    To be fair to Greg's wife, it really does look similar to one of those tube shaped Bluetooth speakers from a quick glance at the picture on the box. I don't think the concept of this case is too bad, it just seems poorly executed and built down to too low a price point considering its complexities. Also this tube style design would make a lot more sense with ITX boards. In order to make this compatible for ATX and M-ATX boards the size of this case becomes way too large.

    • @duelgundam
      @duelgundam 2 года назад +1

      To be fair, if you were to just judge it using the number of expansion slot holes in the back, and you've built PCs before, you would also conclude that it was for ITX, DTX, or M-DTX boards, not M-ATX and smaller.
      I mean, only three slots? I'd have moved to consider using an ITX board, or a Mini-DTX board at largest.

    • @blswebmaster

      I was thinking exactly the same thing.
      Would be really nice to see. It might help the temperatures.

    • @needsLITHIUM
      @needsLITHIUM 2 года назад +2

      With a setup like this, you could theoretically set the top fans as more intake to get more cool air into the case, and with a build like this I think a mostly positive pressure build with only the rear fan as exhaust would be better, given the top dust filters, and lack of dust filter for the PSU and rear fan. I'd also recommend replacing the front fan.

    • @danielq250
      @danielq250 2 года назад +5

      Exactly, place there for a rear exhaust fan yet Greg didn't fit one, also space for an AIO, both of these I think would have helped with temps, but Greg's videos lately (the ones I've watched anyway) seem to be overly negative (probably intentionally to try and create discussion), either way it's a shame as I used to enjoy watching his videos. Cheer up Greg, let's hear some positivity 😀 👍

    • @needsLITHIUM
      @needsLITHIUM 2 года назад +2

      @@danielq250 I more so think it's to test the products as packaged, without using extra parts from other manufacturers, muddying the results. Gamers Nexus does the same thing, tbh.

    • @FaddyMatty
      @FaddyMatty 2 года назад +1

      @@needsLITHIUM it is to test the product the way it comes. I think its weird when cases come with all intake or exhaust fans. My phanteks P500a came with 3 intake fans and no exhaust so I added a $15 rear exhaust fan.

  • @GregSalazar
    @GregSalazar  2 года назад +49

    A few of you have mentioned the extra fan mounting locations in this case. We discussed the AIO bracket in detail, but didn't mention the 120mm exhaust at the rear. As for the bracket: It didn't make much sense to exhaust air directly above a top-flow style CPU cooler (they'd just be pulling air in opposite directions) and while flipping things around would have certainly aided temps, no dust filter was included for such an arrangement. As for the rear exhaust mount: If a case _needs_ an exhaust fan in order to adequately cool components, then it should either be included by the manufacturer or added to the total cost of the case. So let's throw a $10 exhaust fan in the mix. At $110, you've now entered Lian Li O11 Air Mini territory - a significantly better case. I tried my best to be fair with my assessment in this one. Hopefully this clears things up! :-)

      I own this case I am using it right now. I get 44 c on my cpu with ARCTIC Liquid Freezer II 240 RGB. I replaced that front fan as with a argb 200mm fan from uphere for 15$ and I added a Fan in the back. My 3070 ti temperatures stay around 50c range with the case.

    • @RaneBoDasch
      @RaneBoDasch 2 года назад +2

      I like the look and style but they need to either drop the price about $40 or throw in some more fans, a controller, and maybe ditch the molex on the 200mm. And that lack of a dust filter on the PSU is a big no no. I despise dust filters but the PSU is the one place they're needed because you can't just take compressed air and blow it out and it could cuase a lot of issues if something conductive got sucked in there.

    Honestly, if done right I feel like a cylinder case could work well. Have air flowing from front to back or vice versa with good airflow on the front and back (idk why there's only mesh on half the fan here, and the lower half no less, seems stupid), then have the CPU cooler and GPU positioned in a way that directs air in the same direction and you would have a pretty clear path for air to move through. It could potentially even be better than a rectangular case, course that'd only happen if it was well made.

    That is one of the most "love it or hate it" PC cases. I think I am in the "love it" category based on just the looks. I like that you get a "vertical mount" GPU without needing a special bracket and by staying away from the "side" panel so it doesn't get completely choked. All that said, there are way too many other compromises and faults with the build quality on a $100 case, its a hard pass for me.

