leave for the night they will say to their friends “Hey you won’t believe what I saw.” That’s what I believe SHOULD be considered a Christmas Train set. That’s just my thoughts but if this is something you enjoy than hey good on you. 😊
This one is a pass for me. As for collectable, we'll see but I'll take my Canadian pacific holiday train over this any day. That one is very collectable. Nice video though!
I was going to get this big set. But I didn't want it with the E8's. I would have preferred it with the F3's. So that is the only reason I didn't get it. Because I have E8'S . But yeah it's a good set. I may try to get one later.

It is great that they used diesels, not the first time but out of the norm for sure. Styled after the greatest railroad ever, the NYC, is the cherry on top. I do not. The two elevated loops were really design for running trains for RUclips. They are simple, but large loops that cause very little drama. An elevated line would be really neat to try but I have limited space on my layout compared to others. Thanks for watching!

Hey I ordered the North Pole central station sounds diner car and the wheels scrubber up against the bottom of the chassis. I was so disappointed. Just wondering if anyone else had a similar problem.
I have the same problem. I gently pryed the truck frames down to slightly bend them inwards. The bearings for the axles are way oversized and sloppy. But prying the trucks seemed to help.
Nice I just got a Pennsylvania B6 shunter engine today it’s nice but I love this train it just really stands out on your wonderful layout nice video and merry Christmas.

Hey Chris love your videos. I've dabbled in the hobby for a while and was thinking of starting a channel. I was wondering what advice you might have regarding that. I deal mostly with prewar, and postwar sets.
My only advice is to go for it, have fun and be yourself! I am not video expert and the only technical advice I can give is to make sure you have lots of light on those trains when you record. Keep me posted and I will be looking out for your channel!

For a Christmas set I would rate it as the best so far . I watched Erics BigBoy complete set with all the special effects , but the price of 4200 for the set is only for the few but is a keeper if you can get one. I have really enjoyed your videos , have a Merry Christmas and Happy New years to you and your family.
Chris, obviously you just need a bigger tree, like the one in Rockefeller center in NYC. I'm not one who collects fantasy models unless it's done convincingly to be believable, but I do like this set. I could see, how it could be, fun to run. Merry Christmas

I have a huge 12 foot tree and a Thomas Lionel O gauge is all the way under the tree.

I have it anchored to the table with screws. I use Atlas track screws and they work well with it. So far so good!

Hey Chris love your videos. I've dabbled in the hobby for a while and was thinking of starting a channel. I was wondering what advice you might have regarding that. I deal mostly with prewar, and postwar sets.
My only advice is to go for it, have fun and be yourself! I am not video expert and the only technical advice I can give is to make sure you have lots of light on those trains when you record. Keep me posted and I will be looking out for your channel!

For a Christmas set I would rate it as the best so far . I watched Erics BigBoy complete set with all the special effects , but the price of 4200 for the set is only for the few but is a keeper if you can get one. I have really enjoyed your videos , have a Merry Christmas and Happy New years to you and your family.
Great train, but not the train of the year since it is a holiday train with limited time on the layout.
Chris, obviously you just need a bigger tree, like the one in Rockefeller center in NYC. I'm not one who collects fantasy models unless it's done convincingly to be believable, but I do like this set. I could see, how it could be, fun to run. Merry Christmas
Very nice. Sets like this are always fun to run. The paint scheme and detail here is pretty cool The normally goofy crew talk actually fits in quite nicely on this type fantasy set. Have a great Christmas and a fine New Year!

Same! I have never been able to explain why I like it so much. Just something I have always enjoyed. Lot's of better options out there for hobbyists who prefer realism for sure. Thanks for watching!
