I have and am learning so much from you. I love your new ideas, your excitement about teaching and learning new things. I really want to start taking notes because I’m learning so many things from you. I am going into my 25th year of teaching and I have nothing but praise for everything you are doing!
I hope you enjoy the small groups, the management clips, real & honest moments, heart to hearts....I am so grateful for the feedback y'all give back to me week after week. Seriously - thank you for spending time with me and letting me know what stands out to you! 💛
I treasure, treasure, TREASURE these videos. I teach third, but I'm dealing with some severe learning gaps with my students. Your content is valid to me as I work hard to catch my students up. I love that you are so transparent and gift us with real-life, in the moment teaching inspiration. Thank you!
It amazes me that you do all of this and have time to somehow film and edit an hour and a half of footage every week. I am student teaching in 3rd grade right now but I love to get a kinder perspective. I really don’t want to teach kids that small but you are amazing at it! Keep doing what you do!
Keep smiling, you’re doing a great job. I am testing my preschoolers this week and I am pleasantly surprised by how much they have grown especially with all of the quarantining. Have a great rest of your week.
You know it is a good video when you have to take notes. 😄 I did Behavior Therapy throughout my undergrad and it became very useful in my classroom. I had a sassy girl in one of my classes and she created so much drama too. After Observing her, I realized that she was wanting adult attention, even if it was negative. I made an effort to notice when she was playing nicely and praised her for being such a good friend. Her behavior changed slowly and the drama soon ended... Moral of this longwinded story: observe this friend, review the functions of behavior, figure out WHY she creates drama and go from there.
This is a very useful tip! I actually have started giving her more "quality" time AKA I'll do her hair in the mornings and chat or try to find other times during the day but I haven't seen any change in behavior. I just hope the changes are happening unseen and whatever she is going through on the inside doesn't keep her spirit down. Because her behavior isn't coming from a place of security or love 😭
@@MrsCallsCampers It is so hard when they may have security issues that are out of your control. All I can say is that you are an amazing teacher and are creating a safe and secure environment for her at school. She will probably continue to make the same decisions for a while. My friend didn't fully change her behavior until close to the end of the school year. Keep doing what you are doing. If you are CERTAIN the behavior function is attention, keep it up. Attention behaviors are the hardest to correct and take a lot of patience and replacement of positive attention.
Oh my goodness…. I can’t believe another teacher would tell you how to run your classroom. Especially to tell you that it’s not right to ask them sit on their bottoms. Wow! Thanks again for you share. I love everything about you!!! I am a few weeks behind on watching, but look forward to watching your videos next week on spring break!! Your students are sweet…. The hugs… I have been looking at your earrings all day!!!!! So sweet!!!
Everything you’re doing is amazing. I’ve been teaching for 8 years and learned new strategies from you that I might give a try with my class. I’m always looking for new ideas to implement especially in reading.
I’m a parent and I so appreciate how you’re willing to guide the parents on how to help their child at home. Most parents are understanding and willing….
You are a fantastic teacher! I learn so much from watching your vlogs and I’ve been teaching for 12 years. Thank you for sharing parts of your career with us
I just want to leave a comment to let you know how much I appreciate you and your vlogs. I have an hour and 15 minute commute to work and I usually always download one of your vlogs to listen to. They are so motivating and your inspire me to do my best each and every day, no matter what mood I am when i wake up. I’ve been teaching for 17 years and am always wanting to learn new things for my classroom. For the past 2 years I’m teaching a P-5 combo class with 9 students! For my littles I implemented your “Writing Superstars” in my room this year and they LOVE it 🥰 Please never stop vlogging! I look forward to each weeks video! Also, I’d love to know if you have an old vlog teaching informational writing, we just started that unit and I’d love to see how you taught it. Always stay your amazing self, Jen ❤️
YOU ARE AMAZING!!! I love all your ideas! I've been teaching for 14 years and I'm still learning to perfect my craft. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
You.are.an.amazing.teacher. You need to be presenting to large groups of teachers showing them what you do.It would be so nice to be able to concentrate only on ELA and Math - in Canada we have to plan for everything in a day: ELA, math, science, social, health, arts.ed (dance, drama, music, visual art) and phys.ed unless it is our prep. You do so many wonderful things and you could be so helpful to other teachers if you could share what you do on a large scale. So impressed!
That is a HUGE compliment thank you! Also I don't show a lot of social studies/science because I teach a combo this year and I have to focus on ela/math but I do teach them! 🥰 and in a typical year I do a LOT more with it!
@@MrsCallsCampers it’s hard to fit it all in isn’t it? I teach a combo class as well but not your traditional combo, it’s K-5 (yes, all 6 grade levels in one room).
Hello! I've commented before, but wanted to say again.. This is my 18th year teaching and I'm an 8th grade teacher. I really enjoy your videos. While the content I'm teaching may be very different, I still find value in what you share. So here is an example: when you talk about your kids *misbehaving* and then remind yourself that they're only 5 and 6 and 7, it reminds me that even though my students are in 8th grade and think they're grown, I have to remember that they are *only* 13 and 14. They're just barely teenagers and figuring out who they are and I need to be aware of how that manifests in their behavior. So, all that to say, thank you for all you share and for helping me keep perspective.
