I think all the RUclips debt confessions are so refreshing - it’s about time we start talking about our struggles rather than just the glossy bits of life!
Thank you Ellen! It's going to be very real over here... As mush as I love watching the perfect, polished people sometimes, it just breeds jealousy (for me anyway). I definitely plan on showing the not-so-glamourous reality as often as I can! Thanks for watching!!
I agree Ellen. It reminds me that I’m not the only one that has made choices in “moments of weakness” or bad financial choices and am not struggling alone. And to see others working on it also is motivation.
When I look at my budget, I like to think of things that give me hope. When you pay off all the gym's debt, the profit will go up almost 3,000 dollars because you won't be paying on debt... that's so awesome! Definitely something to look forward to x subscribed and excited to keep cheering you guys on!
I just started my journey out of debt, into wealth in June 2020! Began at $82,145 consumer debt, Currently at almost $76k today. Putting it out there on the channel has definitely helped staying focus and having a sense of accountability! keep it up, you got this!
My husband and I are trying to work on paying off debt while starting a new business. I appreciate your honesty and sharing your experience with us all. I think your renovations look wonderful and his gym looks great! Also..my August planner stickers from your etsy shop are AMAZING!! I'm so happy with them! And I'm so glad to see you're back and the shop is open again 😊
Welcome back! I’m so happy to see your budgeting videos again. I can’t wait to watch your progress on your debt-free journey. I know you can crush it. All of your projects turned out really nice. I love your kits as well.
I currently have $144,000 in student loan debt. After COVID I lost my two steady incomes. I understand how you feel sharing your journey on youtube. Thanks for being vulnerable.
Thank you Josh! This year has definitely been a struggle but we'll look back in a few years and see it as just a speed bump 😊 I hope you're doing well and are able to get back to work soon!!!
I truly appreciate your honestly! Not all people get debt free and stay that way. It just goes to show that you should never give up even if you find yourself in the same boat you thought you sent down the river. I’m back down to around 23k even though I was already there 3 years ago. Wracked up more debt for various reasons but managed to payoff 60k since January. It can be done! I wish you guys the best of luck!
Don't feel bad, we're all trying to make ends meet. With everything going on right now. We had paid a couple of our credit cards and with this Coronavirus we had to start using them again. 🤦♀️ But it's okay. It will all be fine.
It’s been such a challenging time for so many people these last few months 😞 you’ll bounce back in no time though, you’ve done it before and you can do it again!
@Maria My advice is this "Live a debt free life and be a free woman, then you can always tell anyone what you really think and you don't have to lie to anybody and to yourself".I was sinking in huge debt few months ago , until a friend referred me to the financial assistance and debt repayment expertise from 'Freedom Debt Relief LLC (@freedomrelief on Instagram)Guess what? i have been able to payoff $34,080 so far from $78,907 of the total debt including two credit cards and auto loans.
We have been paying off debt for a really long time and until this last year we haven't seemed to make any headway on the debt. Now we seem to have a real handle on it, but it's literally been almost 20 years that we've been trying to pay off our debt, but we never seemed able to do it. It's hard to be vulnerable, so I'm proud of you (for what it's worth!). And I know you guys can do it because we are doing it over here!
It definitely takes time to build up momentum! I have a real problem with losing self control and starting to spend more right when we start to make progress, because I get tired of the hard work 😣 BUT gotta keep trying! 😊Thanks for the encouragement!!!
@@CaffeinatedCait That's exactly what we kept doing... and honestly, if it hadn't been for the travel restrictions placed on us now because of the virus, we would probably have planned a trip and then talked ourselves into charging a credit card for the trip with the intention to "pay it off immediately", but that never quite happens!
Hey Cait, just found you. You are brave for sharing. I wish you lots of luck and the grit to push through it. My husband and I paid off over 75k in various consumer debts. We still have student loans to go. For us, stopping the bleeding and not using credit any more was the biggest step towards success. You can do it! Hope the gym is able to operate now and business is booming. 🌈
wow i cant believe you guys have done so much diy on your own house. i wish my husband and i were that handy! we dabble but nothing like your pictures. im happy youre back and excited to be on this journey w you!
Thank you!! It was definitely like jumping into the deep end of the pool. We were completely overwhelmed and knew very little at the beginning, but we learned a LOT out of necessity (RUclips University 👩🎓 lol) an of course we wouldn't have been able to do it without help.