    I honestly don't feel like you did this case justice. It was designed for displaying something RGB focused and you somehow chose non RGB components. I also feel a tower style fan blowing out of the case would have done much better in thermals, as the cooler alone is pretty bad as a cooler. Thirdly, Vetroo displayed a mounted AIO, and I believe that would have been a lot more interesting, as it would have posed its own problems and would have highlighted the imperfections of the case a lot better. You didn't show all of the problems you could have and you did not use the case it was designed to be used, which is a display case. I feel there was just too much left sitting on the table.
    To be fair, I don't think it is a case I would buy either. It would have just been a lot more interesting to see all of the effects and difficulties of this case as a viewer. Using a stock cooler IN THIS unusual case seems really boring. Plus you can't see it.

    As you mentioned, a mesh or otherwise perforated side for the GPU to directly take in air would help things. But I have to wonder, how much would a full mesh front help in this case? I could be wrong, but the fact that the mesh looks like less than half of that front, and the mesh is on the bottom, bothers me. For a 200mm fan, I'd think that a full mesh front would be beneficial, but again, I could be wrong.

    @Majere613 2 года назад +3

    Well, I thought it looked like a vacuum cleaner. I think one of the obvious problems with this thing is that 2/3 glass panel on the front. That huge fan is mostly trying to pull air through solid glass. I think if that was all mesh, and the fan was an exhaust will all the other fans on the build as intakes, you might start to have some decent airflow, though the GPU would still be choked out. If you put a custom loop in the thing with the radiator up top and both GPU and CPU watercooled, eliminating the GPU airflow issue, then you might have a decent machine. But then first you've got to find somewhere for your pump and res, and second you've spent a lot of money on a case that probably wasn't worth it.

    The case is wacky and not one that I'd choose, but it was fun watching you put it together. A similar, but cube shaped, horizontal MB orientation case is the Thermaltake Core V21 spcc Micro ATX / Mini ITX case. It's 20 bucks cheaper while the mongo-sized front fan is not ARGB, it is a KK style connector and variable speed via a standard MB 4 pin header. Additionally, there's more usable room as it's a cube and not a cylinder, has a lot more airflow, and just a more sensible solution, while providing a neat "different" aesthetic.
    I do think you need an exhaust fan in any case you buy (IMHO). Hell, you can most likely get away with ONLY an exhaust fan, but not just an intake, otherwise you get hot air pooling at the rear of almost any case, where the bulk of heat emitting components are located (GPU, CPU, MB VRM's, PSU, etc.).

    You know which case was the best for the money? The $30 Rosewill case. Only trouble with it is there is VERY little space behind the motherboard tray, and 240mm fan/AIO/rad space in 2 places and a rear 120mm is all you get. (The PSU has a 120mm intake on the bottom though.
    It was as if somebody with Rosewill said, "You know what, screw it. Build me a case that has all the features of the big guys', but keep it petite." It's small, but NOT at all cramped. Everything you really NEED is there. And at $30, you can beat that with a stick. And the two of them ARE well made.
    But that Phanteks Enthoo Pro 2 sure was roomy and easy to build in. Lot of money though and it weighs a freaking ton with everything in it...

    Its a really good case, i have one, the issue is that you added 0 fans to the case which are pretty much required, i run a GTX 1050 Ti at max overclock which can get pretty hot and I never get above 60 degrees

    a push pull aio config or just throwing some extra exhaust fans up top and a rear exhaust fan would help w/ temps also switching out the front fan to a higher volume intake fan as the glass covers 2/3rds of the fan for intake, getting custom cabling and using the PSU space for cable storage instead of the hard drive cage would also help.

    There is probably little reason to vary the RPM of a fan as big as 200mm. Its probably designed to run at its max while still being quiet, which honestly should move more air than you would ever need.
    I think you should have commented about the front glass panel completely choking off the airflow, eliminating the entire point of the 200mm fan. That seems more like a dealbreaker.

    This was my first case that I've ever built in. Loved it to a point but it can get a bit cramped. I ultimately changed to a more standard case as I wanted to see all my hardware, but I didn't have any of the same issues as the video. Temps were great (replaced the front fan with a cooler master one, added a exhaust fan, and used an aio). Cable management was actually really easy and used hdd. Only same issue was that the gpu does sit close to the side.