👏🏼BRAVO👏🏼I don’t know how you do it all (teaching and awesome, helpful RUclips videos)! You are amazing thank you so much for all the hours you pour into sharing with us ❤️
thank you again for all the work you put into your vlogs they’re so helpful! yes, a vlog explaining how you intro your call and responses would be GREAT!!
I love your videos. I learn a lot. You inspire me, I’m french teacher. I take some idea for my classroom and students. So thank you so much for all you share. I would like to see and know everything 😆 I probably miss some informations when I watch your videos, so I like when you explain et show us your practice in class. How do you organize your resources ? Do you print the worksheets for your students each year or do you keep the originals somewhere to photocopy them ? Do you redo your anchor chart every year? Where do you store them throughout the year ? Do you have a year-round program of the books you work on each week ? Sorry it’s a lot of questions 😅 and I still have a lot 🙈 Thank you for all!
I can totally relate to your story about girl dramas in class! My first 2 years of teaching were full of that and it honestly was draining especially when you know that there are a couple of your students who seem to be the catalysts of it a lot of the time. I still struggle with sorting it out even after many conversations and problem-solving conversations with them. Honestly, I still don't have the solution but just know you are not alone in feeling that way.. It can be a struggle, sending you positive vibes all the way from New Zealand xx
In student teaching we had so much girl drama. My teacher said she has never seen it so bad before. Likely the year + of not having the same social interaction they should have. There was a lot of behavior issues the grade level noticed and attributed to Covid. Will be reading the comments Bc our convos only worked so far.
Have you ever read the Joy Berry books? They address a different character trait in each book and they are awesome! I would read one of those if an issue comes up in the class or even as a preventative.
Great video. Quick question regarding word families/cvc words. Do you introduce one word family at a time or mix all word families with same vowel? We have always done one word family per week, but I am not liking how it has gone. Just trying to get some new ideas.
I have a couple of girls that act like what you described and I’m totally lost. I keep having talks similar to you, but it’s never ending drama! Idk what to do anymore and it’s getting super frustrating
I need your people drawing lesson for myself! 😂 I only know how to draw stick figures and I really would like to learn to do something a little better than that. Plus it would be awesome to be able to teach my students. I can’t remember if you already had a video where you shared how you teach them step-by-step. If not, I definitely would love to see that in one of your videos! 😉
What is the title on TPT of the cards for “What’s the letter?” ABC cards you used in your K Small groups? I watched your #15 vlog episode but no mention or link was given? Thanks for your help🤓
I really love the small group template you created. I went to your tpt to purchase it but only noticed it in a bundle. Do you sell it anywhere on its own? Thanks! Also LOVE all your videos so many great ideas and so inspiring 😭☺️
Hey Mayleen. I was just curious about the kids writing in pen. Do you choose for them to use pen to write in order to avoid them erasing all the time? Thanks Jen
Hello Fromm Germany 🤗 I'd Look into your Amazon-List but could not find the "stamp Roller" to 'draw' lines for writing on a paper. Can you tell me the name of this product?
I started doing this last year and didn't keep any. I wish this year I had laminated before writing on them. I dont think I'll keep them since they're written on.
Hello there. When you're working with the small group, what was the rest of the class doing? Can you give the lyrics of the song you were singing about the letter the punctuation marks? . I'm at the half of the video! Thank you
I think my next vlog I talk more about math. I don't share as much math because we move so quickly through concepts and the strategies I teach each week change so much vs reading it's pretty consistent!
Mayleen do you pitch the student voices for privacy or do they just sound that cute naturally 😂 Thanks always for your amazing vlogs, I've been teaching middle to upper elementary for the past few years and have been a little unsure of going lower but your vlogs really make me want to try kinder someday 😄
Haha I change their voices for privacy but they're even cuter unedited 😂😂😂 sometimes they sound super deep in my vlogs and it makes me laugh because they're 6 lol. Thank you for watching! 💛💛💛
I think I talked about it in this video - my planning is chunked into two 20 minute sections - both during my students' recess. Our specials teachers are not certified teachers here which is why I was told we are supposed to stay in with them during specials. At previous schools I had specials every day and that was my planning. The schools I'm at right now, we don't have a special every day!
You've just wasted time talking about these Judgemental people who just criticize you for criticising! I wouldn't even mention them. Can you please give me advice or trick to asking my kids to stay quiet while I'm explaining! Good luck, like your videos and we share the same enthusiasm for teaching little ones.
I just wanted to mention it in case other creators or teachers sharing their life needed the reminder! I know what you mean though. It's not worth the energy!!

It sounds like you’re implementing Kagan style grouping. In a group of 4, you generally want 1 high, 2 middles, 1 low. They help each other succeed.
Not in skills based small groups but I haven't heard the term Kagan since college! Forgot it was a thing!!!! It's been nice to switch it up.
