I think the birthday scene is REALLY sad. Prince John is so heartless that he would not only steal the only gold coin the family saves, he steals a child’s birthday present.
Its not even a gold coin. Its a copper or bronze Farthing. Smallest denomination there was. Tells us all about how cruel the collector is to take everything
0:30 - "It's the sheriff! Hurry! Hide it, quick!" That could also work for hiding a certain other type of stash. Given when the film came out, it stands to reason.
When I was a kid I cried when he robbed the little boy. And when Robinhood restored the boys happiness by returning his money he instantly and permanently became my favorite hero
Cheery to fault while they bleed you dry, put the onus on you to save every little bit, take your anger as a personal attack, always deflect with "I'm just doing my job," willing to literally harm the injured that much more because they're easy... Who does that sound like today?
I love that Friar Tuck and the Sheriff have developed their own relationship through the years. Friar Tuck isn't affraid of the Sheriff at all and he either doesn't need to intimidate him. He just trolls when he taxes him and don't want to scare him to make sure he has the tax money ready when he arrives to collect them. It so funny when the sheriff figure out where friar have hidden the money this time. 😄
We can’t cancel villains that serve to a brilliant story. It’s like cancelling the Wicked Witch from The Wizard of Oz or the Wet Bandits from Home Alone.
I wish we had more simple villains like this in cartoons or live action shows alike. More bad guys who aren't evil cos they KNOWINGLY are evil. Or evil because thet have some bitter backstory to their evil. Just a regular friendly guy, with a regular dirty job, serving the other top bad guy, who is content and amused with his boring evil job. That is ironically something we see far more often in everyday life, people who really don't think they are bad, but just a regular shmoe doing bad things for a paycheck and ignoring how cruel it can be. It shows a bizarrely human aspect to the sheriff. Plus its just hilarious.
This is one of my favorite scenes from Disney's "Robin Hood" and I still have this movie on VHS too! I remember I first got this movie on VHS for Christmas back in 1998, and I was only seven years old at the time! The VHS copy of this movie that I also have was released in the Walt Disney Masterpiece Collection lineup since I own a lot of Disney films on VHS as part of the Walt Disney Masterpiece Collection that way. Even though the Sheriff of Nottingham is also a villain and all in this movie, he's also one of my favorite characters in this movie along with Prince John, Sir Hiss, Little John, Friar Tuck, and Robin Hood himself. It actually would have nice though probably if the Sheriff would have reformed after the events of this movie along with Sir Hiss too since I would really love to see those two villains reformed or redeemed rather.
Nah He stole from a greedy tyrant who temporarily pulled off a coup on his noble yet absent brother At least thats the child friendly version In reality all the Plantagenets were greedy, violent bastards
He's got a point later in the movie - he's just following orders. Also later when he takes the farthing from Skippy I always found that funny especially how his hand reaches out.
The hilarity of this entire scene is, after all these years it suddenly hit me that the Sheriff's voice actor was Mr. Haney from Green Acres, and both characters were always after money!
As a kid I think I understood the phrase read the room. 2:04 that kinda stuck with me as a kid even now i can't help but give poor people something anything damn...
You get why the citizens appreciate Robin lifting their spirits during this difficult times and how they aren't sure how to repay him back for it. This is why they root for him and Marian.
Don't know why the sheriff of Nottingham in this movie was given a Southern drawl when this movie takes place in mediaeval England's and seeing as Nottingham is in Northern England he should really speak with a Northern English accent
The real reason: the film was meant to be a more whimsical take on Robin Hood set in the Old American Wild West. But that idea was scrapped and returned back to original medieval England. They just enjoyed the character voices so much most were left with a cowboy or American voice cos the world already was silly to begin with.
I wish we never have to pay taxes anymore I wouldn't mind if humanity's future would be like that star trek movie quote i watched recently "no money in the future and oit economy works by helping each other" Or something along those lines But wouldn't it be nice
What you described there is literally a Communist society... No currency, all means of production held in common, universal brotherhood etc etc... Thing is it's the end result of a process called Socialism. Which has been tried a good few times... somehow they keep getting the recipe wrong.
And that's the American dream for some people in government thinking raising taxes makes it better but if they really want to help have the rich if you make certain amount have to pay taxes and the people under that don't have to yeah let's screw over the young person and say we're really just taxing the rich more but yet taxing everyone more
I'm sure the IRS uses this clip somewhere in their orientation or training.
Chris W underrated comment
It gave Biden and Harris ideas that's for sure.

He acts cheerful and polite while he’s relishing in being a dick, that is very unlikable!
You're so right!Me rewatching this wanna say:"You,jerk sadist!"
He's such a douche but at the same time an absolute troll lol. He's the villain you love to hate which makes him well written.
No..I connect More with him... people should pay their taxes er get out! Go to the forest and be with the dwarves and save Tax money

Disney’s Robin Hood is underrated. Film is just so entertaining
I concur. By absolutely cartoon favorite
My Favourite Robin Hood's
1) The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938)
2) Disney's Robin Hood
3) Men in Tights

He also voiced Chief from The Fox & The Hound as well as Luke from The Rescuers.
I love his cracked southern accent.
I love the walking cycle of the Sheriff & I love how he says, “ do do…” it cracks me up! 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Do you know that walk cycle got reused in Bonkers, in a scene where "The Collector" is revealed to be nothing more than a human disguised as a toon?
0:24
I've always loved his "swag walk."
It's great, the whole background just changes for him.
When I was a kid I cried when he robbed the little boy. And when Robinhood restored the boys happiness by returning his money he instantly and permanently became my favorite hero
Love how his voice goes off key singing the last part of Happy Birthday 😂
That almost reminds me of Shere Khan from The Jungle Book when he sang the last part of "That's What Friends Are For (The Vulture Song)" as well.
Dear god. I bet this sheriff collects taxes more often than a farmer collects eggs from chickens.
"and the taxes is due, a doo dee doo doo doooooo"
The same walk cycle for Sheriff throughout the whole film, but who cares, I LOVE IT!!! 😂
In today's age....I feel the same emotions as the rabbit family: Sad, discouraged and frustrated.
Sherrif is the same voice for Chief the hunting dog in Fox and the Hound.
"they call me a slob, but I do my job..." - sounds just like US citizen and their representatives in Washington.
Sloth actually.

I can't get past the fact this guy sounds like my uncle
The ol' Sheriffe loves collecting taxes
So Robin Hood stole from the government and gave back to the people!
Well, most Governments are corrupt anyway, so the message still holds up to this day.
That makes more sense than 'Stealing from the rich'

this movie made me very uncomfortable as a child and now i fully understand why 20 years later
Ever time he collects taxes he deals 1 damage.

Sheriff's still more loveable and comedic than Captain Shrote from The Darkness.
this later led to the development of a document called the Magna Carta (Which limits the power of the monarchy)
