This is the fastest way to set up and pour our concrete floors. It's using a rotary self-leveling laser level.
I like this DeWALT Green Rotary Laser Level Kit because it comes with everything you need to start setting and checking grades.
When I pour a concrete floor, I have to check the sub-grade for level, and then from that I set my concrete floor grades. Sometimes the floor is flat and sometimes the floor has a slope. Either way, I can use the same laser level to set my grades.
The video shows my methods for using a self-leveling laser, how I set it up, how I check sub-grade, and how I adjust for setting concrete floor grades.
Here's the DeWalt Green Laser Level Kit for you to check out:

My dad worked concrete for 35 years. He just recently passed away. Just wanted to thank you for all the enjoyment your channel gave him.
Sorry to hear about your dad, I'm glad he enjoyed the channel!
Quality work and video! Your transparency is appreciated. Glad things are good for you!

@MikeDayConcrete I live in Plainfield Illinois right southwest of Chicago I install and service swimming pools I own the business love you insight on concrete we do all of our own concrete that way I can control the whole project subs around are not dependable I have been doing pools since 1979
First thing to do when setting up a laser is to establish a benchmark. If someone kicks it or it gets disturbed or moved, you can quickly set it back to the original level.
The right tools sure help the job go easier!
Why not use a bit of rebar? Its a garage floor . Entually some heavy forces on a small spot may end up damaging
Did u say 3 4 inch concrete for a garage 5 and 6 and 360self leveling solid line would have saved more time but who is counting
Is the desired concrete level 4” higher than the foundation edge where he first set the stick?
Exactly.
Yes
👍
Never kick the laser, not even with a battery.
I don’t know why manufacturers put things like “1,000 foot range” on laser specs. You should always keep leveling distances to about ~100 feet or so. Think of it this way - The earth’s curvature is 8 inches per 1 mile (5,280 feet)
That’s, 4 inches in a 1/2 mile (2,640 feet)
2 inches in 1/4 mile (1,320 feet)
1 inch in 1/8 mile (660 feet)
So 1,000 feet would have an 1.5 inch correction, just for curvature. Other factors come into play at super long distances too, like temperature, humidity and of course terrain.
Dude, are you even serious? 🤡
@@Davor_gradnja Totally. What exactly am I getting wrong, oh wise one?
@psidvicious obviously, there are buildings longer than 100 feet. There are buildings longer than 1000 feet. Should Earth's curvature be taken into consideration while building those? 😂 It's not too late to delete your comments.
@@Davor_gradnja And I’ve worked on many of those very long buildings of 1,000+ feet. You overcome the curvature by simply limiting your level bench runs to about 100 feet. Move the instrument ahead, pick up a back sight and shoot ahead another 100 feet. Rinse and repeat.
You might want to do a quick google search before you’re so quick to discount something that’s not even a secret.
Here, I’ll even write it out for you so you can just copy/paste into the search bar “How much is the earth’s curvature?” - note the first thing to come up will be 8 inches or 20 centimeters.
@@Davor_gradnja U-huh, as suspected, crickets 🦗🦗🦗
Let me know if you think I should still delete my comment…or maybe you might want to consider yours 🤷♂
They wont use a laser in the south. Transits only...
Everybody uses lasers these days. N, S, E, W.
A builders level or sometimes called a dumpy level was used before lasers. “Transits” are used to turn horizontal and vertical angles but shouldn’t really be used for leveling.
Annoying beeping made this unwatchable, I shouldn’t have to mute. Congratulations DeWalt, you just outdid Mikes concrete trucks.
“ I like the loud beep”. Yes, we are painfully aware
That's one perspective. To tradesmen, the trucks and the laser are the sound of work getting done.
@@SplashJohn Fair enough, I’m one too, for too long and that sound is like knives in my ears without hearing protection