    It would be interesting to see squirrel-cage type fans implemented someway into case design. maybe have it blowing int directed tubes you could adjust. We've all seen those blowers in different places, and they move an enormous amount of air, and the ones they sell for home use are very quiet.

    Try the KoLink Citadel/Musetek Mesh/1st Player DK D3 (all 3 appear to be the same.
    They're actually decent value for the money.
    I have the DK D3-A with the 200mm fan upfront and it also has a 140mm at the back.
    It even has the option to vertically mount a GPU (although the rear fan has to be changed out for a 120mm for that to work).

    When you showed the first picture of this one I was intrigued. But then.
    It's too large and with its horizontal orientation would take up too much room on my desk.
    But then.
    That front 200 mm fan looks ok-ish except for being 2/3rds blocked by the glass. Whole front would be better I think if it were all mesh.
    But then.
    Room for a reasonable size GPU which won't be getting very much fresh air.
    Kind of a cool idea that is let down by how they built it.
    Late 2019 I built a SFF pc(3700x cpu, a 2070 mini gpu, 32 gis of ram, and 6 Tb of storage) in a 7 liter sized case--toaster size basically--and it's has been pretty good for temps. Better than this build, in fact. But, it is a bit noisy so I have been considering moving to a new and slightly larger case so I can get another fan or two so I can run them slower and quieter.
    This is not the case for me.
    Thanks for sharing this build and your take on this case!

    The 2nd button was a just in case button. They had planned to use it but during cost analysis and or no longer viable / needed feature, removed the function of that button. Other wise, trust me, that buttom wouldn't have been there as it's an un-needed additional cost.

    That top bracket/strut should be way thicker if it's being used both for stability and mounting rads/fans.
    Would that thing even fit another 200mm fan that could be rpm controlled?
    If the diameter was a bit more it might've been cool, to bring the GPU away from the sides or even if the tray was 90 degrees at the "back" so the GPU ends up pointing it fans toward the top for exhaust.

  • @MooreDenis

    Surely you can get controlled 200mm fan for better Load control speeds. Too mounted Radiator with AIO pull configuration cooling would help too, for CPU cooling. Few modifications to GPU side of the case can help reduce the heat on MoBo. And lastly like some one mentioned rear exhaust fan may help, I don’t quite know where exactly that exhaust fan can be placed back there. But it was promising a single tube which filters air through, looked
    Promising.

    I've actually seen this case before and I thought it looked pretty cool. I agree that it's disappointing the fan in the picture looks cooler than what you actually get. Maybe the temps might have been better if you'd been able to use an AIO instead of the air cooler? It seems weird that there wasn't an exhaust fan on the back to help pull the air through. I think if they went back to the drawing board and maybe added a little stronger materials to the case construction and a lighter tinted side panel with ventilation holes as well as a dust filter on the bottom, then it could be a fun case for those that don't want a tower.

    I think you (surely not on purpose!) didn't consider a few important things while building in this case:
    - A round outer shape is harder to stabilize from the inside than a cube - one would need a lot more little structural beams to keep it solid without the "shell". That's why it feels "flimsy" when half of the parts are taken off while building in it.
    - Your style of wire management in the front (behind the 200mm-fan) already leads to reduced airflow towards the motherboard. Routing them along the shroud of the fan would drop temps inside the case a few degrees.
    - Managing the cables alongside the GPU limits airflow in the bottom area of the GPU. If you rout them straight to the bottom of the case, you get better GPU temps.
    - Warm air rises. Still you installed a blow-down-style CPU cooler. Front-to-back-oriented airflow would be a LOT better, adding to the turbine.
    - No additional fans on the top side means no support to exhaust warm air upwards. Those fans would create negative pressure, which would also help GPU temps a lot.
    - I see why you didn't put a fan in the back, as it didn't come with the case. Still, this case looks like it is supposed to use all the turbine-style-flow it can produce.
    => Blow-down CPU cooler plus no fans around it completely kills the turbine flow.
    Absolutely agreed: an all-mesh-front would add A TON to the airflow of the case!
    I really like your RUclips channel, but hat's a very weird review from you.
    Although the outcome wasn't very surprising after all the negativity you showed already in the beginning. :/

    The shape doesn't seem like a bad idea at all, but the execution... Have a full-mesh front-panel, fully-perforated top/side-panel (?), a good 200m fan (or no fan included with a lower price) and a superior build-quality and it might end up in a pretty nice case.