You are so brave to share this. It truly isn't the easy to be so open and honest about your finances, especially when they are in the negative. BUT I think you guys are on the right track and moving in the right direction. Just keep on slamming that debt, and somewhere the light will be seen at the end. Good luck, I am routing for you guys. Subscribed!
Thank you so much! It's scary but I've always wanted this channel to be as transparent as possible. I can't wait for the day when I get to share huge POSITIVE numbers with you! 😉
The gym is gorgeous!! I hope you guys can keep it :) Thank you for inserting the photos of the renovations. I hate thieves :/ Taking someone's money & not completing the work is just wrong. Slow & steady will win this race. I had to buy a new computer this summer & that was totally unexpected, but I was able to pay it off.
Thank you! Every time I feel down about the debt I stop by the gym because it always gives me a boost to see it! I forgot to include before photos of the space... it was dirty and didn't have bathrooms or lighting anything. Such a transformation!
Thank you for sharing for what it’s worth my student loans are more than your household debt. It’s depressing ugh. As long as we pull through it will get done. I’m thinking of getting my real estate license as a side hustle once I move though.
Real estate is a GREAT field to get into... I wish I had the personality for it, but networking isn't exactly my thing lol. I wish you the best of luck!!
Wow. While my jaw did drop, I'm actually not judging. These numbers don't even include utilities at home or the gym, nor food or household necessities like tp and cleaning items. The reason I'm not judging is that the majority of these bills didn't just show up after the pandemic happened, they were there before it happened. I do question the decision to add on to this crushing debt in the middle of the pandemic, making it even harder than before. Your husband took a chance on his dreams. Being loaded with crippling debt now is better than being on his death bed regretting that he lived a "safe" life, never knowing if he could have succeeded with his gym. I wish you both well and hope that "sunny days" are truly ahead for you both.
The SBA loan was a result of the pandemic, not in spite of it. Not all of his expenses could be paused/deferred and his income has almost entirely disappeared with being shut down. We're in New York and gyms are STILL not allowed to open, even with precautions/restrictions. Our governor has given basically no indication of opening them any time soon 🙁 He (my husband) can do some things over Zoom, but overall that hasn't been a suitable replacement for in-person business. The SBA Loan is an option offered as an alternative to the PPP loan program (which we didn't qualify for for various reasons) and part of the loan SHOULD qualify for loan forgiveness (rent, utilities) but I'm not holding my breath for promises the government makes. Payments on this loan don't start until next spring and it has a very low interest rate (Thank God) so we did use a portion to pay off two smaller, higher-interest rate debts. Now that I've written all of that, I realize you probably meant the debt we accrued on the house projects... I honestly have no regrets doing that because having our kitchen more "done" with more storage brings an enormous amount of peace and order to our home, and many other projects would NEVER have gotten done while we are still both working full time. I'm expecting to have all of the HD card paid off in November, so hold me to that!! 😉
Thank you for sharing and being honest. I will say your business debt is giving me anxiety! I am wondering if you were charging gym memberships while being closed for Covid?
You and me both 😅 no, he stopped charging his regular memberships but he had a few people sign up for access to Zoom classes and has done training in parks and stuff but he was basically out of work for a while
I work for the business sector for a bank. I pray your husbands gym will be reopened soon. I have hear so many stories of small business’ having to close because of Covid
Maybe you can help me understand when I started following you about a year ago you were transparent with all your debts. You did not feel the need to hid balances. What has changed that please? Are your business debts going to be in your debt snowball?
Nothing has changed, I'm as transparent with our household debts as I've always been and will continue to be. I respect my husband's right to privacy and I don't believe it's necessary to share every last detail about his business, since my channel is primarily about household finances. Yes, he is personally liable for the debt and it's technically personal debt. We recognize that. But we manage our businesses separately from our household, not only for bookkeeping/tax purposes, but to keep things organized. For that reason, I treat them as two separate debt snowballs. Our "household" debts will be updated monthly on my budget reviews, and I will periodically update our full list of debts as I do here to provide some insight on our bigger picture. That may be quarterly or every 6 months, I haven't decided yet. New York State had gyms close their doors for 5 months and things are VERY slow now that he's allowed to be open, so there won't be significant progress on his business debt for quite some time.
